What changes between Classic and Modern difficulty?
The confirmed difference is about saving during Grace’s sections: on Standard Classic, an Ink Ribbon is required for each save. Capcom describes this as adding resource management and requiring players to think about when to save. The official description reviewed does not provide a corresponding explanation of Standard Modern, nor does it establish how the two standards compare in combat tuning.

That means “Classic” is a useful choice if you specifically want the documented Ink Ribbon save constraint. It does not, on the available official information, prove that every other part of Classic is harder than Modern or explain what Modern changes.
All reported Resident Evil Requiem difficulty settings
Capcom describes the game as offering multiple difficulty settings for newcomers through experienced players, but its official material reviewed does not enumerate every setting or provide complete descriptions. A secondary Resident Evil Wiki listing reports four names:

Capcom’s corporate release confirms the broad availability of multiple difficulty settings, not a complete mode list or the mechanics of each one: Capcom’s March 4, 2026 release. The four-name list comes from the Resident Evil Wiki, which is secondary reporting rather than an authoritative specification.
Which setting should you choose?
Choose Casual for assistance and a gentler survival loop
Casual is the clearest option if you are new to the series, want to focus on the story, or would welcome help landing shots. Those are recommendations based on preference; the documented features are aim assistance, increased player health and reduced enemy resistance. Capcom France’s showcase announcement provides those specific details.

Choose Standard Classic if save planning appeals to you
Pick Standard Classic if you like weighing when to save and managing a limited in-game resource. The verified Ink Ribbon rule applies to Grace’s sections; do not assume from that description alone that it also applies to Leon’s sections.
Do not choose between Modern and Classic based on unverified combat claims
If you are deciding specifically between Standard Modern and Standard Classic, the official information cited here settles the save rule for Classic but not the full gameplay differences. Check the current in-game mode descriptions or official manual for your version before choosing based on enemy damage, health, autosaves or other combat behavior.

Switching difficulty and Insanity unlocks
The official descriptions cited here do not establish whether difficulty can be changed after starting a run, or how and when Insanity becomes available. Those rules should be checked in the current game or its official manual rather than assumed from a mode list. Difficulty details may also change with patches.
Game and platform context
Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom’s ninth mainline Resident Evil installment, launched on February 27, 2026. Capcom lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC among its platforms in its March 4, 2026 announcement. Capcom’s PC platform FAQ says basic game content is the same across platforms apart from some hardware- or controller-specific differences, and that saves cannot be shared or transferred between platforms.
