What the anniversary marks
The original Resident Evil was released on March 22, 1996, making March 22, 2026 the series’ 30th anniversary. Capcom marked the date on its anniversary site. In a message dated March 22, executive producer Jun Takeuchi thanked fans who had supported the series since the first game’s release.
The franchise remains a major part of Capcom’s business: the company said on March 16, 2026 that cumulative Resident Evil sales exceeded 183 million units as of December 31, 2025. The same release said Resident Evil Requiem had sold more than 6 million units worldwide. These are Capcom’s reported figures, not estimates of the Pasela event’s reach.
