Sashi Esport announced an Asian VRS push on October 5, 2026, adding Australian players Tynan “TjP” Purtell and Jordan “Hatz” Bajic while saying two starters would step aside for a month. Critics saw the timing as a temporary attempt to improve the Danish team’s route to the PGL Singapore Major. The next day, HLTV reported that Valve had added a three-month regional-list restriction that could prevent the switch from helping with Major invites.
What Sashi announced
On October 5, Sashi Esport announced TjP and Hatz as additions to its active Counter-Strike roster. The organization said it was targeting the Asian VRS, the regional ranking system relevant to Major invitations. It also said Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen and Casper “Cabbi” Jensen would step out of the starting lineup “for the coming month.” Sashi’s announcement, reproduced by Insider Gaming, said: “We’re taking a different route this time as we set our sights on the Asian VRS. Let’s see how far we can take it.”
Contemporary coverage noted that Anton “Anlelele” Huynh had Vietnamese citizenship, which was relevant to the roster’s regional assignment. The stated Asian VRS goal and the one-month lineup change led many observers to interpret the move as a short-term qualification play, rather than a lasting commitment to competing in Asia. That interpretation describes the criticism; Sashi did not publicly state that its purpose was to exploit an easier route.
Why the region change drew criticism
The objection centered on competitive integrity and regional representation. Critics questioned whether a European team should be able to shift its represented region near the Major invitation cycle in pursuit of what they perceived as a less difficult qualification path. The reporting establishes that the move provoked that criticism, not that Sashi broke the rules in effect when it announced the change.

The reaction included prominent players. Insider Gaming reported that Nikola “NiKo” Kovač posted on October 5: “It’s not too late to do something about this @CounterStrike.” His comment reflected the call for intervention as the controversy unfolded.
Sashi’s explanation
In an interview with Dust2.dk, Sashi owner and director Claus “D0KT0R3N” Nielsen said the idea of changing regions arose only days before the announcement. Nielsen said he had only recently fully understood the relevance of Anlelele’s Vietnamese passport, after the team had previously encountered that information in connection with Esports Nations Cup qualification. This is Nielsen’s account of the timing and reasoning.

Did Valve stop the switch from helping Sashi qualify?
According to HLTV’s October 6 report, Valve amended the CS Major Supplemental Rulebook with this condition: “A roster is only eligible for a Regional Assignment if they did not appear in any other region’s VRS list in the preceding three calendar months.” HLTV reported that Valve clarified the amendment applied to Singapore Major invites, with the lookback measured before invites are issued—not before the Major begins.
HLTV also reported that teams that had recently switched regions would be out of the Major run through those changes unless they reached a solution with Valve. As of October 7, 2026, that reporting means Sashi’s switch could not by itself secure a Singapore Major Regional Assignment if the roster fell within the three-month lookback. The cited account does not establish a team-specific resolution for Sashi.

Major invites versus other events
The reported amendment concerns eligibility for a Major Regional Assignment. HLTV distinguished that from eligibility for invitations to events outside the Major circuit, so the rule should not be read as a blanket ban on competing in or receiving invites to every event in another region.
| Question | Before the amendment, as reported | After the amendment, as reported by HLTV |
|---|---|---|
| Recent appearance on another region’s VRS list | The three-calendar-month condition was not part of the rule text HLTV reported as newly added on October 6. | A roster is eligible for a Regional Assignment only if it did not appear on another region’s VRS list in the preceding three calendar months. |
| What the restriction covers | Not established here as a general rule for every event. | HLTV reported that Valve applied the amendment to Singapore Major invites; non-Major event invites are distinct. |
| Team-specific exception or solution | Not stated in the reported amendment. | HLTV said recent switchers would be out of the Major run unless they reached a solution with Valve; it did not report a specific Sashi resolution. |
What the 13.25% figure means
Insider Gaming reported that VRS analyst Finn “Mischief” Farrer estimated Sashi’s chance of reaching the PGL Singapore Major through the Asian VRS at 13.25% on October 5, 2026. That was a contemporaneous forecast, not an official Valve statistic or a final result. It preceded the October 6 amendment and does not represent an updated estimate under the new eligibility condition.
