GameSpot reported that a former Respawn production coordinator described an unnamed incubation project as cancelled, but the project’s identity, setting and connection to Titanfall were not established.
What was the unannounced Respawn game?
GameSpot’s March 6, 2025 report said former Respawn production coordinator Emilee Evans had posted that an unnamed “incubation project” she had worked on for the past year was cancelled that week. The report did not identify a title or confirm the game’s setting. GameSpot said it had contacted EA about the specific project; the available reporting does not establish a later EA or Respawn confirmation naming it. GameSpot’s report

The multiplayer-FPS description was an inference from a Respawn job listing for its incubation team, not confirmation that the cancelled project was that game. The listing suggested an early-stage multiplayer shooter, but the public information did not connect it conclusively to Evans’s post.
Could the cancelled game have been Titanfall 3?
It is possible in the broad sense that the project’s identity was unknown, but the cited reporting does not establish that it was Titanfall 3—or even that it was set in the Titanfall universe. GameSpot specifically noted that it was unclear whether the cancelled incubation project was the separate rumored Titanfall-universe game.

- Advanced, Action-Packed Gameplay – Whether fighting as a Pilot, the dominant force on The Frontier, or as a Titan, 20-foot tall war machines, Titanfall 2 provides an incredibly fun, fluid, and thrilling combat experience that is unmatched.
- Captivating Single Player Campaign – Step on to The Frontier as a Militia rifleman with aspirations of becoming a Pilot. Stranded behind enemy lines, and against overwhelming odds, you must team up with a veteran Vanguard-class Titan and uphold a mission you were never meant to carry out.
- Deeper Multiplayer Action – With six brand-new Titans, a host of deadly new Pilot abilities, an expanded customization system, new modes and much more, Titanfall 2 gives players the deeper Multiplayer experience they have been asking for.
- Play with Friends, or Make New Ones – The social tissue of Titanfall 2, Networks makes it fast and easy to play with friends old and new. Whether Social or Competitive, players will be able to create and join a variety of Networks that best suit their play styles and preferences.
That distinction matters: a job listing that hints at a multiplayer FPS does not identify a franchise, and an unidentified project’s cancellation does not confirm that a rumored sequel was in development.
Was Titanfall 3 cancelled?
There are two different stories that are easy to conflate. In a June 13, 2023 report, PC Gamer recounted former Respawn designer Mohammad Alavi’s account that the studio worked on Titanfall 3 for about ten months, then chose to cancel that work and pivot toward Apex Legends. That was an earlier development decision—not the unidentified project reported cancelled in March 2025. PC Gamer’s 2023 account

- Pilots vs. Titans: Do you take to the war zone on foot or do you leap into the 24-foot tall metallic monstrosity? Pilots can maneuver through the fight with acrobatic grace, but the Titans are absolutely brutal in strength and firepower.
- Multiplayer-exclusive action: Titanfall is being developed from the ground up as an online multiplayer experience but with all the characters, story and memorable moments of single player infused.
- Produced by the Co-creators of Call of Duty: Respawn Entertainment consists of key members of the team that lived and breathed multiplayer first-person shooters for years. Titanfall accumulates that knowledge and experience and builds a brand-new take in a whole new universe.
EA’s November 9, 2017 acquisition announcement described Respawn as the creator of Titanfall and Titanfall 2 and said a new Titanfall-franchise title was among the projects in development at that time. That historical statement does not identify the 2025 incubation project or establish the status of a later sequel. EA’s acquisition announcement

Insider Gaming’s April 4, 2025 coverage discussed rumors of Titanfall 3 while explicitly treating their truth as uncertain and noting it had sought comment from EA. Those rumors do not identify the project in GameSpot’s March report, prove that a new sequel was underway, or show that Titanfall 3 was cancelled in 2025. Insider Gaming’s April 2025 report
