Yes, Revenge of the Savage Planet supports two-player co-op in both local split-screen and online multiplayer. Online play also supports crossplay between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The main limitation is progression: the host’s save controls story advancement, while guests should not expect campaign missions to advance in their own saves.
The standard edition includes every multiplayer mode. You do not need the Cosmic Hoarder Edition for co-op, split-screen, or crossplay.
Quick answer
- Co-op: Yes, for two players total.
- Local co-op: Yes, with shared or split-screen play on one system.
- Online co-op: Yes.
- Crossplay: Yes, between supported PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions.
- PC crossplay: Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG players can use universal online multiplayer.
- Campaign: The full campaign can be played cooperatively.
- Maximum party size: Two players, not four.
The official Xbox listing and the game’s official site identify both online and local/shared-screen multiplayer.
Does Revenge of the Savage Planet have split-screen?
Yes. Revenge of the Savage Planet has local couch co-op using shared or split-screen play. Both players use the same supported installation, so local multiplayer does not require two copies of the game or an internet connection.

Local co-op is limited to two players total. It does not support two people on the couch plus another player joining online.
What you need for local co-op
- One supported copy and installation of the game.
- Two usable controllers or supported input devices.
- A platform version that supports local multiplayer.
The game is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Local/shared-screen support is listed for the Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games Store versions; the Steam listing also identifies local and online co-op.
To join locally, connect the second controller and use the on-screen join prompt after entering play. The exact button varies by platform, controller, localization, and PC input configuration, so there is no single universal “press Start” instruction that applies everywhere.
PC local co-op troubleshooting
If the second player cannot join on PC, connect and confirm the second controller before starting the session. Also check Steam Input or other controller-remapping software. Input conflicts can cause keyboard and controller controls to affect the same character or prevent the second device from being recognized correctly.

Developer updates have included couch-co-op fixes such as independent look-axis settings and corrections to controller and button prompts in online co-op.
How to play online co-op
Online co-op is host-based. A typical session works as follows:
- The host chooses the online co-op option.
- The host selects a save.
- The host invites the other player.
- The guest accepts the invitation from the game or platform flow.
- The guest joins the host’s session.
On current versions, the relevant menu path is generally Play → Cross Platform Online → select a save. Menu wording can vary by platform and localization.
Invitations may appear as a join option in the main menu rather than as a prominent notification. For the most reliable setup, have the guest remain at the main menu while the host creates the session and sends the invitation.

Does Revenge of the Savage Planet support crossplay?
Yes. Crossplay works between supported PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions. The official site describes playing on or between any platform, while the Xbox listing, Steam listing, and Epic Games Store listing identify cross-platform multiplayer.
The supported platform families are:
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, or GOG
Steam’s important multiplayer setting
Steam players now have two networking modes:
- Steam Only Multiplayer: Restricts online play to the Steam ecosystem.
- Universal Multiplayer: Uses the game’s cross-platform online service and is required for crossplay with console players or non-Steam PC versions.
The options were added on December 12, 2025. To enable crossplay, go to Options → Enable Universal Multiplayer. If Enable Steam Only Multiplayer is active, a Steam player may not see or join a friend playing on Xbox, PlayStation, Epic Games Store, or GOG. Switch back to Universal Multiplayer before trying again. The change is documented in the relevant Steam patch notes.
Do both online players need to own the game?
For online co-op on separate systems, both players need access to a compatible copy or subscription entitlement. This is not a one-copy, two-system online co-op game. Steam Family Sharing and platform subscription rules can affect whether a second player can launch the game, so access should not be assumed to transfer to two simultaneous players.
On Xbox consoles, online multiplayer requires an eligible Xbox Game Pass subscription. The Xbox store currently lists Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate for console online multiplayer. Local split-screen does not require Xbox online multiplayer.

How co-op progression works
The host’s save determines the campaign state. This makes choosing a long-term host important if two players want to experience the story together.
| Progress | Host | Guest |
|---|---|---|
| Story missions | Saves | Does not advance the guest’s own story save |
| Boss and story completion | Saves | Generally must be completed again in the guest’s campaign |
| Orange Goo | Saves | Carries over |
| Kindex scans | Saves | Carries over |
| Purchased upgrades | Saves | Player-specific upgrades carry over |
| Habitat and world decorations | Saved in the host’s world | Not transferred to the guest’s own world |
The practical rule is to use one player’s save as the primary campaign. If the guest later plays solo or hosts a separate game, they may retain collectibles, scans, and certain personal upgrades while still needing to replay story content.
Can local and online co-op be combined?
No. The game’s local and online modes are separate two-player options. It does not support a local pair joining an additional remote player, so the maximum remains two players total.

A crossplay friend does not appear
- Check that the Steam player is using Universal Multiplayer, not Steam Only Multiplayer.
- Confirm both players appear online to the relevant platform or game service.
- Update the game on both systems.
- Fully close and relaunch the game, especially if one player resumed a suspended session.
- Try the game’s invitation flow rather than relying only on a platform-friend notification.
The invitation was sent but does not appear
Keep the guest at the main menu while the host creates the session and sends the invitation. Look for a join option in the game’s main-menu flow instead of expecting a large pop-up notification.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAn Xbox player appears offline
The developer previously listed a fix for a bug that prevented players marked as offline from playing. Restart the game and check platform presence settings before concluding that online co-op is unavailable.
Crossplay worked before but stopped
Fully close and relaunch the game on both systems. Then confirm the Steam host has not changed to Steam Only Multiplayer. The developer acknowledged online and crossplay problems after launch and released fixes over time; an outdated or suspended session can retain stale online-service information. Relevant updates are listed on the developer’s update page.
Game Pass PC and Xbox invitations fail
Reports of invitations being created but failing during Epic Online Services authentication do not mean Game Pass crossplay is unsupported. They indicate an account-linking or online-service problem. When contacting support, identify where the game was installed—Microsoft Store, Xbox, Steam, Epic Games Store, or GOG—as requested on the developer’s support page.
Which edition includes multiplayer?
The standard edition includes online co-op, local split-screen, and crossplay. The Cosmic Hoarder Edition adds bonus content, including the HR Enforcer Deluxe Suit, soundtrack, artbook, and other extras, but it does not unlock multiplayer modes.
Verdict
Revenge of the Savage Planet is a two-player co-op game with both couch split-screen and online crossplay. Use one system for local play, or separate systems for online multiplayer. For cross-platform sessions involving a Steam player, select Universal Multiplayer. Most importantly, decide whose save will host the campaign: the host keeps story progress, while the guest’s retained progression is more limited.
