The game previously launched on PC through Steam in November 2025. Steam categorizes it as a single-player action game with roguelike and bullet-hell elements. The console launch therefore brings the same core concept to Nintendo’s systems rather than introducing a new multiplayer mode or a separate story campaign.
What you do in Reverie in the Moonlight
You play as Little Tete, a character who cannot directly fight the monsters that attack night after night. Instead, Tete runs, dodges and survives while a collection of stuffed animals attacks and supports him. Luna teaches Tete how to use the plushies, turning each encounter into a combination of movement, positioning and build management.

Plushies handle the fighting
Nintendo lists 40 plushie types. Their jobs differ: some deliver short-range attacks, others fire from a distance, and others provide support. Because Tete’s own role is evasion, the plushies determine how much space you need, which threats you can safely approach and how quickly a run can recover from pressure.
Each night feeds the next build
After a monster attack, collected gold can be spent on new plushies and special items. Nintendo lists more than 100 items. Some increase strength but also introduce weaknesses, so the strongest-looking purchase is not automatically the safest one. You have to balance damage, survivability and the drawbacks attached to a build before the next attack begins.

Clothing adds a longer-term layer
Completing the story unlocks a clothing-based build layer. Tete can wear more than 20 costumes, and each costume changes strengths and weaknesses. Nintendo’s examples include Moonlight Wizard, which favors long-range plushies; Nap Cloud, which favors stationary plushies; and Doggy Friend, which favors dog plushies. Costumes, plushies and items are intended to be combined rather than selected in isolation.

The practical difference is therefore hardware performance and input, not additional stages, characters or items. Nintendo explicitly says there are no differences in game content between the editions. If you already own a Switch, the standard version still contains the full game; Switch 2 is the choice for the smoother frame rate and mouse-sensor option.

This structure makes movement part of the build. A short-range plushie may demand closer positioning, while a long-range setup can keep Tete farther from danger. Stationary plushies and support effects create different spacing requirements again, so a successful combination depends on the encounter as well as on the item descriptions.
