Yes—with a qualification. EA Sports College Football 25 makes its return feel meaningful through a broad college-football presentation, all 134 FBS teams, and several distinct modes. GameSpot’s launch review praised the experience but singled out Road to Glory as a weakness, so the payoff is real without every part of the game matching the scale of fans’ expectations.
Why College Football 25 mattered
College Football 25 was EA’s return to the series after a long hiatus: the Associated Press described it as EA’s first college-football game since the series stopped in 2013. That gap makes “long-awaited” more than a marketing flourish, but it also raised expectations for a game that had to reintroduce the sport and its traditions to players.
The game launched worldwide on July 19, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is a 2024 annual sports-game release, not a current-year edition. The available evidence here does not establish today’s price, retail stock, online-service status, or how it compares in value with later College Football games.
What the game puts on the field
EA says College Football 25 includes all 134 FBS universities and more than 150 stadiums. That breadth gives the return a distinctly college-football scope rather than presenting it as a narrow selection of teams and venues.

EA framed its CampusIQ feature suite around the sport’s pace and team identities. Announced systems include player Wear & Tear, pre-snap recognition, player composure, homefield advantages, and team-specific play styles. EA design director Scott O’Gallagher also said the game had more than 1,500 new plays and 134 team playbooks. These are EA’s descriptions of the game’s design; they should not be mistaken for independent proof that every system works equally well in play.

Dynasty and Road to Glory are the most prominent career-style options, but they do not land equally well. GameSpot’s review praised play in both while warning that Road to Glory carries some of the single-player career-mode burdens associated with Madden. That is a specific criticism of Road to Glory, not evidence that every mode lacks depth.
What launch reviews say about the payoff
GameSpot’s launch review offers a positive but qualified assessment: it praised College Football 25 while identifying Road to Glory as a notable weakness. That balance is useful for judging whether the game met expectations. Its broad team and venue coverage, college-specific framing, and multiple modes make the return substantial; the career experience is not uniformly strong.

EA reported that 2.2 million unique players took part during Early Access and another 600,000 played through the EA Play trial. Those are publisher-reported launch-period participation figures, not sales, unique purchasers, or a measure of the game’s current player population.

The launch also marked a return for real players’ names and likenesses. EA said its NIL deal enabled thousands of current college football athletes to appear in the game. The Associated Press reported in 2024 that EA offered FBS players a minimum of $600 plus a copy of the game for inclusion, and that more than 10,000 players had accepted at the time of its report. Those figures describe the arrangement and acceptances as reported then.

Is College Football 25 worth buying now?
As a review of the 2024 release, the verdict is that College Football 25 made the wait worthwhile for fans seeking EA’s return to college football. For someone deciding what to buy in 2026, that verdict alone cannot establish whether this edition is the better choice: current prices, availability, online support, and comparisons with later annual releases are not established here.
Platform scope is clear: EA announced PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. The documented launch platforms do not include PS4, Xbox One, or PC, so do not assume those editions exist.
