rjbdll.dll is an old RealNetworks RealOne Player media-library component, not a Windows system file. If Windows says it is missing, the safest fix is to identify the RealPlayer installation requesting it, then repair or remove that obsolete application rather than downloading the DLL separately.
The error may appear as “rjbdll.dll was not found,” “rjbdll.dll is missing or corrupted,” “Cannot find rjbdll.dll,” or “The code execution cannot proceed because rjbdll.dll was not found.” The exact wording depends on the program and Windows version.

Before fixing the error
Do not copy rjbdll.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. It normally belongs in the RealPlayer or RealOne Player program directory beside the other application files.
Do not assume that installing Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or Windows Media Player will restore it. There is no evidence that this file is part of those components. regsvr32 is also not a general DLL repair command and is not normally appropriate for this file.

The most important question is whether RealPlayer is still installed. If the message appears when an old application starts, repair that application. If it appears during Windows startup after RealPlayer was removed, remove the leftover startup reference instead.
Fix 1: Identify the program calling rjbdll.dll
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
The error dialog often names the application that attempted to load the DLL. Note that name before closing the message. It may be RealPlayer, RealOne Player, a media-management utility, or an old startup process.
Check installed applications
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for RealPlayer, RealOne Player, RealTimes, or another RealNetworks entry.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the entry and choose Advanced options, Modify, or Uninstall, depending on what Windows provides.
If no RealNetworks product appears, open Control Panel:
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Look for RealPlayer, RealOne Player, RealTimes, or related media components.
Check the process behind the error
If the error occurs while a program is running:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select the Details tab.
- Look for a process that appeared at the same time as the error.
- Right-click it and select Open file location.
- Check whether the folder belongs to RealNetworks or to an old application that was copied or moved.
You can also inspect Event Viewer:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
eventvwr.mscand press Enter. - Open Windows Logs and select Application.
- Look for an error at the time the DLL message appeared.
- Read the Faulting application name and Faulting module name fields.
If the application path points to a deleted, temporary, or unfamiliar folder, do not download the DLL to satisfy it. Continue to the startup and malware checks below.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall RealPlayer from RealNetworks
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
This is the most likely working fix when RealPlayer is still needed and the installation is damaged or incomplete. RealNetworks’ own repair path uses Control Panel to remove the existing installation before reinstalling it.
Before removing the program, preserve any media files and note that playlists may need to be recreated.
- Close RealPlayer and any related media applications.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select RealPlayer, RealOne Player, or RealTimes.
- Choose Uninstall or Change.
- Follow the installer’s repair or removal prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the currently supported RealPlayer installer only from RealNetworks’ official website.
- Run the installer and allow it to complete.
- Start RealPlayer and test the action that previously produced the error.
If the installer offers a repair option, use it first. If it only offers removal, uninstall the damaged copy, restart, and install the supported release.
How to tell whether this worked
The fix worked if the application opens without the rjbdll.dll message and the media-library feature that previously failed operates normally.
A current RealPlayer release may not contain the same legacy component used by RealOne Player. Therefore, a current installation is not guaranteed to restore compatibility with every ancient program that expects rjbdll.dll. If the original application still requires the old component, keeping that obsolete software installed may create a security risk. In that situation, uninstall the old application and use a maintained media player instead.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus software quarantined the file
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
If RealPlayer worked until a security scan, cleanup operation, or antivirus notification occurred, inspect quarantine history before changing anything.
In Windows Security:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Review detections from the time the error began.
- Open a relevant detection and inspect the file path.
The path matters. A detection inside the original RealPlayer directory is different from a file with the same name in a temporary folder, download directory, or unfamiliar application directory.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not automatically restore the file. An obsolete RealPlayer installation can contain vulnerable components, and a detection may represent either a false positive or a genuinely unsafe file. If the detection is not clearly a false positive, leave it quarantined, remove the old program, and scan the computer.
If you are confident that the file came from the trusted original installation and the detection has been independently assessed as a false positive, Windows Security may provide an Allow on device or restore option. Microsoft warns that restored files may be detected again. Reinstalling the owning application from its official source is safer than restoring a loose DLL.
Fix 4: Remove an orphaned startup entry
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
A common pattern is that RealPlayer was uninstalled, but Windows still tries to launch one of its components at sign-in. In that case, restoring rjbdll.dll only hides the orphaned reference.
Check Task Manager startup entries
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for RealPlayer, RealOne Player, RealTimes, or an entry with a missing publisher.
- Right-click the entry and select Disable.
- Restart Windows.
If the error disappears, the startup entry was the caller. You can remove the associated application through Installed apps or Programs and Features.

Check scheduled tasks
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
taskschd.mscand press Enter. - Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks that launch RealPlayer or point to a folder that no longer exists.
- Open a task’s Actions tab before changing it.
- Disable or delete the task only when you have confirmed that it belongs to the unwanted RealNetworks installation.
Check with Autoruns
Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns can show startup locations that Task Manager does not display. Run it as administrator, search for rjbdll.dll, RealPlayer, and RealOne, and inspect the full command path before disabling an entry.
Do not disable a startup item merely because its name is unfamiliar. If the path is outside the old RealNetworks folder, scan it with Windows Security first.
Fix 5: Reinstall the complete application, not just the DLL
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
If the program was moved to another drive, restored from a backup, or copied from another computer, its folder may be incomplete. RealPlayer components can depend on sibling files, configuration data, codecs, and installer-created settings.
The correct repair is:
- Copy personal media files and playlists to a safe location.
- Uninstall the damaged RealPlayer or RealOne Player entry.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove only the abandoned application folder if the uninstaller left it behind and you have confirmed it contains no personal media.
- Install the supported RealPlayer release from RealNetworks.
- Recreate or import playlists if necessary.
- Test the application again.
A standalone DLL may make the first error disappear while leaving the rest of the installation broken. It can also be the wrong build or architecture.
About 32-bit and 64-bit Windows
Historical file information identifies rjbdll.dll with the older 32-bit RealPlayer generation. A 32-bit application normally loads its private DLLs from its own program directory or through Windows’ compatibility paths. That does not mean the file belongs in the 64-bit Windows system directory.

Do not mix a DLL from another RealPlayer release with the original application. Matching the application installer to the program is more important than matching the Windows architecture alone.
Fix 6: Run Windows repair commands only for wider system problems
Time needed: 20 to 45 minutes
SFC and DISM are designed to repair protected Windows components. rjbdll.dll is a third-party RealNetworks file, so these commands will not normally replace it. Use them when you also see damaged Windows features, repeated system errors, update failures, or other missing system files.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the application again.
A successful SFC result may say that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations or repaired corrupted files. That confirms Windows components were checked, not that RealPlayer was repaired.
If DISM or SFC reports errors, repeat the commands after installing pending Windows updates. If the rjbdll.dll message remains but Windows is otherwise healthy, return to the RealPlayer repair or uninstall path.
When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed becomes time-consuming, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported issues; its free scan shows what it finds, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling RealPlayer remains the definitive fix for this application-owned DLL.

Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
A display, sound, or storage-driver problem can prevent an old media application from behaving correctly, but a driver update will not normally recreate rjbdll.dll.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Check Windows Update first:
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Open Advanced options and then Optional updates if offered.
- Review driver updates and install only those appropriate for your hardware.
- Restart Windows.
To inspect Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers, Display adapters, and Storage controllers.
- Right-click a device with a warning icon.
- Select Properties and read the Device status message.
- Use Update driver only for the device that actually has a problem.
- Restart and test the original application.
Do not remove a working device driver merely because rjbdll.dll is missing. If several devices have stale drivers and manually hunting through hardware pages is the problem, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show what it identifies; installing drivers requires the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling RealPlayer.
Fix 8: Scan for tampering or malware
Time needed: 20 minutes to several hours
An unknown program requesting rjbdll.dll, especially from a temporary or user-profile folder, deserves investigation.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Start a Full scan.
- If the result is inconclusive and suspicious startup behavior continues, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
- Restart when prompted and allow the scan to complete.
Do not restore a quarantined copy simply because its filename matches the missing file. The name alone does not prove that it belongs to RealNetworks.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal command for loading or repairing DLLs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesRunning this command:
regsvr32 rjbdll.dll
may produce an entry-point or registration error. Even if it runs, registration would not restore missing sibling files, codecs, configuration, or the RealPlayer installation that calls the DLL. Use the application’s installer instead.
Main causes of the error
The likely causes are:
- RealPlayer or RealOne Player was incompletely installed, damaged, or partially removed.
- Antivirus software quarantined or deleted a component.
- A stale startup entry still points to a deleted RealNetworks installation.
- The application was moved, restored from backup, or copied without all its files.
- A 32-bit legacy application is being paired with an incompatible or mismatched DLL.
- Broader Windows corruption is affecting several programs.
- An unfamiliar program or malware is using the filename to disguise its activity.
Security warning about old RealPlayer versions
RealOne Player versions 1 and 2 are legacy products, and RealNetworks no longer provides normal development or security support for them. Older RealPlayer versions also had known security problems involving an ActiveX-related buffer overflow.
That does not prove that every copy of rjbdll.dll is malicious. It does mean that reinstalling an unsupported RealPlayer solely to recover one file is a poor choice on an internet-connected PC. If you only need to play media, remove the obsolete application and use a maintained alternative.
FAQ

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchShould I download rjbdll.dll from a DLL website?
No. A random download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, the wrong build, or no matching dependencies. It also leaves the damaged application installation unresolved.
Is rjbdll.dll part of Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no evidence that it belongs to those Microsoft components. Installing them is not the normal fix.
Where should rjbdll.dll be located?
Normally inside the RealPlayer or RealOne Player application directory, not in System32 or SysWOW64.
Will current RealPlayer restore the missing file?
Not necessarily. Current RealPlayer and the old RealOne Player are different generations, so compatibility with every legacy caller is not guaranteed.
Recommended Free Tools
What if RealPlayer is no longer installed?
Look for a stale startup entry, scheduled task, or leftover application. Disable or remove the reference after confirming its path, rather than restoring the DLL.
Should I run System Restore?
System Restore can reverse a recent application or configuration change, but it is not a substitute for reinstalling a third-party application. Use it only when the problem clearly began after a recent restore point and the normal uninstall or reinstall path is unavailable.
What is the safest final solution?
Back up personal media and playlists, uninstall the obsolete RealPlayer installation, scan Windows, and use a maintained media application.
