Roblox age checks are not necessarily one-and-done. Roblox may ask you to check your age again if it detects a discrepancy, and it says users may occasionally need to re-check their age to keep access to features such as Trusted Friends and expressive chat. If facial age estimation fails, the documented fallback is government-ID verification—but that option is limited to users aged 13 or older.
Here is how to find the current age-check controls, what each result means, and which mistakes can be corrected only once.

How to start or repeat a Roblox age check
Roblox places the controls in Account info. The labels and available options can vary by region and account.
On desktop
- Sign in to Roblox.
- Select the Settings gear in the upper-right corner.
- Open Account info.
- Under Age Group, choose Continue with selfie for facial age estimation or Continue with ID for government-ID verification.
On mobile
- Sign in to Roblox.
- Tap More (…) in the bottom-right corner.
- Open Settings, then Account info.
- Under Age Group, choose Continue with selfie or Continue with ID, if the option is available.

What “re-verification” means on Roblox
Roblox does not promise that an age check remains permanently valid without further checks. After an age check, you may occasionally be prompted to use facial age estimation or ID verification again to maintain access to Trusted Friends and expressive chat.
A second check can also appear when Roblox detects a discrepancy with the account’s estimated age. That does not necessarily mean the account has been banned or that the original check was fraudulent; it means Roblox is asking for another age signal before continuing to provide age-dependent features.
The exact method offered is region-dependent. Some regions may require parental approval for facial age estimation, and not every age-check feature is available everywhere. Roblox’s explanation is in Understanding Age Checks on Roblox.

Choose Continue with selfie when that option is offered. Roblox uses a facial image and video to estimate an age group. Roblox currently identifies Persona as the third-party provider for this process.

The possible age groups are:
- 5–8
- 9–12
- 13–15
- 16–17
- 18–20
- 21+
According to Roblox, the facial images and video are deleted after processing, and Roblox does not receive or store biometric data from the facial-estimation process. That is Roblox’s stated handling of this process, not a guarantee that every jurisdiction applies identical privacy rules or feature availability.
If the result places the account in the 5–8 or 9–12 group, Roblox says certain personal data—including the account’s email address and phone number—will be removed.
If facial estimation cannot determine your age
Roblox says that when facial age estimation cannot estimate the user’s age, the user must complete ID verification. This is the point where some accounts become effectively stuck: ID verification is available only to users aged 13 or older, and it requires the user’s own government-issued photo ID.

To use the ID route, go to Settings → Account Info → Continue with ID → Continue. You will generally need to:

- Allow camera access.
- Scan the front of your government-issued photo ID.
- Scan the back if the document has a barcode.
- Capture the requested photo.
- Return to the original Roblox session for the real-time result.
Supported documents can include a driver’s license, passport, residency card, state ID, or residence permit. Roblox says ID verification is supported in more than 180 countries, but the documents accepted vary by country. See Roblox’s ID Verification instructions and ID Verification FAQs for the current requirements.
Processing can take several minutes. A blurry image, an ID that is not entirely in frame, or a document using non-Roman characters can make a check remain pending for longer.
A successful check displays Verified with a checkmark beneath the birthday in Settings → Account Info. If the birthday on the ID differs from the birthday on the Roblox account, Roblox says a successful verification changes the Roblox birthday to the date shown on the ID.

When an account is stuck after an incorrect result
Facial estimation says you are under 13, but you are 13 or older
Roblox says that if a user self-reports as 13+ but facial estimation returns an under-13 result, the age-group change has a 48-hour grace period before becoming final.

If you want to accept the change immediately, open Settings → Account info and select Accept now under Birthday. Another Roblox help page capitalizes the same control as Accept Now.
If the account is under 13 and the facial result is wrong, the documented correction route is Settings → Account info → the pencil icon next to the birthday. The under-13 route cannot use ID verification.
A linked parent needs to correct a child’s birthday
A linked parent can change the birthday of a child under 18 after facial age estimation, but Roblox allows that linked parent change only once. The path is:

- Open Settings → Parental Controls.
- Select the child.
- Select the pencil icon next to the child’s avatar.
- Select the arrow next to the birthday.
If the arrow is not present, Roblox does not allow the birthday to be set through that route. A parent also cannot change the child’s birthday through Parental Controls if the child has already completed government-ID age verification.

The account was incorrectly placed in the 18+ group
For an account incorrectly age-checked into 18+, Roblox documents a one-time reset:
- Open Settings → Account Info.
- Find Reset beneath the birthday and age group.
- Select Reset, then Continue.
Roblox says this reset can undo an age-checked status only once per account, whether the status came from facial age estimation or ID verification. Use it carefully: the published documentation does not provide a second reset after that one-time undo is used.
Roblox Support says it cannot manually verify IDs, remove existing verifications, or update account settings. In other words, contacting Support is not a documented way to bypass the reset limit or manually clear the result. Age checking is currently required for features including:
- Chat
- Restricted Content
- Chat without filters with Trusted Friends
- TeamCreate collaboration in Studio
Availability also depends on the account’s settings and region. Completing an age check does not automatically turn on every age-restricted feature.
Voice Chat
Eligible users aged 13 or older must complete an age check before using Voice Chat. Phone verification is not a valid Voice Chat verification method under Roblox’s current rules.
After facial age estimation or ID verification, Voice Chat still has to be enabled in a supported experience through the experience settings or the headphone icon. If the join-voice icon is missing, regional availability is one possible reason; Voice Chat and age verification are not available to every account or region. A practical decision guide
- You see “Continue with selfie”: use facial age estimation if you are comfortable with the process and it is available in your region.
- You see “Continue with ID”: use your own accepted government-issued photo ID, and capture every edge clearly.
- Facial estimation cannot determine your age: Roblox says ID verification is required, but that route is unavailable to users under 13.
- The result is under 13 and wrong: check the birthday-edit route or the 48-hour grace-period controls rather than repeatedly submitting random information.
- The result is incorrectly 18+: look for the one-time Reset → Continue control before contacting Support.
- Voice Chat is still missing: check regional availability, supported-experience settings, and the headphone icon; phone verification will not replace the age check.
