The milestone was a peak concurrent-user record: the number of people using Roblox at the same time at its busiest point. It was a platform-wide total, not the audience for one Roblox game and not a count of unique users over a day or month. Roblox reported the more-than-45-million figure for August 23 in its Q3 2025 shareholder letter filed with the SEC.

What drove the August 2025 peak?
The strongest explanation in the reporting is the unusually large, overlapping audiences for Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, including competing live events often described as “admin wars” or “admin abuse.” PC Gamer’s coverage describes the competing events, while Roblox’s shareholder letter highlights the experiences’ popularity.
Roblox also reported a sharp rise in platform peaks earlier in 2025. The company’s infrastructure article put the peak at 13.9 million in April and 30.6 million in June. Those figures, followed by the August record, show rapid growth in peak traffic; they do not by themselves establish a change in average or sustained use.

Roblox also said Steal a Brainrot later exceeded 25 million concurrent players during Q3 2025. These individual-game peaks are not interchangeable with the platform-wide total.
What controversy was happening at the time?
In August 2025, Roblox faced renewed criticism over child safety, moderation, and its actions against accounts associated with so-called predator-hunting or “vigilante” groups. In August, Louisiana’s attorney general filed a lawsuit alleging that Roblox failed to protect children from predators and harmful content. Those are allegations in a lawsuit, not findings established by the concurrency record.

The Associated Press reported on Louisiana’s allegations. Roblox disputed the claims and defended its safety systems in its response to the lawsuit. The company also explained its position on removing vigilante groups in a separate Roblox newsroom statement.
What the record does—and does not—show
The timing supports a limited conclusion: Roblox reached an extraordinary peak while facing intense public scrutiny. The event does not prove that the controversy was irrelevant, that parents were unconcerned, that users endorsed the platform’s safety policies, or that Roblox’s safety measures succeeded or failed. Nor does one event-driven peak establish long-term retention or typical daily traffic.

The most defensible reading is that viral experiences and coordinated live events drew a huge simultaneous audience, and the controversy had not prevented Roblox from reaching a new peak at that moment.
