Roblox emotes are full-body avatar animations used for gestures, reactions, and dances. In an experience, open the emotes menu or enter a chat command such as /e cheer. You can also buy and equip additional avatar emotes through Marketplace. Creators can make emotes in Roblox Studio, but Marketplace submissions must meet Roblox’s animation requirements and pass moderation.
What are Roblox emotes?
An emote is an animation an avatar performs to communicate or celebrate in a game. It is not an accessory or a physical item: Roblox represents an emote with an Animation object that points to an animation asset. This guide covers expressive, user-triggered animations—not animation packs that control movement such as walking or running. Roblox’s character emotes documentation describes emotes and how players use them.
How to use emotes in a Roblox experience
Use the emotes menu at the top-right of a game, or enter a supported emote command in chat. Roblox gives /e cheer as an example; available commands and whether emotes work can depend on the experience.
Roblox experiences can customize the emotes menu and its contents. Developers can equip up to eight emotes through HumanoidDescription:SetEquippedEmotes(), and can disable the menu. Disabling the menu does not itself prevent players from using chat-command emotes. Details for players and developers are in Roblox’s emotes documentation.

How to get and equip more emotes
Roblox supplies default emotes; dance, point, and cheer are examples in its documentation. To expand your choices, browse avatar emotes in Marketplace, then buy and equip the ones you want. Marketplace listings and prices can change, so check the current listing for a specific emote rather than relying on an old price or catalog list. Roblox Marketplace is the place to browse listings.
How to create an emote
Roblox identifies three authoring routes: Animation Capture, the Animation Editor, and third-party plugins. Capture-based work, manual animation in Studio, and plugin workflows differ in how you produce animation data, but any emote submitted to Marketplace must satisfy the same technical and policy requirements. Roblox names Moon Animator as an example of a third-party plugin, not as an endorsement. Roblox’s emote guide outlines authoring options.
Prepare and publish the animation in Studio

Import the animation into Roblox Studio and convert its data to a

Publish the animation to generate an asset ID, then create an Animation object and set its
AnimationIdproperty to that ID.
These are the documented asset-preparation steps; Roblox’s CurveAnimation documentation describes the format and workflow.

Submit the emote for Marketplace review

Save the Animation object to Roblox.

Submit it with Content Type set to
Avatar Itemand Asset Category set toEmote. -
Pay the upload fee shown in Roblox’s documentation—80 Robux per emote upload on the page checked October 4, 2026—and submit the item for moderation.

The 80 Robux figure is an upload fee, not the retail price of an emote. Roblox’s emote import instructions cover submission and moderation.

Marketplace emote requirements and limits

Duration: The animation must be less than 10 seconds.

Rig and format: Marketplace emotes must use a standard R15 rig and CurveAnimation data. The specifications page reviewed describes advanced R15 emotes as closed beta.

Movement: Root movement and movement speed are limited. Roblox’s specifications page does not state a numeric threshold in the reviewed text, so validate the animation against the current requirements rather than assuming a particular maximum.
