Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman explained the decision on August 13, 2025. Those allegations are Roblox’s explanation, not independently verified findings about individual accounts.
What Roblox said the vigilantes did
In its August 13, 2025 explanation, Roblox said some vigilante activity crossed from documenting or reporting concerns into direct engagement with suspected users. The company alleged that some people impersonated minors, approached adults, and tried to move conversations to other platforms. Roblox said this conduct violated its rules and created risks for users.
The post does not provide evidence or case details for individual account removals. It is the company’s account of its decision; it does not independently establish what happened in each case or whether Roblox applied its policies consistently.
Which conduct Roblox says its rules prohibit
Roblox said its policies prohibit directing users off-platform through chat and having or simulating sexually explicit conversations. The company said it may remove users for violations and, when warranted, report matters to law enforcement.

How Roblox says users should report suspected abuse
Roblox urged users to report suspected violations promptly through its reporting tools rather than confronting suspected users themselves. Its post described these reporting routes:

Roblox asks reporters to explain specifically what they believe the user or content did. The company said reports can include context and metadata, such as object IDs and avatar IDs, which a screenshot may not capture. The interfaces above are those described in the August 2025 post; Roblox has not established there that the steps remain unchanged.
Why screenshots from other platforms may not be enough
Roblox said it cannot act on screenshots of off-platform conversations unless it independently confirms the behavior or sees similar conduct on Roblox. Its stated concern is that unverified evidence could be fabricated to target another user.

This creates a practical distinction: reporting what happened on Roblox gives moderators access to platform context, while claims based only on activity elsewhere may be harder for the company to verify. Roblox’s explanation describes its evidence limits, but does not settle broader questions about transparency or how a particular report was assessed.

The post sets out Roblox’s rationale, relevant policy claims, reporting guidance, and selected company statistics. It does not independently verify the alleged conduct, disclose the evidence behind individual removals, or demonstrate consistent enforcement across accounts. Roblox also described a Trusted Flagger program for partner organizations reporting serious criminal activity for priority review; it characterized participants as typically reputable organizations with relevant expertise and invited interested entities to reach out, without confirming any specific organization’s acceptance or current availability.
