The claim that Roblox is banning all adverts for anyone under 13 is misleading. Roblox already restricted several major advertising products from reaching under-13 users in 2022. Its 2026 updates introduced a more detailed, age-gated system: some age-appropriate advertising formats may still be available to U13 audiences, while rewarded videos, personalized advertising, unsuitable categories, and certain promotional techniques are restricted or prohibited.
The practical answer depends on what “advert” means—such as a Roblox-served ad, a rewarded video, a sponsored creator integration, or a branded experience.
What changed in 2026?
Roblox’s current advertising framework was announced through several updates. On March 20, 2026, Roblox added detailed rules covering Advertising Integrations, age-appropriate advertising, and restricted categories for U13 audiences. The framework became effective on May 4, 2026. Roblox then expanded category guidance on June 5, including areas such as entertainment, music, gaming, politics, tobacco, food and beverages, and health-related advertising.

Roblox’s developer announcement says that age-appropriate advertising formats can be shown to users in all three audience categories: 18+, 13–17, and Under 13, subject to the relevant rules and campaign eligibility. That is not a blanket ban on every advert for children.
The policy is best understood as a tightening and formalization of age-gating, content restrictions, disclosure requirements, and developer responsibilities.

Roblox had already restricted under-13 ad audiences
This is not an entirely new policy. On October 24, 2022, Roblox said that new campaigns for Sponsored Experiences, Sponsored Items, and User Ads could no longer reach users under 13.

That earlier change is important because it means the headline “Roblox is banning adverts for under-13s” can wrongly imply that Roblox has only now decided to remove advertising from children’s accounts. Restrictions on major Roblox advertising products have existed for years; the 2026 changes define more precisely what may still appear and how it must be handled.

What can under-13 users see?
There is no single answer for every advertising format. Eligibility can depend on the user’s age category, region, campaign audience, the experience involved, the ad format, and whether Roblox has approved the campaign.
| Advertising type or practice | Position for U13 audiences |
|---|---|
| Rewarded video ads | Not allowed for under-13 users; this format is restricted to users aged 13 and older. |
| Personalized advertising | Not allowed for users under 18—not just users under 13. |
| Age-appropriate ad formats | May be available to U13 audiences when the format, campaign, placement, and content meet Roblox’s requirements. |
| Adult-oriented products and services | Restricted or prohibited for audiences that include U13 users. |
| Ads that reward engagement | Developers must not incentivize U13 users to watch, click, or otherwise engage with advertising. |
| Unapproved or undisclosed creator advertising | Not permitted and can lead to content or account enforcement. |
This means “some ads may be eligible” should not be confused with “developers can freely advertise to children.” Only advertising that is age-appropriate, approved where required, clearly disclosed, and correctly gated may be eligible.

Roblox’s support guidance states that rewarded video ads are limited to users aged 13 and older. A developer must not offer Robux, items, or another benefit in exchange for a child watching or interacting with an advert.

That restriction applies even though rewarded advertising remains available elsewhere on Roblox. Saying that “rewarded ads are banned on Roblox” would therefore be inaccurate; the specific rule is that under-13 users must not be offered rewarded video ads.
Roblox’s ads support guidance and Advertising Integrations documentation explain the format’s age limitation.
Personalized advertising is restricted below 18
Roblox’s Community Standards prohibit personalized advertising for users under 18. This is a broader rule than the U13 advertising restrictions.
As a result, the applicable age threshold depends on the question:
- Under 13: additional restrictions apply to ad formats, categories, eligibility, and incentives.
- Under 18: personalized advertising is prohibited.
- 13 and older: rewarded video ads may be available, subject to Roblox’s other rules and eligibility requirements.
Read the relevant Roblox Community Standards.
Which advertising categories are restricted for U13 audiences?
Roblox does not treat advertising as simply “allowed” or “banned.” Its standards restrict categories that are unsuitable for U13 audiences. Examples include:

- Toys, hobbies, and learning: products inappropriate for children aged 13 or below are not permitted, including toys or games directly based on products intended for adults.
- Clothing: real-world undergarments and swimwear generally may not be depicted or promoted to U13 audiences. Body-shaping clothing and compression wear are also restricted, with limited exceptions connected to activities such as travel, sporting events, or classes.
- Travel and events: adults-only resorts or cruises, extreme or high-risk adventure travel, and events centered on alcohol, tobacco, or drugs are restricted.
- Online services: advertising for services such as social media and messaging, e-commerce, live streaming, and AI-based chatbots is prohibited for U13 audiences under the standards.
Roblox’s category guidance has changed over time, so the live Advertising Standards should be treated as authoritative rather than relying on a shortened list from an older report.
What counts as an advert on Roblox?
The rules cover more than a conventional banner or video served by Roblox. Promotional content may count as advertising when:
Recommended Free Tools
- a brand compensates a creator to feature a product or service inside an experience;
- content promotes an off-platform product, service, event, or persona; or
- the content functions as promotion rather than ordinary gameplay or editorial material.
Advertising Integrations must use Roblox’s required advertising tools, and promotional content must be clearly disclosed. A branded experience or sponsored in-game feature should not be presented in a way that makes users believe it is ordinary, independent game content when it is actually paid promotion.
This does not mean every brand appearance is automatically an advert. Ordinary gameplay, incidental visual references, and standard Roblox monetization—such as a developer product, subscription, or Robux purchase—should not automatically be described as third-party advertising. The classification depends on the content’s purpose and relationship to a brand.
What developers and advertisers must do
Developers using Advertising Integrations must take responsibility for how campaigns are presented and served. The key requirements include:
- Submit assets for review: campaign materials must be submitted to Roblox for review and approval before exposure where the product’s rules require it.
- Gate the audience: advertisements must not be shown to users who are ineligible for the campaign, format, or category.
- Disclose the promotion: advertising disclosures must be clear and prominent.
- Do not disguise ads: users must not be misled into thinking paid promotional material is ordinary game content.
- Do not reward U13 engagement: children must not be offered Robux, items, or other incentives to interact with advertisements.
- Respect data restrictions: developers must not make programmatic calls to third-party advertising or measurement services where prohibited, or share personally identifiable user-engagement information with advertisers.
Roblox’s developer documentation covers implementation requirements, while its Immersive Ads documentation explains format eligibility. Creators must also meet product-specific requirements; for example, Roblox says creators must be at least 13 to use Immersive Ads.

A violation does not necessarily mean Roblox has banned advertising across the entire platform. Enforcement may target the specific content, campaign, advertiser, or developer.

- revoked or suspended payouts;
- loss of eligibility to earn advertising revenue; and
- restrictions on creating future campaigns or ad accounts.

“U13” is an audience category used for policy and advertising eligibility. It should not be treated as proof that Roblox has perfectly verified every account holder’s real-world age.

What a user sees can be affected by account information, age-assurance systems, parental controls, region, and campaign eligibility. Roblox has also been introducing broader age-based account and age-assurance changes in 2026, including facial age estimation in some contexts. Those safety and account changes are related to age classification but are not identical to the advertising policy.
Roblox’s account and age-assurance announcement should therefore not be read as a separate declaration that every under-13 account will experience exactly the same advertising treatment worldwide.

What parents should expect
Parents should not assume that every promotional element has disappeared from a child’s Roblox experience. Age-appropriate advertising may still be eligible in some circumstances, while unsuitable categories, personalized advertising, and rewarded videos remain restricted.
Parents should also distinguish between:
- a Roblox-served advert;
- a paid creator or brand integration;
- a branded or sponsored experience;
- a developer’s ordinary in-game purchase prompt; and
- an off-platform promotion embedded in game content.
Seeing a promotional item is not by itself proof that Roblox has violated its policy, but Roblox’s rules do not guarantee that inappropriate promotional material can never be encountered. Incorrect account information, attempted circumvention, implementation mistakes, unclear disclosures, regional campaign differences, or content removed only after exposure can all affect what users experience.
If an advert appears inappropriate or misleading, Roblox says users can select the ad label and use the report option. Advertising rules also do not replace parental controls, supervision, or Roblox’s broader safety settings.
Timeline of the policy
| Date | Development |
|---|---|
| October 24, 2022 | Roblox said new Sponsored Experiences, Sponsored Items, and User Ads could no longer reach users under 13. |
| March 20, 2026 | Roblox announced detailed rules for Advertising Integrations, age-appropriate advertising, and restricted U13 categories. |
| May 4, 2026 | The new advertising-policy framework took effect. Roblox said age-appropriate formats could be available across adult, teen, and U13 categories. |
| June 5, 2026 | Roblox updated category guidance covering areas including entertainment, music, gaming, politics, tobacco, food and beverages, and health-related advertising. |
| August 18, 2026 | The current standards described an age-gated and age-appropriate system, not a universal ban on every advert for U13 users. |
Why the headline is misleading
“Roblox is banning adverts for anyone under 13” collapses several different rules into one sentence. It may refer to the long-standing restriction on certain Roblox-served campaigns, the 2026 rules for U13 advertising categories, or the specific 13+ limit on rewarded videos. Those are not interchangeable.
The precise summary is this: Roblox restricts advertising to children, blocks personalized advertising for users under 18, prohibits rewarded videos and advertising incentives for U13 users, and limits unsuitable categories and promotional practices. But the current policy does not say that every age-appropriate advertisement is universally banned for every under-13 user.
