Roblox does not say it collects precise location for its Account Location feature. Instead, Roblox estimates a broad regional location from device signals such as an IP address. That estimate is different from what friends can see: your online status and the experience you are playing are controlled by visibility settings, not by a map of your physical whereabouts.
There is one important exception. Roblox’s Privacy and Cookie Policy says users aged 13 or older may choose certain location-based services. If a user agrees to one of those services, Roblox may collect and track geolocation for that feature. The policy page announces revised terms effective November 1, 2026, so check the live policy and the feature’s device permissions before relying on policy-specific details.

Three different meanings of “location” on Roblox
The question “Does Roblox share your location?” combines three separate issues. Separating them gives a more accurate answer than a simple yes or no.

These categories should not be treated as interchangeable. A regional account estimate is not a GPS record, and hiding your current experience does not automatically disable every location permission on a device.

What Account Location actually records
Roblox’s Account Location help page says the feature detects a general regional location from device signals, including an IP address. Roblox states: “We do not collect precise geolocation data and instead rely on general regional location over a period of time.” In practical terms, this is intended to identify a broad region rather than a street address or live latitude-and-longitude position.
The location is detected automatically and can update over time. If you have recently moved, the old region may continue to appear temporarily while Roblox receives enough newer signals. The page also notes that a VPN can affect the accuracy of the regional estimate. That means the displayed region may reflect the network path Roblox sees instead of the place where you are physically sitting.
To view the region associated with your account, open Account Settings → Account Info. The page does not describe this screen as a precise tracking display, and it does not establish that other players can use it to find you.

Roblox’s documented friend-facing controls concern presence, not a precise location pin. The Online Status and Visibility support page explains that you can control who sees your online status and who can see the experience you are currently playing.

The documented path is:
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy & content restrictions.
- Open Visibility & private servers.
- Under Visibility, set Online Status and Show current experience to the preferred audience.
Audience choices vary by age and region. People outside the selected audience will see you as offline, or they will not see the experience you are playing. Roblox’s instructions do not say that these settings publish your regional Account Location, reveal an address, or provide a real-time map position.
What optional location services change
The account-location statement is not a promise that Roblox never handles any form of geolocation. Roblox’s Privacy and Cookie Policy separately describes location-based services. It says users aged 13 or older can choose such services and, when they agree, Roblox may collect and track geolocation for those services.
The exact result depends on the feature and your region. A service might require a device location permission, while another account feature may use only the regional estimate described above. Check the permission requested by the specific Roblox feature rather than assuming that one setting covers the entire platform.
The policy page currently announces revised terms taking effect on November 1, 2026. Because that date is after the policy information reviewed for this article, read the live policy after the effective date for the wording that applies to your account. Regional sections, age thresholds and device controls can change.

Regional estimate versus precise geolocation
The following comparison shows why a VPN or a privacy setting can affect one type of information without solving every location concern.

How to limit what other users can see
Hide your online status
Use Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Visibility & private servers → Visibility, then change Online Status. Select the narrowest audience that suits your account. Roblox may present different choices for different ages and regions, so the labels on your screen may not match another player’s screen.
Hide the experience you are playing
In the same Visibility area, change Show current experience. Users outside the selected audience should not see the experience currently running. This conceals gameplay presence; it is not a setting for deleting Roblox’s internal Account Location estimate.

If a Roblox feature asks for location, identify the service first and read its consent explanation. Then review Roblox’s current policy and your operating system’s app-location permission. The policy page says device settings can be used to stop collection of location information, but the precise switches and legal wording can depend on the region and the policy version in force.

What parents can control
Parents can manage a child’s available controls after linking a parent account. Roblox’s Parental Controls Overview explains that the controls depend on the child’s age and that some settings move to the child as they get older.
To reach the parental controls area, open Settings → Parental controls after the parent account has been linked. The overview does not say that parental controls expose a child’s precise physical location. Use them to review the privacy and safety options Roblox actually presents for that child’s age, rather than expecting a location-tracking dashboard.
Age transitions matter. A setting available to a parent for a younger child may later require the child to manage it directly. If a control appears to be missing, check the account relationship, the child’s age category and the current regional version of Roblox before assuming that the feature is broken.
What a VPN can and cannot do
Roblox says a VPN may affect the accuracy of Account Location because it changes the network signal used to estimate a region. It does not say that a VPN prevents all geolocation collection, disables an optional location-based service, or hides your online status from friends.

For that reason, a VPN should not be treated as a complete Roblox location-privacy solution. If your concern is what friends can see, change Online Status and Show current experience. If your concern is an optional service requesting geolocation, review consent and device permissions. Those controls address different data flows.
Troubleshooting common location concerns
My Account Location shows the wrong region
- Check whether you recently moved or changed networks; Roblox says the estimate updates over time rather than instantly.
- Consider whether a VPN or another routed connection is changing the IP-based signal.
- Use Account Settings → Account Info to monitor whether the region changes after normal use.
A displayed region is an estimate, so it should not be interpreted as proof that Roblox has a precise record of your physical position.
A friend still knows when I am playing
- Reopen Settings → Privacy & content restrictions → Visibility & private servers → Visibility.
- Check both Online Status and Show current experience; changing only one leaves the other available to its selected audience.
- Remember that the available audience choices can differ by age and region.
I am worried about a location request from a Roblox feature
- Identify whether the request belongs to an optional location-based service rather than Account Location.
- Review the current Roblox Privacy and Cookie Policy, including the section for your region.
- Inspect the Roblox app’s location permission in your device settings and disable it when the feature does not need it.
Disabling a device permission may also disable the feature that requested it, so read the feature’s explanation before making the change.

Verify that the parent account is linked and that the child’s age category is correct. Roblox says controls can change as a child gets older, so an unavailable option may reflect the account’s age-based design rather than a technical error.
Privacy checklist for Roblox families
- View the account’s broad region under Account Settings → Account Info.
- Set Online Status and Show current experience to the intended audience.
- Do not assume that hiding gameplay presence changes Roblox’s internal regional estimate.
- For users aged 13 or older, review consent before enabling a location-based service.
- Check the device’s Roblox location permission whenever a feature requests geolocation.
- Use linked parental controls, while expecting available settings to vary with age and region.
- Recheck the live Privacy and Cookie Policy after November 1, 2026, when the announced revision takes effect.
Bottom line: does Roblox share your location?
Roblox says Account Location is a general regional estimate based on device signals, not precise geolocation, and its support documentation does not describe that estimate as something friends can view. Friends may still see your online status or current experience unless you restrict those items in Visibility settings. Separately, an eligible user who opts into a location-based service may allow geolocation collection and tracking for that service. The safest approach is to manage presence visibility, consent and device permissions separately, and to verify the current policy for your age and region.
