Roblox music codes are audio asset IDs, but an ID from a December 2021 list is not proof that the audio still plays today. Roblox’s privacy and permission rules have changed, and its current documentation does not verify any individual code from that historical list. For audio you can use now, browse the Creator Store or, if you’re a creator, import audio you have rights to use and grant the required experience permissions.
What a Roblox music code does
A Roblox music code, also called a song ID, identifies an audio asset. Roblox says that Studio assigns each new audio asset a unique asset ID that can be used in games to play the audio. The ID is a reference, not a license or access pass: whether it works depends on the asset’s availability and permissions.
Are December 2021 Roblox song IDs still working?
They should be treated as historical, not as a currently verified working list. Roblox’s current documentation does not certify specific IDs from December 2021. That does not establish that every old ID is disabled; it means availability must be checked under current access rules rather than assumed from an old list.
Roblox announced changes to audio asset privacy in March 2022 and, on December 1, 2023, described privacy and permission features for private audio and video assets. Roblox also recommended moving away from ID-based playback options and toward letting users choose from its licensed music catalog. These changes make an old code especially unreliable as a promise of playback.

Find audio through Roblox’s Creator Store
For creators looking for audio to use in an experience, Roblox’s official route is to browse the Audio category in the Creator Store. Open an asset’s page and copy its asset ID if you need to reference it in your experience. Check the asset’s availability and permissions; copying an ID does not itself grant access.
Import audio you are authorized to use
Creators can import audio through the Asset Manager, Creator Dashboard, or Open Cloud API. Roblox requires uploaders to have the legal rights to use the audio and to follow its Community Rules and Terms of Use. Do not upload commercial songs without the necessary rights or try to bypass moderation or access controls.

Imported audio may initially be private. Roblox’s asset privacy system determines who can access it, and creators can grant permissions to specific friends and experiences. If an asset does not play in an experience, check its privacy and experience permissions as well as the ID.
Use an audio asset in an experience
Once an audio asset is available to the experience, its ID can be used with Roblox sound objects. Where the Sound object is placed affects how players hear it:

- Workspace or SoundService: A Sound placed directly in either location can be heard regardless of a player’s position.
- A 3D object or Attachment: A Sound attached to one of these is positional, so its volume depends on where the player is relative to the sound.

If you are a player looking for music in an experience, an old ID list cannot grant permission to an asset. The experience creator controls what audio is available there. If you are building an experience, use catalog audio or authorized uploads and verify access in Roblox rather than relying on a code copied from a 2021 list.
