Choose the right access path
First check whether the experience belongs to your Roblox account or to a group. That determines how editing access is managed.

Invite a collaborator to a user-owned experience
- Open the experience in Roblox Studio.
- Click Collaborate on the mezzanine bar.
- Search for the person. The dropdown identifies friends with a Friend label.
- Select the person, choose Edit, then click Save.
- Ask the collaborator to open Creator Dashboard, find the experience, and select Edit in Studio.
Roblox distinguishes four access levels. Owner can manage other users’ permissions; Edit allows editing and also grants Play access; Play allows private play; and No Access grants neither. For user-owned experiences, the owner can grant Play access to any user or group, but can grant Edit access only to Roblox friends. Set editing access for a group-owned experience
Group-owned experiences do not use the same friend-based Edit invitation as user-owned experiences. A group owner, or a member with sufficient role-management permissions, can assign the group role permission Edit experiences. That role permission applies across the group’s games. An authorized user may also configure access for an individual game.
Studio’s Manage Collaborators workflow can add individual collaborators to a group-owned game for Play access. Editing access is controlled by the relevant group role and its permissions. For role and membership controls, see Roblox’s Groups documentation.

Inviting someone to the group is a separate step
If the person is not yet a group member, an authorized member can open the group’s Members page, choose Invite, search for the person’s username, and send an invitation. Joining the group does not by itself explain or replace the need for the appropriate editing role or per-game access.
What collaborators can do in a live session
Roblox Studio collaboration lets contributors work at the same time and see one another’s changes. Studio displays collaborators and their selections, and users can jump to a teammate’s current work area. Contributors can attach comments to objects and update them in real time; live scripting also supports collaborative editing. Roblox describes these features in its Collaboration documentation and Projects overview.

Check age eligibility if the invitation does not work
Roblox requires an age check to use Studio collaboration with other creators through Team Create. Once age-checked, creators can collaborate with compatible age groups by default. Roblox’s current rules include additional requirements for collaboration across age groups, such as trusted-friend status with a collaborator who has already accessed the game or linked-parent permission for collaboration with all age groups. Under-13 trusted-friend requests require parental approval; Roblox notes that some regions extend that requirement to older teenagers.
These platform rules can change, so check Roblox’s current Collaboration documentation for the age-group requirements that apply to the accounts involved. A person may still have Edit permission and be unable to join because an age-based requirement is unmet; treat that as a separate eligibility check rather than assuming the permission setting failed.

Troubleshoot access in this order
- Confirm who owns the experience. User-owned and group-owned experiences use different editing-access paths.
- For a user-owned experience, verify the collaborator is your Roblox friend. Confirm that you selected Edit and clicked Save.
- For a group-owned experience, check the role. Verify that the person’s group role has Edit experiences, or that an authorized manager configured the intended per-game access.
- Check how the person is opening it. Have them locate the experience in Creator Dashboard and select Edit in Studio.
- Check age eligibility separately. If the permission path appears correct but the collaborator cannot join, review age-check status and Roblox’s current age-based collaboration requirements.
Saving and recovering collaborative work
Roblox documents automatic cloud saving for collaborative projects and autosaving for scripts. Experience owners can use Version History to revert saved place versions. Because save timing and platform behavior can change, consult the Collaboration documentation for the current details.
