Roblox Terms of Use are a platform contract, not just a list of gameplay rules. They govern account access, user conduct, moderation, privacy, Robux, virtual content, subscriptions, creator tools, user-generated content, and disputes. The Terms also incorporate or work alongside the Community Standards, Privacy and Cookie Policy, content-maturity provisions, Subscription Terms, and regional rules.
The official Roblox Terms page identified for this guide lists May 19, 2026 as its effective date. Roblox says the Terms may change and that continued use after an updated version takes effect constitutes acceptance, so check the current official page before relying on this explanation. This is general information, not individualized legal advice.

Roblox Terms of Use are more than gameplay rules
Roblox defines its Services broadly. The term covers the Roblox website, platform, applications, forums, content, functionality, products, and services. That means the Terms reach beyond what happens inside an individual Experience.
Recommended Free Tools
The agreement is layered:
| Document or rule set | What it covers |
|---|---|
| User Terms | Access to Roblox and use of the platform’s features, accounts, purchases, virtual content, and services. |
| Creator Terms | Creating, uploading, publishing, operating, and monetizing user-generated content. They apply to users who create or publish content, not only professional developers. |
| Community Standards | Prohibited behavior and content. Roblox treats a Community Standards violation as a Terms violation. |
| Privacy and Cookie Policy | Privacy, data use, monitoring, cookies, and related information practices. |
| Content-maturity provisions | Information and requirements connected with the maturity or suitability of content. |
| Subscription Terms | Additional rules for paid Roblox subscriptions and their benefits. |
| Regional appendices | Additional provisions for locations including China, Japan, the European Union and European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, and Australia. |
In practical terms, accepting Roblox’s Terms means accepting a network of incorporated rules rather than a single page of account conditions. An Experience creator may add rules for a particular Experience, but those rules cannot override Roblox’s Terms, Community Standards, or other applicable Roblox terms.

Which version of the Roblox Terms applies?
The official Roblox Terms of Use page identified for this guide lists May 19, 2026 as its effective date. Treat that date as a version marker, not as a permanent guarantee that the rules will remain unchanged. Roblox states that it may update the Terms and that continuing to use the Services after an update’s effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Before relying on a rule about refunds, account access, arbitration, age requirements, privacy, or creator monetization, open the current official Terms page and check its effective date. Older explainers can become misleading when Roblox changes a rule or moves details into an incorporated policy.
Acceptance, legal age, and parental consent
Roblox presents the Terms as a legally binding agreement. An adult is expected to confirm that they understand and agree to the Terms before using the Services. The relevant age is not one universal Roblox age threshold: the language refers to the legal age of majority in the user’s jurisdiction and state of residence.

The parent or guardian also accepts responsibility for the minor’s activities under the agreement, including purchases of virtual content.
This distinction matters for families. A child’s ability to open or use an account does not by itself answer who must consent, who is responsible for purchases, or which local consumer and privacy rules apply. Regional supplemental provisions and mandatory local law may affect the result.
Accounts, information requests, suspension, and termination
Roblox may request information used to create or secure an account. The Terms and related account materials identify examples such as:
- username and date of birth;
- an authentication method;
- a verified email address or phone number; and
- in some circumstances, government-issued photo identification.
Roblox reserves the ability to suspend or terminate accounts for violations. Because the Community Standards are incorporated into the Terms, prohibited conduct is not merely a moderation issue separate from the contract. Roblox’s safety materials state that it may act against violating content and against the accounts of users who create prohibited content or engage in prohibited behavior.

Account access and digital-item ownership are separate questions. If an account is suspended or terminated, the user may lose access to Robux, subscriptions, Experiences, private-server access, and other virtual content associated with that account. That consequence does not mean the user owned those items as ordinary property in the first place. The Terms generally describe virtual goods and currency as platform-governed licenses or access rights.
Community Standards: the conduct rules that matter most
The Community Standards provide the clearest practical description of what Roblox prohibits. They are grouped broadly under Safety, Civility, Integrity, and Security. The categories are broad, and the following examples are not an exhaustive substitute for reading the current Standards.
- Safety: child exploitation, terrorism and violent extremism, suicide or self-injury content, harmful off-platform behavior, violent or gory content, and romantic or sexual content.
- Civility: harassment, discrimination, personal-information sharing, profanity, and certain political-figure or political-entity content.
- Integrity: cheating, scams, misleading content, intellectual-property violations, and advertising violations.
- Security: misuse of Roblox systems, attempts to compromise accounts or platform functions, and other conduct that threatens the integrity of the Services.
The Standards also address illegal or regulated goods and activities, directing users off-platform, and other categories that can create safety, fraud, privacy, or compliance risks.
Roblox says it may remove or restrict violating content and take action against the accounts of users who created it. The Terms expressly connect Community Standards violations to Terms violations, so an account sanction can follow behavior that occurred in chat, an upload, an Experience, an advertisement, or another part of the platform.

Experience Rules do not replace Roblox’s rules
A creator can publish additional rules for a particular Experience. For example, an Experience might explain how players should behave in a role-play environment or how a competition operates. Those local rules are subordinate to Roblox’s platform rules. They cannot authorize harassment, scams, unsafe conduct, privacy violations, prohibited transactions, or other behavior that Roblox’s Terms or Community Standards prohibit.
Robux: a platform license, not cash
Robux is Roblox’s official in-platform currency. Under the Terms, acquiring Robux generally gives the user a limited, non-transferable, revocable license to use it within Roblox for personal entertainment and only in permitted ways.
That wording has several practical consequences:
- Robux is not generally money. The Terms say it generally has no equivalent value in real currency and cannot be redeemed for real currency.
- Robux is not an investment. Roblox does not guarantee its availability, stability, or value.
- Robux is not freely transferable. Attempts to buy, sell, or transfer Robux outside permitted Roblox systems can violate the Terms.
- There is a narrow creator-related exception. Qualifying creator earnings may be eligible for real-currency payments through the DevEx framework. That exception does not turn purchased Robux into cash.
- Roblox can change the system. The Terms reserve discretion to change Robux, including acquisition limits and pricing.
Payments for Robux are generally final and non-refundable except where a refund is required by law. That is different from saying that every Roblox purchase is permanently non-refundable in every country: applicable law, the purchase channel, and the specific product can matter.
Subscriptions have additional terms
Roblox may offer paid subscriptions with additional benefits. The main Terms state that subscriptions are also governed by separate Roblox Subscription Terms. Therefore, a question about recurring billing, cancellation, subscription benefits, or subscription-specific eligibility should be checked against those Subscription Terms and the law applicable to the purchase location.
The general Robux rule should not be used as a shortcut for every subscription question. Conversely, the existence of a subscription does not change the basic distinction between platform access, licensed virtual content, and ordinary property ownership.

Roblox uses the term Virtual Content broadly. It can include:
- virtual items such as avatar clothing and other digital items;
- In-Experience Items such as game passes and special abilities;
- Experiences;
- private-server access; and
- related content offered by Roblox or creators.
The Terms say that users may acquire this content only on the Services and for personal entertainment. They also say that virtual content has no real-world equivalent value and that a transaction generally does not give the user enforceable property rights in the content.
In plain language, buying an avatar item is not the same legal transaction as buying a physical shirt. The user receives a platform-controlled license or access right, subject to Roblox’s Terms and the continued operation of the relevant Service. The item may not be transferable, available outside Roblox, or accessible if the associated account loses access.
Roblox restricts attempts to buy, sell, transfer, or otherwise use Robux or virtual content outside the Services unless the applicable Roblox Terms expressly permit the activity. Unauthorized third-party transactions can violate the Terms and may lead to suspension or termination. This is why offers to exchange Robux, accounts, items, or access through unofficial marketplaces carry both account and fraud risks.

Creators, Roblox Studio, and user-generated content
The Creator Terms apply to all users who access creator tools or publish user-generated content. A creator does not need to be a large studio or earn money for these obligations to matter.
Roblox provides Studio as a free tool for creating, developing, modifying, operating, and publishing Experiences and three-dimensional virtual content. The Studio license is described as:
- non-exclusive;
- limited;
- revocable;
- non-sublicensable; and
- non-transferable.
Use of Studio is conditioned on compliance with the Creator Terms. Creators must also follow the Community Standards, applicable laws, and additional terms that may apply to advertising, music, facial-media capture, APIs, DevEx, and other platform features.
Creator earnings are not the same as purchased Robux
The Terms address creator monetization, but a creator should not treat every Robux balance as an amount eligible for a cash-out program. Robux obtained from purchased gift cards, subscriptions, or ordinary user purchases should not automatically be confused with Earned Robux eligible for creator programs. DevEx eligibility depends on the applicable Roblox program requirements and terms.

Roblox’s moderation documentation says that creator uploads, including images, meshes, audio files, and video files, go through a multi-step review process before appearing on the platform. Passing or completing review is not a promise that content will remain available permanently. Content can still be changed or removed under the Terms, Community Standards, moderation rules, or other applicable requirements.
Creators should keep their own lawful source files and records, avoid uploading material they do not have rights to use, and read feature-specific terms before using music, advertising, facial-media capture, APIs, or monetization tools.
Privacy, monitoring, and moderation
The Roblox Privacy and Cookie Policy forms part of the broader Terms framework, but it is the more specific source for data practices. The Terms establish the contractual relationship; the Privacy Policy explains how Roblox describes its handling of information and content.
Roblox says it may monitor what users say and write to check compliance with the Terms and Community Standards. The policy also warns that content may be captured or shared by other users. Roblox may change or remove content that it considers inappropriate, privacy-invasive, or otherwise unsuitable for the platform.
Where legally permitted, the policy describes uses of content and interaction data that can include improving the Roblox experience, responding to account-support requests, improving filtering, and training models. The policy also refers to applicable data-sharing preferences and notices. Those details can vary by jurisdiction and policy version, so they should not be reduced to a blanket statement that Roblox uses every user’s data in the same way everywhere.
Parents and guardians should use Roblox’s official safety and parental-control materials alongside the Terms. The contract does not by itself explain every available safety setting, supervision feature, content-maturity control, or reporting process. Community Standards and safety features can also be updated separately from the main Terms.

For users in the United States, the Terms include an individual binding-arbitration provision and a class-action waiver. Those provisions are not a universal rule for every Roblox user.

Practical checklist for players, parents, and creators
For players
- Check the effective date on the official Terms page before relying on an old summary.
- Read the Community Standards, not only the short account rules.
- Keep Robux and virtual content inside Roblox unless a Roblox term expressly permits another use.
- Do not assume that an avatar item, game pass, Experience, or private-server access is ordinary property or transferable.
- Assume Robux purchases are final unless applicable law or the specific purchase terms provide otherwise.
- Do not share personal information or participate in unofficial account, Robux, or item markets.
For parents and guardians
- Read and consent to the Terms before a minor uses Roblox, taking account of the legal age rules in your jurisdiction.
- Remember that the Terms place responsibility for the minor’s activities, including virtual-content purchases, on the consenting parent or guardian.
- Review the Community Standards, Privacy and Cookie Policy, content-maturity information, and official parental-control materials together.
- Check the exact type of gift card before buying. Amazon and Party Pack cards have different redemption limitations from cards that provide Roblox Credit.
- Review subscription-specific terms separately if a paid subscription is involved.
For creators
- Read the Creator Terms before using Studio or publishing user-generated content.
- Confirm that uploads comply with Roblox’s Community Standards, applicable law, intellectual-property requirements, and any feature-specific rules.
- Expect images, meshes, audio, and video to undergo moderation review before appearing, and do not assume approval guarantees permanent availability.
- Separate purchased Robux from Earned Robux when evaluating creator-program eligibility.
- Read additional terms before using advertising, music, facial-media capture, APIs, or DevEx.
Official documents to check together
For a current answer, start with the official Roblox Terms of Use page and then open the materials it incorporates or identifies:
- Roblox User Terms and Creator Terms;
- Roblox Community Standards;
- Roblox Privacy and Cookie Policy;
- Roblox content-maturity provisions;
- Roblox Subscription Terms;
- regional supplemental provisions for the user’s location;
- Roblox gift-card terms and redemption FAQ; and
- Roblox creator moderation, safety, parental-control, and DevEx documentation where relevant.
Reading only the headline Terms can leave out the rule that answers the actual question. The incorporated document, purchase channel, account type, creator feature, and user’s location may all matter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Roblox Terms of Use a legally binding contract?
Yes. Roblox presents the Terms as a legally binding agreement. Adults agree for themselves, while a parent or legal guardian must read and consent before a minor uses the Services. The exact age and legal effect can depend on the user’s jurisdiction and applicable regional provisions.
Do I own my Robux and Roblox virtual items?
Generally, no. The Terms describe Robux and virtual content as platform-governed licenses or access rights rather than ordinary property. Robux generally cannot be redeemed for cash, and virtual content is intended for use on Roblox and personal entertainment.
Can Roblox purchases be refunded?
Generally, Robux payments are final and non-refundable except where required by law. Gift cards and subscriptions may have separate terms, and the purchase channel and user’s location can affect available rights.
Can every Roblox gift card be used for Roblox Credit or Premium?
Not necessarily. Roblox’s official FAQ says Amazon Gift Cards and Party Pack Gift Cards are redeemable for Robux only and cannot be redeemed for Roblox Credit. Roblox also says Amazon-purchased digital cards cannot be used toward a Premium subscription.
Can a Roblox Experience creator override Roblox’s Community Standards?
No. Experience creators may publish additional rules, but those rules cannot conflict with Roblox’s Terms, Community Standards, or other applicable Roblox terms.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Roblox Terms of Use are a platform contract supported by conduct, privacy, subscription, creator, moderation, and regional rules. Users generally receive access and limited licenses rather than ordinary ownership of Robux or virtual content. Community Standards violations can affect both content and account access, creators face additional publishing and monetization obligations, and U.S. users face separate arbitration and class-waiver provisions. Always check the current effective date and the rules for the relevant country, product, or feature.
