Short answer: Roblox Tix (short for Tickets) were a free-to-earn virtual currency that existed alongside Robux. Roblox announced their retirement in March 2016 and made them unusable on April 14, 2016—not in 2021. There was no confirmed platform-wide Tix revival in 2021, and Tix remain discontinued as of August 18, 2026.
What were Roblox Tix?
Tix were Roblox’s former “Tickets” currency, introduced in 2007. They operated separately from Robux and could generally be earned through participation rather than direct payment. Players used Tix for selected avatar and marketplace purchases, Roblox advertising, and exchanges through the former RoblEX system.
Tix were not free Robux. They had different earning methods, prices, and exchange values. Their importance came from giving players a way to build a balance without buying Robux directly.
The historical introduction date recorded by the Roblox Wiki is August 2, 2007: Roblox Wiki’s Ticket history.

How did players earn Tix?
The rules changed during Tix’s lifespan, so no single list applied unchanged from 2007 to 2016. The best-known mechanisms were:
- Daily login bonus: A documented system awarded 10 Tix per day.
- Place visits: Developers could receive Tix when users visited their experiences; one Tix per visit is documented for the relevant period.
- Clothing sales: Some creator sales generated Tix under the older economy.
- Ambassador activities: Certain external-link activities could award Tix.
- Currency exchange: Users could trade between Tix and Robux through RoblEX.
Because these systems were revised over time, a remembered earning rate or exchange ratio should not be treated as universal. Historical ratios varied rather than staying at one permanent rate.
What could Tix buy?
- Selected avatar and marketplace items: Some catalog items were priced in Tix.
- Advertising: Tix could be spent on Roblox advertising.
- Robux conversion: RoblEX allowed exchange between the two currencies, subject to the rate and rules in effect at the time.
This made Tix part of Roblox’s early free-to-play economy: activity could produce a platform balance that was useful beyond a single game.
Why did Roblox remove Tix?
Roblox’s stated rationale
The historical explanation associated with Roblox focused on simplifying the economy, reducing confusion for new users, addressing botting and abuse, and removing incentives for undesirable behavior. The overview and stated rationale are summarized in the Roblox Wiki’s Ticket article.

Botting and farming problems
Tix also created incentives for multiple-account farming, artificial place visits, and attempts to turn automatically generated Tix into Robux. Those detailed descriptions are widely preserved in community documentation; they should not be read as a single, separately verified Roblox quotation.
What is not established
Some former players say Roblox removed Tix solely to push people toward buying Robux. That is a community theory, not an established official explanation. The available historical account supports a combination of economy simplification, abuse concerns, and incentive problems rather than one confirmed revenue-only motive.
When exactly were Tix removed?
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| March 15, 2016 | Roblox announced that Tickets would be discontinued the following month. |
| March 15–April 14, 2016 | The commemorative Tixapalooza period took place. |
| April 14, 2016 | Tickets stopped functioning and were removed. A contemporaneous Developer Forum post records this date: “RIP Tix, pay respects”. |
| 2021 | No platform-wide Tix return occurred. Remaining software references were not an active currency. |
| August 18, 2026 | Tix remain discontinued; current Roblox materials identify Robux as the platform’s currency. |
Some secondary pages describe the transition as April 15, 2016, usually because they refer to the following day or the post-removal state. The strongest contemporaneous record identifies April 14 as the date Tickets became unusable. A later Developer Forum discussion also identifies April 14 for Tix-related removals: Developer Forum discussion.
Did Tix come back in 2021?
No. Roblox did not restore Tix as a second, platform-wide currency in 2021. The date appears to come from later discussion about old client assets and from articles asking whether the currency might return, not from an actual relaunch.

A Tix icon or code reference remaining in client files was only a software artifact. Its presence did not create balances, prices, earning systems, or a working exchange. The Roblox Wiki records that some Tix-related references persisted until July 2021, but that was not a reintroduction: Ticket history.
Why did rumors persist?
- Older players wanted the free-to-play economy back.
- Images and unused references remained in parts of Roblox software.
- Fan-made games reused the Tix name.
- Community posts periodically proposed a return, including a 2019 Developer Forum discussion: “Tix as a return”.
None of those signals constitutes an official announcement.
Are Tix coming back now?
There is no verified official announcement that Tix are returning. Roblox’s current Terms of Use describe Robux as the relevant platform currency and do not establish Tix as active. Roblox’s corporate news archive likewise does not provide a confirmed Tix relaunch: Roblox investor news.
That does not prove an impossible “never”; it means there is no confirmed return to report. Experience-specific currencies, promotional rewards, and marketplace events are separate systems and are not a replacement for a platform-wide Tix balance.

Tix games and simulators: are their rewards real?
A Roblox experience can name its internal currency “Tix,” but that currency exists only inside that experience. It cannot be transferred to the Roblox website, exchanged for Robux, or added to another game.
The official listing for the fan-made Tix Simulator explicitly warns that it is only a simulator and provides no real website currency, hats, or other Roblox rewards. Its in-game counter is not evidence that Roblox restored Tickets.
Warning signs of fake Tix offers
Any site, video, generator, survey, browser extension, download, or game promising real Tix in exchange for your login or account credentials should be treated as suspicious. No simulator or third-party service can restore platform-wide Tix. Do not provide a Roblox password, authentication code, or cookie to claim them.

Roblox’s current economy is centered on Robux. Official events, marketplace promotions, and creator-made rewards may appear at different times, but their availability and terms must be checked when offered. An experience’s private currency is usable only within that experience and should not be described as a Tix replacement.
