Roblox announced on May 2, 2025, that it had broken ground on a data center in São Paulo, Brazil, with an original early-2026 launch target. That timeline is now outdated: at Roblox Developers Conference on September 5, 2025, Roblox said the facility was fully live and serving traffic.
The project is intended to reduce network latency and improve responsiveness for Brazilian players and creators. It does not mean every Roblox session uses a São Paulo server, nor does it guarantee higher frame rates.
What Roblox announced in May 2025
At gamescom latam on May 2, 2025, Roblox said it had broken ground on a new Brazilian data center in São Paulo. The company originally expected the site to go live in early 2026 and said it would improve performance and reduce latency for users throughout Brazil. The announcement is documented in Roblox’s Developer Forum post.
Contemporary coverage from VentureBeat described Brazil as one of Roblox’s most important markets at the time. The public announcement identified São Paulo as the location but did not disclose an exact address, operator, contractor, capacity, or hardware configuration.

The current status: live since September 2025
The early-2026 date was a target, not the final operating date. In its September 5, 2025 RDC 2025 announcement, Roblox said the São Paulo data center was “fully live and serving traffic.” That makes the current story a completed infrastructure milestone: Roblox broke ground in May and reported the facility operational months before the original schedule.
Roblox’s statement establishes that the facility was serving traffic by that announcement. It does not publish a formal commissioning record, traffic volume, or before-and-after latency measurements.
What a nearby Roblox data center can improve
A server closer to a player generally shortens the network route between the player and the game instance. That can improve responsiveness, but several different measurements matter:

- Latency or ping: the round-trip time for data to reach the server and return.
- Jitter: variation in latency, which can make movement or combat feel inconsistent.
- Packet loss: missing network traffic that can cause rubber-banding, delayed actions, or disconnects.
- Loading and handshakes: some connections may establish faster when traffic takes a shorter route.
Roblox said the São Paulo facility should bring lower latency, reduced jitter, faster loading, and better performance for high-fidelity or high-performance experiences. Those are expected network benefits, not a published guarantee of a particular ping.
What it will not fix
- Low FPS: frame rate is mainly determined by the phone, PC, console, graphics settings, and rendering workload.
- Bad home networking: Wi-Fi interference, an overloaded router, or a congested local connection can remain the bottleneck.
- Poor game code: inefficient scripts, excessive physics, or an overloaded game server can cause slowdown even when the network route is short.
- Every route in Brazil: users far from São Paulo or on inefficient ISP paths may see smaller gains.
Does every Brazilian player get a São Paulo server?
No. Roblox does not promise that every Brazilian player, or every experience, will run in São Paulo. Its infrastructure and matchmaking systems use geographic location along with other factors, including social graph, language, and age group. Capacity, experience configuration, and routing can also affect the selected facility. Roblox describes these factors in its 2025 annual filing.
As a result, Brazilian players may see better ping in some experiences and sessions without seeing a universal change across Roblox. The facility is not a player-facing promise that a “Brazil server” can be selected manually.

Why São Paulo matters—and where its benefits may vary
São Paulo is a logical regional hub for serving Brazil’s large Roblox audience, especially users in the southeast. Brazil’s size means the same facility will not provide identical routes for everyone: players in the north, northeast, or far south may still travel significant distances to São Paulo, while ISP peering can make one provider perform differently from another.
Neighboring countries should not be assumed to receive the same benefit. The public announcements identify a São Paulo facility serving Roblox’s Brazilian operation; they do not promise uniform coverage for all of South America.

Roblox has described a distributed model rather than one giant site. Its engineering overview says the company operates regional physical edge data centers for game-serving workloads, larger core facilities for centralized services, a private backbone connecting locations, and virtual cloud edge capacity for demand spikes. Roblox said it managed 24 physical edge data centers worldwide in 2025 and planned new facilities years ahead as part of capacity planning. See Roblox’s infrastructure overview.

The 2025 annual filing says Roblox Cloud used more than 150,000 servers as of December 31, 2025, and lists Brazil among countries where the company operated data centers under lease arrangements. That supports Brazilian operational presence but does not identify São Paulo’s owner, colocation provider, power capacity, floor area, or server count.

For creators whose audiences are concentrated in Brazil, a closer regional edge can make fast multiplayer interactions feel more responsive. Combat, racing, movement-heavy, physics-driven, and competitive experiences are the most obvious cases where latency and jitter are noticeable.
Roblox also said the facility could support creator tooling and help creators grow their Brazilian player base. That is an infrastructure opportunity, not a guarantee of audience growth. There is no public evidence of a creator control that lets developers force an experience onto the São Paulo facility.

What remains undisclosed
Public sources do not establish the following details:
- the exact physical address;
- the owner, colocation provider, or construction contractor;
- power capacity, floor area, cooling design, or renewable-energy arrangements;
- the number or type of servers installed;
- capital expenditure or exact Brazilian user coverage;
- median latency before and after launch;
- whether São Paulo is Brazil’s only Roblox facility; or
- whether the site handles only game instances or also selected centralized services.
“Broke ground” also does not prove that Roblox owns a standalone building. The company’s filing refers to leased data-center operations, while the announcement does not specify whether this deployment is owned, leased, or colocated.
How players can interpret the change
- Compare ping and connection stability in the same experience at different times; results can vary with matchmaking and ISP routing.
- Separate network symptoms—rubber-banding, delayed actions, and disconnects—from rendering symptoms such as low FPS or stutter.
- Do not treat one session outside São Paulo as evidence that the facility is unavailable; Roblox does not guarantee a particular facility for every match.
- Expect the largest practical difference in latency-sensitive multiplayer, not automatically in graphics quality.
Bottom line
The accurate current headline is not “Roblox plans a Brazil data center for early 2026.” Roblox announced and broke ground on the São Paulo facility on May 2, 2025, then said it was fully live and serving traffic by September 5, 2025. It should improve network responsiveness for some Brazilian players and creators, while the size of the benefit depends on location, ISP routing, matchmaking, game architecture, and device performance.
