If Rocket League will not launch from Epic Games, do not reinstall it immediately. The failure may be caused by Epic Games Launcher, corrupted installation files, damaged local Rocket League data, mods or overlays, OneDrive, permissions, graphics drivers, or an online service problem.
Use this order: check service status, fully restart Epic Games Launcher, disable mods and overlays, verify the game files, clear Rocket League’s cache, rename its local Documents folder, then check drivers and permissions. Reinstall only after those steps.

First, identify what “not launching” means
These symptoms point to different troubleshooting paths:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Epic Games Launcher will not open: troubleshoot the launcher, its cache, permissions, or security software.
- Clicking Launch does nothing: check launcher state, overlays, mods, permissions, and local game data.
- Epic shows Running, then returns to Launch: verify files, reset Rocket League’s local folder, and test without background software.
- The game opens to a black screen and closes: reset video settings, update the graphics driver, and disable overlays.
- Runtime or NTDLL error: clear Rocket League’s local cache, then reset its Documents folder if necessary.
- Epic says Rocket League is not installed: check the signed-in account, installation drive, Library state, and launcher cache before deleting anything.
- The game reaches the menu but cannot connect: this is an online-services problem rather than a Windows launch failure.
1. Check for an Epic or Rocket League outage
Before changing files, check the Epic Games Public Status page and the Rocket League Known Issues page. Epic reports launcher, login, Rocket League, matchmaking, and other services separately.

An outage or degraded service cannot be repaired by verifying files or reinstalling the game. The Known Issues page can confirm an acknowledged Rocket League defect, but it is not a complete list of every local launch problem.
Status changes over time. For example, Epic’s public status page showed Rocket League operational on August 18, 2026, while the Epic Games Store had degraded download and installation performance. Treat the live status page—not an older report—as authoritative.
2. Try the safe, reversible fixes first
Fully exit Epic Games Launcher
- Close Rocket League.
- In the Windows notification area, select the upward arrow.
- Right-click the Epic Games icon.
- Select Exit.
- Open Epic Games Launcher again and try Rocket League.
Closing the window may leave launcher processes running. If the launcher is still stuck, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and end remaining Epic Games Launcher processes and any Rocket League process. Process names can vary by launcher version, so close only clearly related processes.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Restart Windows as well, particularly if the game crashed, Windows updated, or Epic remains stuck on “Running.”
Disable mods, overlays, and background applications
Temporarily close BakkesMod and other Rocket League mods, Discord overlay, NVIDIA or AMD overlays, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, capture tools, RGB utilities, hardware monitors, macro tools, and third-party antivirus game-mode or application-control features.
These programs can inject overlays, hook the game process, or block executable activity. That makes them plausible causes, not proof that any particular application is defective. If Rocket League launches after a clean-boot or selective-startup test, re-enable applications one at a time to identify the conflict.
Confirm the installation drive is available
If Rocket League is installed on an external or secondary drive, confirm that the drive is connected and has the same drive letter. Also confirm that the correct Epic account is signed in and that Rocket League appears in the Library as installed.
3. Verify Rocket League’s files
Verification is the best first repair when the game briefly runs, closes immediately, or may contain damaged or mismatched installation files.

- Open Epic Games Launcher.
- Open Library.
- Find Rocket League.
- Select the three dots beside the game.
- Select Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Wait for validation and any repairs to finish.
- Launch Rocket League again.
According to Epic’s verification guidance, verification checks for corrupted or different files and repairs them without affecting saved data. Do not interrupt the process; it may take time and may download replacement files.
Verification checks the installed game files only. It will not repair a damaged Windows profile, graphics driver, third-party overlay, launcher cache, or Rocket League configuration folder. If Verify is unavailable because Epic cannot identify the installation, investigate the installation path and launcher state rather than immediately deleting the game directory.
4. Delete Rocket League’s local cache
For Runtime or NTDLL errors, or when the game closes during startup, clear Rocket League’s local cache:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Close Rocket League.
- Open File Explorer and select your actual Documents folder.
- Open My Games, then Rocket League, then TAGame.
- Right-click Cache and select Delete.
- Launch Rocket League.
Psyonix and Epic identify a corrupt cache or local save-related file as a possible cause of Runtime and NTDLL startup errors, including after a forced close, crash, or mod-related change. See the official cache troubleshooting instructions.
Do not confuse this folder with the Epic Games Launcher cache below. If your Documents folder is redirected to OneDrive, use the location shown by File Explorer rather than assuming it is under C:Users<name>Documents.
5. Reset Rocket League’s local configuration
If verification succeeds and deleting TAGameCache does not help, create a fresh Rocket League Documents folder:
- Close Rocket League.
- Open File Explorer and go to
DocumentsMy Games. - Right-click the Rocket League folder.
- Select Rename.
- Rename it to
Rocket League Old. - Launch Rocket League.
Rocket League should recreate the folder. This tests whether a damaged local configuration or save-related file is preventing startup. Renaming is safer than deleting because the original remains available for recovery.

This can reset local settings and may affect locally stored configuration or save data. Do not permanently delete Rocket League Old until the game works and you have checked whether you need anything from it. Restore old files selectively rather than copying the entire old folder back at once.

These steps are documented in Epic’s Rocket League folder reset guidance.
6. Clear the Epic Games Launcher cache
Use this when the launcher interface, Library, installation state, or launch metadata behaves incorrectly. Fully exit the launcher first, including from the notification area.
- Press
Windows + R. - Enter

Follow Epic’s launcher cache instructions. Deleting the wrong folder can waste time or remove local data unnecessarily.

Update the graphics driver
Install a current, stable driver from your GPU manufacturer. Rocket League’s PC troubleshooting guidance specifically recommends current graphics drivers and checking that DirectX 11 is being used. A driver update can help after a game, Windows, or driver change, although a newly released driver can occasionally introduce a separate issue.
Check system requirements
Rocket League’s support page currently lists these requirements:
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 64-bit or newer 64-bit Windows | Windows 7 64-bit or newer 64-bit Windows |
| CPU | 2.5 GHz dual-core | 3.0+ GHz quad-core |

| Storage | 20 GB available | 20 GB available |
| Network | Broadband internet connection | Broadband internet connection |
See the official Rocket League requirements. The page lists Windows 7, but that does not prove that every current Epic Games Launcher component supports Windows 7. Use a currently supported Windows version where possible.
Test administrator permissions
- Exit Epic Games Launcher completely.
- Right-click its shortcut.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Launch Rocket League.
This is a diagnostic test, not a preferred permanent configuration. If the game works only with elevated permissions, investigate folder permissions, Windows Controlled Folder Access, security software, or an improperly installed launcher.
Use compatibility settings only for relevant symptoms
Epic documents disabling fullscreen optimization through the launcher executable’s Properties > Compatibility tab. Fully close the launcher, locate its executable, enable Disable fullscreen optimizations, select Apply, then test again.

8. Check OneDrive and the Documents folder
Rocket League stores important local data under Documents. Epic’s PC troubleshooting guidance specifically includes disabling OneDrive when it causes stuttering or Easy Anti-Cheat hangs. Documents synchronization can also complicate access to the local Rocket League folder.
Check whether DocumentsMy GamesRocket League is being redirected, held offline, or continuously synchronized. Locate Documents through File Explorer because its physical location may be under OneDrive.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTemporarily pause synchronization for testing, make a backup first, and do not delete the OneDrive copy. If the game works after synchronization is paused, determine which Documents location Windows and Rocket League are using before changing the folder permanently.

- Check the Epic status page.
- End remaining Epic processes in Task Manager.
- Clear the Epic launcher

- Update Windows and graphics drivers.
- Temporarily disable security and overlay software.
- Reinstall the launcher only as a last resort.
Epic warns that reinstalling the launcher can remove installed titles, so review its current guidance before proceeding: Epic Games Launcher troubleshooting.

LS-0013 or a similar Epic launch error
LS-0013 does not identify one universal cause. Verify files, restart the launcher, disable mods and overlays, check permissions and security software, and reset Rocket League’s local folder before considering a reinstall. Reinstalling may help a damaged installation, but it will not fix an outage, a broken Windows environment, or a launcher-wide problem.
Epic cannot find the installed game
Do not immediately delete the game directory. Confirm the correct Epic account, check Library filters, reconnect the installation drive, restart the launcher, and determine whether Rocket League appears as installed or only as available to install. If the installation state remains wrong, use Epic’s launcher support rather than creating another installation over the existing files.
The game launches but online play fails
This is separate from an executable that will not open. Check the Epic status page for Rocket League services, Epic login, matchmaking, parties and friends, and Epic Online Services. If the game reaches the main menu, local file verification is unlikely to resolve a service outage.
10. Reinstall only after isolating the problem
Reinstallation is reasonable when verification cannot repair the installation, the game files remain damaged, or Rocket League alone fails after the local-data reset. It is not a good first step because verification, cache clearing, and renaming the local folder address several common causes without downloading the entire game.
Before reinstalling:
- Back up or rename
DocumentsMy GamesRocket League. - Record the exact error message or code.
- Confirm whether other Epic games launch.
- Confirm that Epic recognizes Rocket League’s installation correctly.
- Verify the files first.
If reinstalling Rocket League does not help and other Epic games also fail, the likely problem is broader: Epic Games Launcher, the Windows account, security software, drivers, or system configuration. Reinstalling Rocket League again will not address those causes.
11. When to contact support
Contact Epic or Rocket League support after the status checks and local troubleshooting steps fail. Include:
- The exact error code and wording.
- Your Windows version.
- GPU model and driver version.
- Whether other Epic games launch.
- Whether file verification completed and repaired anything.
- Whether renaming the Rocket League folder changed the behavior.
- Whether mods, overlays, OneDrive, and security software were disabled for testing.
- Relevant launcher or game logs if support requests them.
Avoid random DLL downloads, registry cleaners, cracked executables, and unverified launch arguments. They can introduce security risks and make the original failure harder to diagnose.
