Others use one directional bind, regular Air Roll, or a combination. Public examples show that pros do not share one universal layout, and the available evidence does not establish a current majority or prove that binding both produces better results.
What the public evidence actually shows
Air Roll Left and Air Roll Right are controller bindings, not mandatory abilities with one accepted professional configuration. The examples available from player profiles, interviews and community discussions point in several directions. That makes the useful question less “Which bind do pros use?” and more “Which arrangement gives me reliable access to the roll input while I keep control of jump, boost, steering and powerslide?”

There is no representative, dated survey of current professional players that supports a percentage for one-bind or two-bind usage. Individual settings pages and forum comments can prove that a configuration exists; they cannot show how common it is across the professional scene. Treat every named setup as an example rather than a census.
Kaydop’s published profile is a one-player example
A Kaydop settings profile on TheGlobalGaming lists regular Air Roll and Powerslide on LB, with Air Roll Left and Air Roll Right unbound. The page’s current crawl does not state a verification date, so the information may be stale. It still demonstrates an important point: a highly successful player’s documented layout does not require either directional bind.

Miztik described both directions conditionally
In an RLCD.gg interview published on February 24, 2018, professional player Miztik was asked about adding controller buttons. His answer was: If I did it would be Air Roll left/right on the top buttons.
The wording matters. He was describing what he would choose if he used those additional buttons, not confirming that he had both directional commands bound in competition. It is evidence that the idea was considered by a pro, not proof of his actual tournament setup or of a scene-wide trend.
Community reports show variety, not a count
Discussions on the RocketLeagueEsports community forum describe players using one directional air roll, both directions, regular Air Roll, or combinations. Threads from January 2, 2021, August 7, 2025, and September 29, 2020, are useful for showing the range of arrangements people observe and discuss. They are anecdotal reports, however, and do not establish what most current professionals use.
What “one” and “both” directional binds mean
A directional air-roll bind tells the car to roll around a fixed direction while the button is held. With one bind, you have one dedicated fixed-direction input. With two binds, you can choose the left-directed or right-directed input directly. Regular Air Roll is a separate reported approach in which the roll input is not permanently fixed to one direction in the same way.

Players can also combine regular Air Roll with one or both directional commands. The practical difference is not a guaranteed performance tier; it is the number and type of inputs available to your hands. More commands can offer more choice, but they also require more buttons and more time to become automatic.
| Configuration | What it gives you | What the evidence supports | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Air Roll only | A non-directional roll command, often shared with another control in a player’s layout | Kaydop’s published profile lists regular Air Roll and Powerslide on LB while leaving both directional commands unbound | Fewer dedicated directional commands to remember; exact effectiveness depends on the player’s technique and placement |
| One directional bind | One fixed leftward or rightward roll input | Community discussions and professional-player reports describe players choosing one direction | Requires learning one directional input and fitting it beside the rest of the layout |
| Both directional binds | Direct access to fixed leftward and rightward roll inputs | Community reports mention players using both; Miztik discussed putting left/right on additional top buttons conditionally | A secondary settings guide says this can provide more control but is significantly harder to learn than one directional bind; that is advice, not a measured result |
| Combination layout | Regular Air Roll plus one or two directional commands | Community discussions describe mixed arrangements | Offers more input choices while increasing the number of bindings your fingers must reach consistently |
Does binding both make you better?
No public evidence in the material available here demonstrates a universal advantage for two directional binds. The Gamers Decide settings guide presents a trade-off: two directional buttons may give a player more control over the car overall, but are significantly harder to learn than one directional Air Roll. That statement is a guide’s recommendation, not the result of a controlled comparison, ranked analysis or professional survey.
“More control” should therefore be read as more direct input choices, not as a guaranteed increase in mechanical skill. A second button cannot automatically supply timing, aerial awareness or consistency. If reaching it forces an awkward finger movement or makes boost and jump less reliable, the theoretical choice may not help your actual play.

The same caution applies in the other direction. A one-direction setup is not evidence of a limitation that prevents high-level play. Kaydop’s profile is a documented counterexample to the assumption that every elite player needs both commands. The available sources support multiple successful approaches, not a ranking of them.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to choose a layout for your own controller
1. Start with the controls you already execute reliably
List the buttons you use for jump, boost, powerslide, regular Air Roll, directional air roll, steering and camera functions. The goal is to hold or press the roll command without losing the inputs that matter during takeoff and aerial corrections. A layout that looks efficient on paper is not useful if your thumb or finger has to leave a critical control at the wrong moment.
2. Decide whether you need one fixed direction or two
Choose one directional bind if you want a single fixed input to learn and can perform the movements you practice with it. Consider both directions if you repeatedly find yourself wanting the opposite fixed input and can place the second command where it is reachable without contorting your hand. Regular Air Roll remains a valid choice if that is the control you already understand and use comfortably.

3. Check button access under simultaneous inputs
Test the roll command while holding boost, jumping, steering and powerslide in the combinations you actually use. The source discussions describe different placements rather than a universal best location. Your hand size, controller shape and grip determine whether a placement is comfortable. No controller model is shown by these sources to be required for any of the configurations.
4. Change one variable at a time
If you are moving from regular Air Roll to one directional bind, keep the rest of your controls unchanged while you learn. If you later add the second direction, do not also rearrange jump, boost and camera controls in the same session. Isolating the change makes it easier to tell whether a problem comes from the new roll command or from the broader layout.

Use the same basic aerial and recovery drills across several sessions and note whether you can reach the intended button without hesitation. Early mistakes are expected when learning a new command; the useful test is whether the input becomes dependable with practice. A setup that feels impressive for a few minutes but disrupts routine touches is not automatically an upgrade.

6. Keep the arrangement that protects your essential controls
If adding a second directional bind compromises boost, jump, steering or powerslide access, remove it or move it. The evidence does not show that copying a pro’s exact placement is necessary. Comfort and repeatability are the practical criteria supported by the player discussions, while claims about one arrangement being objectively superior remain unproven.

Settings pages are snapshots
A published profile records one player’s choices at one point in time. It may be outdated, incomplete or changed after publication. Kaydop’s profile is specifically useful because it documents regular Air Roll and no directional binds, but it should not be treated as a current roster-wide standard.
Interviews can describe intentions rather than use
Miztik’s 2018 answer is explicitly hypothetical. When a player says what they would put on extra buttons, that does not tell you which controls they used in matches, whether the layout was later changed, or whether the same arrangement suits another player.

Community posts can reveal that people have seen or use a particular setup. They generally do not define the sample, verify every player’s current binds or distinguish professional competition from ranked play. Use them to identify plausible options, not to claim that one option is the majority.
Common mistakes when deciding between left and right
- Assuming “pro” means “standard.” The documented examples conflict with that assumption: some reports describe one direction or both, while Kaydop’s profile leaves both unbound.
- Treating a guide’s advice as measured proof. The claim that two binds offer more control and are harder to learn comes from a secondary guide, not a controlled study.
- Copying a button without checking hand access. A bind only helps if you can press it alongside the controls your play requires.
- Using an old profile as a current census. The Kaydop page does not provide a verification date, and an individual page cannot establish present-day professional usage.
- Buying hardware to solve a layout problem. The available evidence identifies no controller model as necessary and provides no hardware-performance comparison.
- Changing everything at once. Multiple simultaneous changes make it difficult to identify which control caused a new error.
What can safely be concluded
Both directional binds are used by at least some players described in professional or competitive discussions. One directional bind, regular Air Roll and mixed layouts are also reported. The public material does not support a reliable statement that most pros use both, most pros use one, or that either arrangement is universally better.
For a player choosing today, the defensible process is practical rather than imitative: select the commands you can reach alongside your essential controls, learn one change at a time, and keep the configuration that becomes repeatable. Pro settings can widen your list of possibilities, but they cannot decide your hand placement or prove a mechanical advantage for you.
