ASUS announced that preorders in selected markets would open at 2:00 a.m. CEST on September 26, 2025; Xbox said they would start that day. Both handhelds launched on October 16, 2025, so the preorder date is historical, not an upcoming event.
When did ROG Xbox Ally preorders start?
ASUS announced a September 26, 2025 preorder start at 2:00 a.m. CEST in selected markets. Xbox’s September 25 announcement likewise said preorders would be available starting that day. The devices went on sale October 16, 2025, according to Xbox’s August 2025 feature announcement and its October 16 launch announcement.
The August date in the original headline was an expectation, not the official preorder date. ASUS’s announcement listed selected markets including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK and the US, among others. Its notice said the standard Ally was the model available for preorder in New Zealand at that time, while Switzerland’s notice listed the Ally X only. Xbox published a different market list; availability varied by market and announcement, so neither list should be treated as a current worldwide availability guide. See ASUS’s preorder announcement and Xbox’s preorder announcement.
What were the announced US prices?
Xbox gave historical US estimated retail prices of $599.99 for ROG Xbox Ally and $999.99 for ROG Xbox Ally X when it announced preorders. Those were US estimates at announcement, not current prices or universal prices; Xbox said exact prices would be announced by region as preorders opened. Check local retailers or official product pages for present-day stock and pricing.

What can you play on the handhelds?
ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X are Windows handheld gaming PCs developed by ASUS ROG with Xbox. Xbox described an Xbox full-screen experience, a dedicated Xbox button and Game Bar, and a library interface that can bring together installed games from Xbox, Battle.net and other leading PC stores, along with Game Pass where available.
A combined library is not a guarantee that every game will run well or be compatible. Xbox’s Handheld Compatibility Program is intended to help identify games that work well on supported handhelds; check a game’s current compatibility information before assuming it will play as expected.
