A 2025 leak claimed that ASUS’s ROG Xbox Ally would cost $549.99 in the US, while the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X would cost $899.99. The figures were close, but not exact: ASUS’s later US listings show prices of $599.99 and $999.99, respectively.
The products are no longer upcoming. ASUS and Microsoft launched the Windows gaming handhelds on October 16, 2025. The original report remains useful as an archived launch-price leak, but it should not be mistaken for the current official pricing.

The leaked and official prices
| Model | Leaked US price | Official ASUS US price | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| ROG Xbox Ally | $549.99 | $599.99 | +$50 |
| ROG Xbox Ally X | $899.99 | $999.99 | +$100 |
The alleged prices came from deal and product leaker billbil-kun, whose figures were reported on August 20, 2025. They were presented as claimed retail prices, not confirmed manufacturer pricing. At the time, neither ASUS nor Microsoft had published official US prices.
The leak was directionally accurate and broadly matched earlier European price indications of €599 for the ROG Xbox Ally and €899 for the Ally X. However, the exact US numbers were wrong. ASUS’s later product listings put the two models $400 apart, compared with the leaked $350 gap.

What was known when the leak appeared?
ASUS and Microsoft had revealed two Xbox-branded handheld gaming PCs and announced a broad Holiday 2025 release window. Both devices run Windows 11 Home, include a dedicated Xbox button, and are built around an Xbox-focused interface intended to make Windows handheld gaming feel more console-like.
Microsoft’s Xbox integration does not make these standalone Xbox consoles. ASUS manufactures the hardware, and users can still install PC games and launchers from services such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net.

The Ally X’s extra $400 buys a higher-end processor, 8GB more memory, twice the standard storage, a larger battery, and USB4 connectivity. Those specifications give it more headroom for demanding PC games and multitasking, but they do not establish a universal frame-rate advantage. Actual performance depends on the game, drivers, graphics settings, resolution, and power mode.

Both models use the same size and resolution display. A 120Hz panel can show refresh rates up to 120Hz, but it does not mean every game will run at 120 frames per second.

What does “Xbox” mean on these handhelds?
The Xbox branding refers primarily to software integration. Features include:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Xbox full-screen mode and a dedicated Xbox button
- Xbox Game Bar access
- Aggregated access to installed game libraries
- Xbox Remote Play
- Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Xbox Play Anywhere support for eligible games
The current Xbox product page also advertises three months of Xbox Game Pass Premium with either handheld. This is a promotional subscription benefit, not permanent free access. Eligibility requirements, payment requirements, automatic renewal, regional availability, and the included game library can vary, so buyers should check the offer’s terms before claiming it.

Cloud gaming requires a supported device and an eligible subscription. Not every Xbox game necessarily works identically on a Windows handheld: compatibility can depend on the game, launcher, anti-cheat system, and whether the title supports the relevant Xbox or PC feature.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which ROG Xbox Ally should you buy?
Choose the standard ROG Xbox Ally if:
- You want the lower-cost entry into the ASUS/Xbox handheld ecosystem.
- You mainly play indie games, older PC titles, streamed games, or Game Pass games.
- 512GB is enough for your current library, or you are comfortable upgrading storage.
- You value the same 7-inch 1080p/120Hz display without paying for the premium internals.
Choose the Ally X if:
- You want the stronger processor and additional memory for demanding PC games.
- The 1TB SSD is important because you plan to install a large library.
- You value the larger 80Wh battery, while recognizing that capacity does not guarantee a particular runtime.
- You expect to use USB4 expansion or want more hardware headroom over several years.
Neither model is automatically the better value. The standard Ally is the more accessible option, while the Ally X is aimed at buyers willing to spend $999.99 for higher-end specifications. Existing Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, and other Windows handheld owners should compare operating-system preferences, current discounts, game compatibility, and battery expectations rather than assuming Xbox branding alone justifies an upgrade.
Remember the total cost
The hardware price does not include every possible expense. Storage upgrades, chargers, docks, games, subscriptions, and protective accessories can increase the final cost. ASUS lists a ROG Xbox Ally Premium Case at $69.99, although it is optional and unnecessary for buyers who already have suitable protection.

The Xbox product page notes that displayed retailer prices may be estimates, so ASUS’s current product pages are the better reference for the official price signal while individual retailers may discount or bundle either model.
Pricing verdict
The 2025 leak was a useful indication of the eventual price range, but it was not an exact confirmation. It claimed $549.99 for the ROG Xbox Ally and $899.99 for the Ally X; ASUS ultimately listed them at $599.99 and $999.99 in the US. For anyone deciding whether to buy one now, the official ASUS prices—not the archived leak—are the figures that matter.
