By Metacritic’s all-time roguelike-tagged ranking, Hades leads the clearly dated entries covered here at 93/100, while the newer Hades II has a separately reported all-platform score of 95/100. These are critic-review aggregates, not a permanent or objective verdict: scores can change, and platform-specific results differ.
What are the highest-rated roguelike games?
The clearest comparison is Metacritic’s all-time roguelike-tagged Metascore ranking. Its retrieved results list Hades at 93, Caves of Qud at 91, Rogue Legacy 2 at 88, and Rogue Legacy at 85. Metacritic says the ranking excludes games with fewer than seven critic reviews.
Hades II belongs in the conversation, but its score should be kept distinct from those ranking entries: its standalone Metacritic page, retrieved October 8, 2026, reports an all-platform Metascore of 95 from 54 critic reviews. Its PC page reports 94 from 50 reviews. Aggregates reflect the pages and review counts available at retrieval, so they are snapshots rather than fixed ratings.

Among the figures available here, Hades II has the highest separately verified score: 95 across platforms, based on 54 critic reviews on its Metacritic page retrieved October 8, 2026. That does not make it directly interchangeable with the older tagged-ranking results: the ranking is a separate view, and aggregate scores can change over time. For the named games in that tagged list, Hades is highest at 93.

How to read the rankings
- Check the platform. Hades II scores 95 across platforms and 94 on its PC page; those scores use different review pools.
- Check the review count. A Metascore is an aggregate of critic reviews, not a user rating. The ranking’s stated seven-review minimum means games below that threshold are excluded.
- Use the ranking’s genre boundary. Metacritic’s tags are not a universal genre definition: it labels Hades an action RPG and Rogue Legacy rogue-lite, while placing both in the roguelike-tagged ranking.
- Do not treat small score gaps as a fit guide. These figures compare review aggregates; they do not establish which game best matches an individual player’s preferred style.
