“rooksbas_x64.dll was not found” and “rooksbas_x64.dll could not be loaded” usually point to a damaged application installation, not a missing Windows file. When rooksbas_x64.dll appears in a Roblox or game crash report, the more likely problem is a conflict with IBM Trusteer Rapport.
The 60-second answer
rooksbas_x64.dll is a 64-bit component of IBM Trusteer Rapport, also documented as IBM Security Trusteer Endpoint Protection. Its internal component description is commonly shown as Rooks/Base, and a typical installation path is:

The x64 suffix identifies the DLL as 64-bit. The parent folder may still be under Program Files (x86) because Rapport’s installation layout is not a reliable indication that the entire product is 32-bit.
Why Roblox and other applications mention this DLL
Rapport is security software designed to protect browsing and online transactions. It can interact with other applications, and that interaction can cause compatibility problems even when the file itself is legitimate.
For example, Microsoft crash reports have identified this path when Roblox reports “crashed because of incompatible software”:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteProgram Files (x86)TrusteerRapportbinx64rooksbas_x64.dll
Similar reports have involved SkypeBridge, Bentley MicroStation, Crystal Caves HD, and other applications. This pattern is different from a normal Windows runtime error. The application is often loading or detecting Rapport while it runs, rather than asking Windows to find a standard system DLL.
If the error names a full Trusteer or Rapport path, treat it first as an application conflict. If it only says that the file is missing, Rapport may be incomplete, damaged, quarantined, or partly removed.
Fix 1: Confirm the file path and parent program
Before changing Windows files, find out which copy the error refers to.
- Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
- Paste this path into the address bar:
text
C:Program Files (x86)TrusteerRapportbinx64
- Look for
rooksbas_x64.dll. - If it is not there, check:
text
%LOCALAPPDATA%Trusteer
- Also search File Explorer for
rooksbas_x64.dll.
Multiple Rapport installations or stale per-user copies can exist. The path in the application’s crash report is more useful than the location returned by a general search.
A genuine copy should be inside a Trusteer or Rapport directory. Right-click the file, select Properties, and inspect the Digital Signatures tab if it is available. Check the signer details and the Details tab for product information.
Be cautious if the file is in a random download folder, a temporary directory, an unrelated game folder, or an unusual location under AppData. A file with this name is not automatically safe merely because the name looks familiar. If it has no valid signature or appeared after downloading pirated software, do not restore or run it. Scan the file with Windows Security and investigate the source.
Fix 2: Stop Trusteer Rapport and test the application
This is the fastest diagnostic test for Roblox, games, SkypeBridge, and business software crashes.

- Save your work.
- Close every browser window.
- Press the Windows key and search for
Trusteer. - Open the Trusteer or Rapport application.
- Select Stop Trusteer Endpoint Protection.
- Complete the visual confirmation if prompted.
- Choose Shutdown.
- Start the affected game or application again.
IBM warns that stopping Rapport while a browser is open can cause a browser crash, which is why browsers should be closed first.
If the application now starts normally, Rapport is strongly implicated. Do not leave security protection stopped as a permanent fix. Re-enable it by restarting Windows or opening Rapport and starting protection again, then proceed to update or reinstall it.
If stopping Rapport changes nothing, start it again and continue with the application repair steps below.
Fix 3: Update or reinstall Trusteer Rapport
A failed update, partial uninstall, damaged profile, or mismatched component can leave rooksbas_x64.dll missing or incompatible with the rest of Rapport.
For a supported reinstall:
- Sign in to the Windows account that originally installed Rapport.
- Close browsers and applications.
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find Trusteer Endpoint Protection or Trusteer Rapport.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- When the Rapport uninstaller offers Delete all user settings, select it if you want a clean reinstall.
- Sign in with an administrator account when requested.
- Obtain the current provider-specific
RapportSetup.exefrom the bank, employer, or organization that supplied Rapport, or from IBM’s official Trusteer provider download process. - Run the installer, complete setup, and restart Windows.
- Test the affected application before restoring other changes.
Do not use a generic installer from a file-sharing page. Rapport deployments can be provider-specific, and replacing only one DLL does not restore its services, configuration, or matching components.
If uninstalling fails because files are locked, close all browsers, restart Windows, and try again. If it still fails, use the provider’s supported uninstall guidance or contact IBM Trusteer Support rather than deleting the Rapport folder manually.
If Rapport is required for banking or work, ask the bank or IT department whether it supports the affected application before removing it permanently.
Fix 4: Repair or reinstall the affected application
If Rapport remains stopped and the error continues, the host application may be damaged.
For a Microsoft Store application:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Select the application’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Test the application.
- If Repair fails, return to the same page and select Reset, if available.
For Roblox or another game installed through a launcher, uninstall it from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, restart Windows, then install it again from its official source. A clean reinstall replaces deleted or broken application files, but it will not correct a Rapport conflict if Rapport is the actual cause.

If the application fails only when Rapport is running, reinstalling the application alone may not solve the problem. Return to Rapport’s update, exclusion, or removal options.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine and protection history
Security software may have quarantined or blocked the file. This is plausible when the error began immediately after an antivirus event, although a quarantine event does not by itself prove that rooksbas_x64.dll is malicious.
In Windows Security:
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
rooksbas_x64.dllor Trusteer. - Expand the event and review the detected path and action.
Restore the file only when all of these checks agree:
- The file is inside the genuine Rapport installation directory.
- Its digital signature is valid and identifies the expected Trusteer or IBM publisher.
- Rapport was installed intentionally by your bank, employer, or another trusted provider.
- The antivirus event is consistent with a false positive or blocked installation.
Never disable antivirus protection permanently. If the file was removed, repairing or reinstalling Rapport from the official provider source is safer than restoring an isolated DLL.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is affected
System File Checker and DISM are useful when Windows has broader corruption, multiple unrelated system errors, failed updates, or unstable system components. They normally cannot restore a third-party Rapport DLL.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
text
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish. Do not close the window if progress pauses.
- Run:
text
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and retest. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the Rapport and application checks instead of repeatedly replacing DLLs.
Running these commands will not normally fix a missing rooksbas_x64.dll because it is not a protected Windows component.

Repeating SFC and DISM manually can be tedious when you do not know which Windows components changed. Outbyte PC Repair offers a free scan that shows detected problems; repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling Rapport remains the definitive fix when that product owns the missing file.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 7: Check updates and drivers only when the timing fits
If the crash began after a Windows update, Rapport update, application update, graphics driver change, or security-product installation, undoing the most recent change may identify the cause.
For Windows updates:
- Open Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
- Review recent updates.
- Select Uninstall updates if Windows offers that option.
- Restart and test.
For a graphics or other hardware driver:
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters.
- Right-click the device and choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Use Roll Back Driver if available and the problem began after that driver update.
- Otherwise select Update driver, then Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
Drivers do not normally install rooksbas_x64.dll, so updating a driver is not the primary repair. It is relevant when the same application also reports graphics, display, or hardware crashes.
Manually checking many devices and matching driver versions takes time and can introduce the wrong package. Outbyte Driver Updater offers a free scan showing which drivers are outdated; driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and it does not replace repairing the application or Rapport that owns this DLL.

Does regsvr32 fix this DLL?
No, not as a general repair.
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide the required registration entry points. It is not a command for downloading, installing, repairing, or refreshing every DLL. There is no evidence that rooksbas_x64.dll should be registered manually.
Do not run commands such as:
regsvr32 rooksbas_x64.dll
unless the product’s official support instructions specifically require it. An error from regsvr32 usually means the DLL is not designed for manual registration, not that Windows needs another copy.
What not to do
Avoid these common failed repairs:
- Downloading
rooksbas_x64.dllfrom a random DLL website. - Copying the file from another computer.
- Placing it in
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - Copying it into the Roblox or game directory.
- Renaming another DLL to match it.
- Disabling antivirus permanently.
- Deleting the entire Trusteer folder before uninstalling Rapport.
- Installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET solely because this filename appears.
A standalone download can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, come from the wrong Rapport release, or fail because the matching services and configuration are still missing.

Is rooksbas_x64.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with IBM Trusteer Rapport, also called IBM Security Trusteer Endpoint Protection.
Why is a 64-bit DLL under Program Files (x86)?
Rapport’s product layout can place its installation under Program Files (x86) even when the specific component is 64-bit. The x64 suffix is the relevant clue for this DLL.
Is the file malware?
Not merely because it interacts with applications. Rapport is legitimate security software, but an unsigned copy in an unexpected directory should be treated as suspicious until verified.
Should I remove Rapport?
Only after considering why it was installed. A bank or employer may require it. Stop it temporarily for testing, then ask the provider whether an update, supported exclusion, or permanent removal is appropriate.

What if the error remains after Rapport is disabled?
Repair or reinstall the named application, verify its files through its launcher, check antivirus history, and investigate recent updates. If several unrelated Windows features are failing, then run DISM followed by SFC.
What if every fix fails?
Save the full error text and path, note when the problem began, and collect the application crash report and Rapport logs. Contact the affected application’s support team and IBM Trusteer Support. Do not keep downloading replacement copies of the DLL.
