If the GeForce RTX 4060 and Radeon RX 7600 cost roughly the same, buy the RTX 4060. It is the faster all-round card, considerably stronger with ray tracing, more power-efficient, and better suited to DLSS, streaming, and creator software. The RX 7600 becomes the smarter purchase when it is at least $40–$50 cheaper and your priority is conventional 1080p gaming.
There is one important 2026 qualification: both are 2023 GPUs with 8GB of VRAM. If either is priced close to a newer card or a higher-tier 12GB/16GB model, stop comparing only these two and widen your search.

Quick verdict
- Best overall: RTX 4060. Choose it for ray tracing, DLSS, streaming, creator applications, lower power consumption, or a compact build.
- Best discounted raster option: RX 7600. Choose it for 1080p gaming without much ray tracing when it is substantially cheaper.
- Buy neither if the price approaches a newer GPU or a card with more than 8GB of VRAM.
The difference is not as simple as “Nvidia is faster.” In traditional rasterized games, the two cards are often close and either can win individual titles. Nvidia’s lead expands sharply with ray tracing and supported DLSS features, making the RTX 4060 the safer general-purpose choice.

Specifications are useful for compatibility, but they do not predict gaming performance directly. The RX 7600 has more compute units and slightly greater raw memory bandwidth, yet the RTX 4060’s architecture, cache, drivers, ray-tracing hardware, and software features produce better results across many test suites. CUDA cores and AMD stream processors are not directly comparable, and TFLOPS are not an apples-to-apples performance measure.

1080p gaming performance
Rasterized games
For ordinary games without ray tracing, the RTX 4060 and RX 7600 are broadly competitive. Tom’s Hardware’s 19-game comparison found only a small RTX 4060 raster advantage—about 3% at 1080p and 4% at 1440p in that particular test suite. Its newer 2026 GPU hierarchy places the RTX 4060 at 71.5% of its reference 1080p Ultra index and the RX 7600 at 69.9%.
That gap is small enough to disappear in some games. TechSpot found examples such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II where the RX 7600 could lead substantially in rasterized performance. Results depend on the engine, drivers, settings, CPU, and test-game selection, so neither card should be described as universally faster in rasterization.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →On a 60Hz or 75Hz display, a small average-FPS difference is usually difficult to notice unless it changes whether a game stays above the display’s refresh target. On a 144Hz or 165Hz monitor, the RTX 4060’s modest aggregate lead can matter more in GPU-limited games, but neither card will sustain those refresh rates in every demanding modern title at Ultra settings.
Average FPS is not the whole experience. Minimums, frame-time consistency, shader compilation, texture streaming, and the settings required to avoid VRAM pressure can determine whether a game feels smooth. Benchmark results should also identify whether they use native resolution, DLSS, FSR, or frame generation.

Ray tracing
Ray tracing is the clearest RTX 4060 advantage. In Tom’s Hardware’s comparison, the RTX 4060 was approximately 42% faster at 1080p and 49% faster at 1440p in the ray-tracing aggregate. TechSpot likewise found a large Nvidia advantage in ray-traced testing.
That does not make the RTX 4060 a high-end ray-tracing card. Both GPUs are budget models, and enabling demanding RT effects can push an 8GB card into compromises involving resolution, textures, reflections, or upscaling. The RTX 4060 is simply more practical: it starts with higher RT performance and has DLSS available in supported games.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The RX 7600 is a poor choice if your main reason for upgrading is strong ray tracing or path tracing. It can run selected RT games with carefully chosen settings, but do not buy it expecting dependable path-tracing performance.
Can either card handle 1440p?
Yes, but both are primarily 1080p GPUs. AMD explicitly positions the RX 7600 for 1080p gaming, and the RTX 4060 is best understood the same way.
At 1440p, use a sensible mixture of High and Medium settings rather than assuming Ultra is appropriate. Upscaling can make 1440p playable, particularly in games with good DLSS or FSR implementations. The RTX 4060 is the more usable 1440p option because of its stronger RT performance and DLSS support, but it is not a robust long-term 1440p purchase.

Both cards have just 8GB of VRAM and a 128-bit memory interface. That capacity can remain adequate for many 1080p games, but newer titles may require reduced texture quality or other compromises—especially at 1440p, with ray tracing, or with high-resolution texture packs. VRAM usage also depends on the game engine, resolution, texture settings, shader data, and operating-system overhead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteNeither card should be marketed as “future-proof.” A card with more VRAM is not automatically faster, but more memory provides greater flexibility as games become more demanding.
DLSS vs FSR
The RTX 4060 supports Nvidia DLSS, including Super Resolution and Frame Generation in supported games. The RX 7600 supports AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and related Radeon features. Support and image quality vary by game, implementation, version, and quality preset.
DLSS generally gives the RTX 4060 the stronger feature advantage, particularly when ray tracing is enabled. That is not a guarantee that DLSS is universally better than FSR: compare the actual game, mode, base resolution, motion handling, and image-quality preference.
Upscaling reconstructs an image from a lower internal resolution; it is not equivalent to native rendering. Frame Generation can increase the number of displayed frames, but it does not remove the latency and responsiveness limits of the underlying rendered frame rate. A high generated-FPS counter should not be treated as equivalent to the same native-rendered FPS.

Power, cooling, and small-form-factor builds
The RTX 4060 is materially more efficient. Nvidia rates it at approximately 115W TGP, while AMD rates the RX 7600 at 165W TBP. Tom’s Hardware measured roughly 25–35W less consumption from the RTX 4060 in its testing, describing typical average draw at about 125W versus about 150W for the RX 7600.
Lower consumption can mean less heat, potentially quieter cooling, and fewer power-supply constraints. It is especially useful in a compact case or a system with limited airflow. However, TGP and TBP are not identical manufacturer metrics, and actual draw varies with the board partner, factory overclock, power limit, game, and workload. A well-designed RX 7600 can be quieter than a poorly designed RTX 4060.
Check the exact card’s length, height, thickness, cooler, and power connector before buying. GPU-family specifications do not guarantee that every partner model fits the same case.
System compatibility and PSU guidance
- Both are PCIe 4.0-era cards and are commonly specified with an x8 electrical link.
- On a PCIe 3.0 motherboard, performance impact varies by game and system configuration. It can become more relevant when VRAM pressure causes additional data transfers.
- Confirm that the card fits the motherboard’s primary PCIe slot and your case.
- Check the exact power connector and the graphics card manufacturer’s recommended PSU.
- Size the PSU for the complete system, including the CPU, drives, fans, and transient loads—not for the GPU in isolation.
- Consider CPU limitations, particularly if targeting high refresh rates at 1080p.
- Verify monitor outputs and whether the card supports the display’s resolution and refresh rate.
Do not treat a generic 650W or 750W recommendation as universal. AMD’s published system-power guidance is based on a particular test configuration, including a Ryzen 9 5900X, and is not a mandatory requirement for every RX 7600 build.
Streaming, recording, and creator workloads
Favor the RTX 4060 if you stream frequently, record gameplay, use CUDA- or OptiX-dependent software, or rely on Nvidia Studio optimizations. Nvidia highlights its NVENC encoder, AV1 encoding, NVDEC, Nvidia Broadcast, DLSS, and creator-software support.

The RX 7600 is not missing modern video capability: AMD lists AV1 decoding and support for current video codecs. The practical difference depends on the application’s encoder support, quality, performance, plug-ins, and workflow compatibility. Codec presence alone does not establish that one card is better for every editing or streaming setup.

The launch prices—$299 for the RTX 4060 and $269 for the RX 7600—are historical context, not 2026 buying advice. These are older cards, and remaining-stock pricing can be irrational. A retailer listing observed during the research period showed an XFX RX 7600 at $329.99, while another RX 7600 listing was no longer available new. Retail availability and prices change, so verify live U.S. pricing, warranty, and return terms before ordering.
| Price relationship | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| RX 7600 less than $20 cheaper | Buy the RTX 4060. |
| RX 7600 $20–$40 cheaper | Choose based on ray tracing, DLSS, software, power, and games played. |
| RX 7600 $40–$60 or more cheaper | It becomes defensible for raster-focused 1080p gaming. |
| Either is close to a newer 8GB GPU | Compare the newer card’s performance, features, price, and warranty. |
| Either is close to a higher-tier 12GB/16GB GPU | Prefer the higher-memory alternative if its condition and warranty are acceptable. |
A useful calculation is average FPS divided by card price, but calculate it separately for rasterized 1080p, ray-traced 1080p, mixed gaming, and performance per watt. Do not use an unusually expensive RTX 4060 or a clearance RX 7600 to make a permanent claim about value.
Who should buy the RTX 4060?
- You want the strongest all-round choice at a similar price.
- You play or plan to play ray-traced games.
- You want DLSS or Frame Generation in supported titles.
- You stream, record, edit video, or use CUDA, OptiX, or Nvidia-specific creator software.
- You are building a compact PC or have limited cooling and PSU headroom.
- You prefer lower power consumption over a small possible raster advantage in individual games.
Who should buy the RX 7600?
- It is at least $40–$50 cheaper than the available RTX 4060.
- You mainly play rasterized games at 1080p.
- Ray tracing and Nvidia-specific software are unimportant to you.
- The particular RX 7600 has a better cooler, warranty, return policy, or case fit.
- You have checked newer alternatives and the discounted Radeon remains the best price-to-performance option.
When should you buy neither?
Compare newer products if either card costs close to a current-generation 8GB model. One August 2026 price-watch report listed an RTX 5060 8GB model at $359, but current price, availability, performance, and warranty must be verified at purchase. Do not assume a 2023 GPU remains the best budget option simply because its launch price was attractive.
Also consider a used higher-tier card if it offers substantially more VRAM or performance for similar money. Treat the warranty, return period, operating temperatures, mining history, physical condition, and proof of function as part of the price. A used card without meaningful return protection is a poor substitute for predictable new hardware.
Final recommendation
If the RTX 4060 and RX 7600 cost roughly the same, choose the RTX 4060. Its raster advantage is usually modest, but its ray-tracing lead, DLSS support, lower power draw, and stronger creator ecosystem make it the more capable overall package.
Choose the RX 7600 only when the discount is large enough to compensate for its weaker ray tracing, higher power draw, and less versatile feature set—and only if 1080p rasterized gaming is your clear priority. If both cards are expensive for their age or you need dependable 1440p performance for several years, buy neither and compare newer or higher-memory GPUs.
