1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe desktop GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is substantially faster than the RTX 2070 Super, with newer ray-tracing and AI hardware, DLSS Frame Generation support, and 12 GB rather than 8 GB of VRAM. It is a major upgrade for 1440p and 4K gaming, but whether it is a good buy in 2026 depends on its actual price relative to newer cards. The RTX 2070 Super still makes sense as a low-cost 1080p card; it is not a close performance rival.
Which graphics cards are being compared?
This comparison covers the desktop GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and GeForce RTX 2070 Super—not the 16 GB RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, the regular RTX 2070, or laptop GPUs. Partner models can differ in cooling, dimensions, clocks, connectors, and factory overclocking, so confirm the exact model before buying.

How much faster is the RTX 4070 Ti in games?
It is a large generational jump, but there is no single multiplier that applies to every game. Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 GPU hierarchy reports the 4070 Ti at 79.8% of its reference card’s 1440p Ultra performance in its legacy comparison table. The hierarchy’s main comparison data gives the 4070 Ti a 116.5 FPS 1440p Ultra average, while the legacy table reports 23.1 FPS for the 2070 Super in a corresponding percentage-based dataset. These are results from that outlet’s test suite, not a promise of particular frame rates or a universal game-to-game ratio; test groupings differ and legacy-card coverage at 4K is incomplete. See the Tom’s Hardware GPU hierarchy.
1080p
The 2070 Super remains usable for esports, older games, and many newer games with sensible settings. The 4070 Ti is often more GPU than a 1080p 60 Hz display can use, though it is valuable for high-refresh gaming, demanding effects, or a later monitor upgrade. At this resolution, a fast CPU, game engine, or frame cap can limit the difference you see.
1440p
This is the 4070 Ti’s natural target. It offers much more room for high settings and high refresh rates than the 2070 Super, particularly in demanding games. The older card can still handle 1440p with adjusted settings, but it has less performance and memory headroom as games become more demanding.
4K
The 4070 Ti is clearly the stronger choice, but treat it as a card for 4K with settings choices—not an assurance of unrestricted native 4K Ultra, especially with heavy ray tracing. DLSS can help, while 12 GB of VRAM may still constrain some demanding games or texture settings. The 2070 Super generally requires larger compromises at this resolution.
In CPU-limited or older games, the GPU gap may not translate into an equally large on-screen difference. When comparing reviews, look for the same game and settings, native results separated from upscaled ones, rasterization separated from ray tracing, and average FPS alongside 1% lows. Frame Generation output should be reported separately from conventionally rendered frames.
Ray tracing and DLSS features
Both cards support ray tracing and DLSS Super Resolution in games that implement those features, but the 4070 Ti’s newer RT and Tensor hardware makes it much better suited to demanding ray-traced effects. It also supports Ada-generation features including DLSS Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction. NVIDIA lists these capabilities on its RTX 4070 family page.
- RTX 2070 Super: DLSS Super Resolution and DLAA where supported by a game; no DLSS 3 Frame Generation support.
- RTX 4070 Ti: Super Resolution, DLAA, Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction where supported by the game and software.
Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames; it does not turn them into the same kind of frames the GPU renders conventionally. It can improve perceived smoothness, but latency, artifacts, game implementation, and the underlying rendered frame rate matter. A game without DLSS or Frame Generation support still benefits from the 4070 Ti’s stronger conventional rendering performance.
Is 8 GB or 12 GB of VRAM enough?
The 4070 Ti’s 12 GB is a 50% capacity increase over the 2070 Super’s 8 GB. That additional room can help with high-resolution textures, ray tracing, mods, and GPU-accelerated creative work. It does not make the 4070 Ti future-proof, and 12 GB is not equivalent to the 16 GB on the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. NVIDIA’s specifications distinguish the original 4070 Ti’s 12 GB from the SUPER’s 16 GB: NVIDIA RTX 4070 family.

Power, cooling, and PC compatibility
The 4070 Ti has a higher rated power draw—285 W versus 215 W for the 2070 Super—so the older card uses less power in absolute terms. The 4070 Ti nevertheless delivers far more performance per watt in the comparison’s broad practical sense. Actual system power, temperatures, and noise depend on the game, CPU, card design, case airflow, and fan settings; do not infer them from board power alone. NVIDIA recommends a 700 W system PSU for its reference 4070 Ti specification: NVIDIA RTX 4070 family specifications.
Before installing or buying a 4070 Ti, check the exact card’s dimensions and connector requirements: partner designs vary, and many use a 12VHPWR-style connection or an adapter. Confirm PSU quality and suitable cables, case clearance including any front radiator, airflow, motherboard slot availability, and whether the CPU is likely to limit your target frame rate. Both cards work in backward-compatible PCIe slots, though the 2070 Super is a PCIe 3.0 design and the 4070 Ti is PCIe 4.0.
Streaming and creative workloads
The 4070 Ti is the stronger option for CUDA- or OptiX-based rendering, GPU-accelerated editing, and applications that use newer AI or media features. Its RTX 40 family also supports AV1 encoding in supported workflows. The 2070 Super remains useful in CUDA-compatible software and older NVENC workflows, but lacks the 4070 Ti’s newer media and AI capabilities. Outcomes vary with application version, codec, effects, driver, and whether the workload uses CUDA, OptiX, Tensor cores, or NVENC; NVIDIA describes its RTX 40 family’s creative and media features at NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 family.
Should you upgrade from an RTX 2070 Super?
Upgrade for 1440p, 4K, or ray tracing
The move is compelling if the 2070 Super is falling short at 1440p, you want stronger ray tracing, you are encountering memory limits, or you want Frame Generation and newer creator features. Consider the net upgrade cost after selling the old card and compare it with current alternatives before committing.
Keep the 2070 Super for modest 1080p gaming
If your games already meet your monitor’s refresh rate, you mainly play esports or older titles, or a replacement would consume most of your PC budget, keeping the card is reasonable. A cheaper used 2070 Super can also suit a basic 1080p build, provided the card is in good condition and the price is well below newer options.
Check the rest of the system
- Confirm the PSU’s capacity, quality, and connectors against the exact GPU and whole system.
- Measure the case and check card thickness and airflow.
- Make sure the monitor and games can use the performance you are paying for.
- For a used card, inspect return terms, seller reputation, remaining warranty, fan noise, temperatures, and evidence of artifacts under load; ask about repairs or repasting where possible.
Which card should you buy in 2026?
Do not use launch MSRP as a substitute for a current deal. NVIDIA introduced the 4070 Ti at a $799 launch price, while the 2070 Super launched at $499; those historical prices explain their original positioning, not what either card should cost today. NVIDIA’s 2023 RTX 4070 announcement and RTX 2070 Super announcement document period pricing; current listing prices vary by place, condition, and model.
Compare the 4070 Ti’s actual price with newer NVIDIA cards—including 16 GB options such as the 4070 Ti SUPER—and current AMD alternatives. A newer card may offer more VRAM, a current-generation feature set, or better warranty value. AMD is worth checking if raster performance and memory capacity matter more than CUDA, OptiX, NVENC, DLSS, or NVIDIA-specific software; which is the better deal depends on current prices and benchmarks. Buy the 4070 Ti when its price and NVIDIA feature advantages justify choosing an older generation. Consider a 2070 Super only when it is clearly discounted for used 1080p gaming.
