For a value-focused US gaming PC buyer, the RTX 5070 is the more defensible budget choice at the October 2026 prices cited here. The RTX 5070 Ti is faster and has 16 GB of VRAM, but its substantially higher street price can erase the benefit of its performance lead. The right pick depends on the price you can actually buy at, your target resolution and settings, and whether your games or other workloads benefit from the extra memory.

Which offers better value for money?

At Tom’s Hardware’s October 2026 US median street prices, the RTX 5070 costs $659 and the RTX 5070 Ti costs $1,099. That is a $440 premium for the Ti, or about 67% more. In Windows Central’s cited 16-game rasterization averages, the Ti leads by about 18% at 1080p, 25% at 1440p, and 31% at 4K. On those figures, the Ti’s price premium is much larger than its average raster performance gain, so the RTX 5070 is the stronger value for a buyer trying to control cost.

Those are dated US snapshots, not guaranteed prices or a promise of current stock. Tom’s Hardware also lists historical MSRPs of $549 for the RTX 5070 and $749 for the Ti; MSRP is launch-price context, not the price a buyer can assume today. PC Gamer’s October 1, 2026 price watch listed a $779 Walmart offer for the 5070, with checks at Best Buy, Amazon, and Newegg around $800–$850. For the Ti, it listed a $1,149.99 Newegg offer and checks at Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon around $1,150–$1,180. PC Gamer noted that its Newegg discount required account creation and email details. Check availability, seller, exact card model, and checkout total before deciding.

How much faster is the RTX 5070 Ti?

Windows Central reports Tom’s Hardware results from a 16-game rasterization suite showing the Ti ahead at all three tested resolutions. These are suite averages, not predictions for every game, PC, or graphics setting.

Resolution and setting RTX 5070 average RTX 5070 Ti average Ti lead
1080p Ultra 105.8 FPS 124.9 FPS About 18%
1440p Ultra 80.4 FPS 100.3 FPS About 25%
4K Ultra 46.7 FPS 61.2 FPS About 31%

Source: Tom’s Hardware results as reported by Windows Central’s RTX 5070 versus RTX 5070 Ti comparison. Windows Central also gives combined 22-game averages, which include its cited rasterization and ray-tracing results: 103.4 / 77.4 / 43.6 FPS for the 5070 and 122.9 / 97 / 57.6 FPS for the Ti at 1080p / 1440p / 4K Ultra, respectively. Tom’s Hardware’s October 2026 overview reports a separate 1080p / 1440p / 4K table: 103.8 / 74.0 / 37.6 FPS for the 5070 and 123.7 / 92.0 / 52.8 FPS for the Ti. The results come from different test suites and should not be merged into one benchmark.

For 1080p gaming

The 5070’s 105.8 FPS average in the cited 16-game Ultra suite is already above 100 FPS, while the Ti averages 124.9 FPS. The faster card may help if you are pursuing higher frame rates, but the Ti’s relative advantage was smallest at this resolution in that suite. At the October 2026 median prices, paying roughly 67% more for that average uplift is hard to justify on value alone.

For 1440p gaming

The 5070 Ti’s 100.3 FPS average versus 80.4 FPS for the 5070 is a more noticeable gap, particularly if you want to preserve high frame rates at Ultra settings. Whether that justifies the extra cost depends on the actual price difference and your priorities; at the cited medians, the premium still outstrips the raster average gain.

For 4K gaming

The Ti has its largest raster lead in the cited suite: 61.2 FPS against 46.7 FPS. That can make it the more appealing option for demanding 4K settings, but even its suite average is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate in a specific game. If 4K is your target, compare benchmarks for the games you play and consider whether lowering settings or using available upscaling features is acceptable before paying the Ti premium.

Does ray tracing change the value calculation?

In Windows Central’s reported six-game ray-tracing suite, the RTX 5070 averaged 97.4 FPS at 1080p, 69.8 FPS at 1440p, and 36.4 FPS at 4K. The Ti averaged 117.5, 88.5, and 48.9 FPS at those resolutions. These are results for that specific suite, not a universal ray-tracing performance estimate. If the games you play use demanding ray tracing, compare their individual results and settings; the Ti’s lead may matter more to you than a broad raster average.

What do the specifications and extra VRAM mean?

NVIDIA’s reference specifications list 6,144 CUDA cores and 12 GB of GDDR7 memory for the RTX 5070, compared with 8,960 CUDA cores and 16 GB of GDDR7 for the Ti. NVIDIA also lists 988 AI TOPS and 94 TFLOPS of ray-tracing performance for the 5070, versus 1,406 AI TOPS and 133 TFLOPS for the Ti. These are manufacturer reference-design figures; NVIDIA cautions that specifications can differ among add-in cards.

The Ti’s 16 GB buffer gives it more memory headroom than the 5070’s 12 GB. That can be relevant in games or other workloads that use more video memory, but capacity alone does not establish a specific frame-rate improvement or guarantee that a game needs 16 GB. The comparison evidence here does not establish a universal VRAM threshold for current or future games, so use results for your titles, resolution, and texture settings rather than treating the larger number as automatically worth the price premium.

Which card should you buy?

  • Choose the RTX 5070 for cost-conscious gaming if its actual price is materially lower and its performance meets your resolution and frame-rate goals.
  • Consider the RTX 5070 Ti if you play at 4K or prioritize higher frame rates at 1440p, need the additional VRAM for a particular workload, and the live price premium is acceptable to you.
  • Recheck the comparison when prices move. A Ti priced close to the 5070 may be worth the extra spend; the October 2026 median gap is unusually steep relative to the cited average raster lead.
  • Compare the exact add-in-board models. Cooler design, dimensions, clock settings, connectors, and power requirements can differ by manufacturer, so verify the vendor page for the specific card and make sure it suits your case and system.

On the October 2026 US median-price snapshot, the RTX 5070 is the better value for most budget-focused buyers. The Ti is the faster card, but it makes financial sense when its current premium is smaller than the cited gap, or when its higher-resolution performance and larger memory capacity solve a need you actually have.
