Xbox later confirmed several notable additions, but its announcements do not verify either rumored total. The distinction matters: a game newly added to the catalog is not necessarily a new release arriving on Game Pass at launch.
What did the September 2024 rumor claim?
A Reddit discussion dated August 23, 2024, attributed the claim to Extas1s: 19 games would come to Game Pass during September, and 17 would be day-one releases. That establishes that the claim circulated; it is not an Xbox announcement or independent confirmation of the count. The discussion’s search-result title described “19 games coming to Gamepass in September” and “17” day-one titles.
The available Xbox announcements named specific games and dates, but did not confirm a complete lineup of 19 or a total of 17 day-one launches. The rumor should therefore be treated as unverified, not as a confirmed schedule.
What did Xbox confirm for September?
In its September 3, 2024 wave-one post, Xbox listed several additions with specific dates and platform labels. These examples show that the month had substantial additions, but they do not establish the rumored totals. Xbox Wire’s September 3 announcement listed:

| Game | Announced availability | Platforms or service label in Xbox’s post |
|---|---|---|
| Age of Mythology: Retold | September 4 | Cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S |
| Expeditions: A MudRunner Game | September 5 | Xbox’s post listed the date; platform details are not stated here. |
| Riders Republic | September 11 | Cloud, Console, PC |
| Train Sim World 5 | September 17 | Cloud, Console, PC; Xbox explicitly described it as available on day one with Game Pass |
Xbox had also confirmed Star Trucker for September 3 and explicitly called it a day-one Game Pass release in its August 30 schedule. The schedule is separate from the September 3 wave-one catalog post.
Why the “19 games, 17 day one” count is hard to verify
Several different kinds of announcements can be mistaken for one monthly count. A title may be newly joining the service without launching that day; a newly released game may be described as day one; and a title announced for a future Game Pass arrival may not be part of the September catalog additions. Platform scope also varies: Xbox used labels such as Cloud, Console, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Game Pass.

For example, Age of Mythology: Retold had already been announced for a September 4 launch and day-one Game Pass availability before the September wave-one post. Xbox’s June showcase recap covered titles planned for future Game Pass day-one availability, so prior announcements should not automatically be counted as newly revealed September additions. The June 9 showcase recap supplies that earlier context.
What was announced later in the month?
On September 26, Microsoft announced that StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft II: Campaign Collection were coming to PC Game Pass. That later announcement adds useful context about the month, but it was not part of Xbox’s September 3 wave-one list and does not confirm the rumor’s overall count. Microsoft’s Tokyo Game Show recap specifies PC Game Pass for both titles.

What was leaving the catalog?
Xbox’s September 3 post also listed games scheduled to leave on September 15. Departures are separate from additions and should not be included in a count of games arriving that month.
