Jagex has officially announced an animated series based on RuneScape, developed with Lyrical Animation and Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White’s Meatier Productions. The project is in early development, and Jagex says it expects to share more details in 2027—not that the show will premiere that year.

Is there a RuneScape animated series?

Yes. Jagex announced on October 3, 2026, that work had begun on an animated series based on the fantasy MMORPG. The announcement came at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK, where Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy revealed the project. Jagex says it is in early development. Jagex’s announcement describes a plan to bring the game’s world to the screen and “expand RuneScape beyond the gaming ecosystem.”

RuneScape, developed and published by Jagex, first released in 2001. The series would adapt the game’s world of Gielinor, but the announcement does not yet specify what story it will tell.

Who is making the series?

Jagex names Lyrical Animation and Meatier Productions as producers, with creator Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White involved. The announcement does not identify a showrunner, individual writer, director, or voice cast. Bellamy said: “We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience.”

What has not been announced?

The project remains at an early stage. Jagex’s announcement and GamesRadar+’s October 5, 2026 report do not give a release date, distributor or streaming service, episode count, animation style, plot, or cast. Those details should be treated as unannounced, rather than inferred from the game or the companies involved.

When will the RuneScape show come out?

There is no confirmed release date. Jagex says it expects to announce further details in 2027; that is an update window, not a premiere date. Until Jagex shares a schedule or names a distributor, there is no confirmed way to watch the series.
