RuneScape’s Havenhythe expansion does introduce a dark story threat: the Sanguine. But Jagex’s announcements do not confirm the specific fan-discovered clue suggested by the headline. The verified story reveal is part of Havenhythe Part II, released September 28, 2026; a particular fan discovery remains unsubstantiated by the sources available.
What is the “dark secret” in RuneScape’s new expansion?
The confirmed secretive threat is the Sanguine, which Jagex describes as a danger to Havenhythe. The official announcement for Part II says players face a climactic battle to defend the region. It does not identify a hidden clue, name a fan who found one, or point to a specific fan post.
That distinction matters: the Sanguine is an official story reveal, while the claim that fans have just spotted a particular secret is not verified by the available announcements. Jagex Lead Game Designer Bradley Hickey described the first part of the expansion as offering “the first glimpse of a new threat: the Sanguine.”
What is Havenhythe?
Havenhythe is a RuneScape region east of Morytania. Jagex’s official expansion page says its story moves farther east as the year progresses, bringing new areas and greater threats. The content arrived in stages during 2026, with Part I opening the region and Part II expanding its story and activities.

What did Havenhythe Part I add?
Jagex launched Part I on March 23, 2026, describing Havenhythe as the largest area expansion in RuneScape’s 25-year history. That is Jagex’s own characterization, not an independently measured size comparison. The announcement listed these additions:
- A new quest series.
- A Hunter expansion with the skill level cap raised to 110.
- Two boss encounters aimed at early-game players.
- Fish farming.
Jagex framed the opening story as a return to a more grounded RuneScape adventure, in contrast with stories focused on gods and world-ending threats.

What arrived in Havenhythe Part II?
Jagex released Part II on September 28, 2026. Its announcement lists four new areas to explore, a battle to defend Havenhythe against the Sanguine, and a standalone Bangolin quest. The update also includes activities for questers, fighters, and skillers.
In practical terms, Part I established the region and added new questing and skill content; Part II widened the explorable area and pushed the Sanguine storyline toward a confrontation. The announcements establish that story progression, but not a separate, newly discovered fan clue.

What is confirmed—and what remains unverified?
- Confirmed: Havenhythe is a new region east of Morytania, released in stages in 2026.
- Confirmed: Jagex introduced the Sanguine as a threat and built Part II around defending the region.
- Not established: A particular hidden clue spotted by fans, the identity of the discoverers, or when such a discovery supposedly occurred.
Without a documented clue or source for the fan claim, it is more accurate to treat the headline’s “fans just spotted it” framing as unverified rather than as a confirmed expansion reveal.
