Upsampling kann einem Ryzen 7 5800X3D-System mehr Bilder pro Sekunde ermöglichen, wenn die Grafikkarte bremst: DLSS, FSR und XeSS lassen das Spiel intern mit weniger Pixeln rendern und entlasten so potenziell die GPU. Der Zugewinn flacht jedoch ab, sobald der Prozessor zum Limit wird. Der PC-Games-Hardware-Test stellt dafür einen Ryzen 7 5800X3D mit Intel Arc B580, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 und AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT gegenüber. Konkrete Ranglisten oder Bildraten lassen sich aus den zugänglichen Angaben nicht ableiten.
Was der Test untersucht – und was sich daraus ablesen lässt
Der Beitrag von David Krausbauer und Raffael Vötter erschien in PC Games Hardware 08/2026; die Artikelseite weist den 2. Oktober 2026 als Veröffentlichungsdatum aus. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, welche Komponente zuerst limitiert: Prozessor oder Grafikkarte. Genannt werden als Testsystem ein Ryzen 7 5800X3D sowie drei Grafikkarten: Intel Arc B580, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 und AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. Die zugänglichen Angaben enthalten keine vollständigen Benchmarktabellen und keine nachvollziehbaren Ergebnisse pro Spiel, Karte oder Upsampling-Einstellung. Deshalb lässt sich daraus weder ein getesteter Sieger noch ein bestimmter Leistungszuwachs seriös nennen. Die Hardware-Aufstellung zeigt den Rahmen des Vergleichs, nicht dessen vollständige Resultate.
Warum Upsampling helfen kann – bis die CPU limitiert
Upsampling bedeutet hier, dass ein Spiel intern mit einer niedrigeren Auflösung rendert und das Bild auf die gewählte Ausgabeauflösung hochrechnet. Weil weniger Pixel berechnet werden müssen, kann die Grafikkarte weniger Arbeit haben. Ist sie der begrenzende Faktor, kann die Bildrate steigen.

PC Games Hardware fasst den möglichen Effekt so zusammen: „Wer Pixel spart, entlastet die GPU und erhöht damit potenziell die Bildrate – bis die CPU ‚zumacht‘.“ Entscheidend ist das Wort potenziell: Weniger GPU-Arbeit garantiert keinen gleich großen Bildratengewinn. Wird stattdessen der Prozessor zum Engpass, kann die GPU durch Upsampling zwar weiter entlastet werden, doch die Bildrate steigt kaum noch.
Die CPU-Leistung skaliert bei ansonsten vergleichbarer Bildausgabe nicht auf dieselbe Weise mit der Auflösung wie die GPU-Arbeit. Sinkt die interne Renderauflösung, wird deshalb nicht automatisch auch der CPU-Aufwand entsprechend kleiner. In einem GPU-limitierten Szenario kann der Unterschied zwischen hoher und niedriger interner Auflösung relevant sein; in einem CPU-limitierten Szenario stößt dieser Hebel an seine Grenze.

DLSS, FSR und XeSS sind keine austauschbaren Schalter
PC Games Hardware nennt DLSS, FSR und XeSS als die betrachteten Upsampling-Technologien und weist darauf hin, dass sich Bildqualität und Rechenaufwand je nach Verfahren unterscheiden. Welche Option sich lohnt, hängt daher nicht nur davon ab, wie viele Pixel eingespart werden, sondern auch davon, wie die jeweilige Implementierung in einem konkreten Spiel arbeitet.
- Interne und Ausgabeauflösung: Ein Qualitätsmodus bestimmt, aus welcher niedrigeren internen Auflösung das Bild rekonstruiert wird. Ohne die konkreten Testeinstellungen ist kein fairer Vergleich der Modi möglich.
- Bildqualität: Das Ergebnis ist unter anderem vom Spiel und der gewählten Methode abhängig. Die Autoren bewerten DLSS 4.x und FSR 4.x in ihrem Beitrag als besonders stark bei der Bildqualität; das ist eine redaktionelle Einschätzung, keine allgemeingültige Rangfolge für alle Spiele und Systeme.
- Rechenaufwand: Die im Beitrag hervorgehobenen hochwertigen Verfahren sind pro Pixel rechenintensiv. Dieser Aufwand kann einen Teil der möglichen GPU-Entlastung aufzehren.
- CPU- oder GPU-Limit: Selbst ein Verfahren, das die GPU deutlich entlastet, hilft der Bildrate wenig, wenn die CPU bereits den Durchsatz begrenzt.
- Spielunterstützung: Verfügbarkeit und konkrete Umsetzung unterscheiden sich von Spiel zu Spiel. Ein Verfahren ist nur dann eine praktische Option, wenn das jeweilige Spiel es anbietet.
Die Autoren empfehlen deshalb, Bildqualität und Leistung im eigenen Spiel zu prüfen, statt allein nach dem Namen der Technik oder einer pauschalen Qualitätswertung zu entscheiden.

So lässt sich das eigene Limit sinnvoll einordnen
- Ausgabeauflösung und Ziel festlegen. Prüfe zuerst die Auflösung, in der du tatsächlich spielst, und welche Bildrate du erreichen möchtest. Das Ziel bestimmt, ob ein Leistungsgewinn überhaupt relevant ist.
- Upsampling-Modi im selben Spiel vergleichen. Nutze nach Möglichkeit dieselbe Szene und vergleichbare Einstellungen. Achte auf sichtbare Bildfehler ebenso wie auf die gemessene Bildrate; unterschiedliche Szenen oder Presets machen den Vergleich weniger aussagekräftig.
- Beobachten, ob eine niedrigere interne Auflösung noch hilft. Steigt die Bildrate, spricht das dafür, dass die GPU zuvor einen wesentlichen Anteil am Limit hatte. Bleibt sie nahezu unverändert, kann die CPU oder ein anderer Teil des Systems begrenzen. Das ist ein praktischer Hinweis, aber allein kein vollständiger CPU-Nachweis.
- Ergebnis nicht auf andere Spiele übertragen. CPU- und GPU-Auslastung sowie die Implementierung des Upsamplings variieren je nach Spiel. Eine Einstellung, die in einer Szene hilft, muss in einer anderen nicht denselben Effekt haben.
Was ein separater 5800X3D-Test zum Engpass erklärt
Eine separate Analyse von ComputerBase zu GeForce RTX 5090 und RTX 4090 mit Ryzen 7 5800X3D illustriert das allgemeine Prinzip: Der Nutzen einer schnelleren Grafikkarte hängt davon ab, ob die jeweilige Anwendung GPU- oder CPU-limitiert ist; in manchen Szenarien kann der ältere Prozessor eine schnellere GPU nicht vollständig auslasten. Das ist eine andere Untersuchung mit anderen Grafikkarten und kein Ergebnis des PCGH-Upsampling-Vergleichs. Sie stützt nur die Erklärung, warum zusätzliche GPU-Leistung oder eine geringere interne Auflösung nicht in jedem Szenario proportional mehr Bilder pro Sekunde ergeben.
