S-GAME has openly discussed expanding Phantom Blade Zero, but its comments describe possibilities rather than an announced release slate. CEO and creator Soulframe said the studio expects that “both DLC and sequels can be expected” after it makes the base game sufficiently complete. The same interview describes possible 2D animation inside the game as an idea still being worked out.
That means there is narrative room for post-launch content and another game, but no confirmed sequel title, DLC package, animation series, release window or additional platform has been announced.

What S-GAME has actually said about future content
In a pre-release interview, Soulframe explained that S-GAME wants the initial game to stand on its own: “We hope first to ensure that the basic game content is very rich so that there is no need for DLC to provide additional supplements.” He then added that the studio has “a lot of stories and characters that cannot be included yet,” and that “both DLC and sequels can be expected.”

S-GAME has not identified a sequel name, DLC name, story outline, launch date, platforms beyond the currently announced game, budget or production status.

Does Phantom Blade Zero have DLC planned?
S-GAME has left the door open to downloadable expansions, particularly because some stories and characters will not fit into the initial release. However, the studio has also said that the base game is being designed to be rich enough that players do not need DLC to complete the experience.
Those statements are compatible: an optional expansion could add a new chapter, side story or character without repairing an incomplete main game. At present, S-GAME has not announced what form any DLC would take, whether it would be paid or free, or when it could arrive.
Will there be a Phantom Blade Zero sequel?
A sequel is one of the possibilities Soulframe explicitly mentioned. The comment is supported by the studio’s acknowledgment that additional stories and characters already exist at the concept level. It does not establish that Phantom Blade Zero 2 has entered production or received approval.

There is no public sequel title, release window, platform list or description of whether a follow-up would continue Soul’s story or move to another character. Any claim that a specific sequel is in development would go beyond what S-GAME has said.
What is the status of Phantom Blade Zero animation?
S-GAME’s animation comments concern possible 2D sequences within the game, not a confirmed television or film adaptation. Asked whether the animated storytelling could expand, Soulframe said there “may be some possibility” of using 2D animation for “special scenes, such as the memory world, phantom illusions, or other scenes different from reality,” adding, “We are still figuring it out.”
That is exploratory language. It indicates that the developers are considering a visual format for moments that depart from ordinary reality, but it does not confirm that those scenes will ship, how many there would be, or whether they would be added after launch.

The Year of the Dragon anime is not a series announcement
The Year of the Dragon anime has been described as a self-contained story intended to give audiences a taste of the Phantom Blade universe. S-GAME has not presented it as the first episode of an ongoing adaptation, nor announced a commissioned Phantom Blade Zero series or film.
Current release context for Phantom Blade Zero
The official creative-director letter dated June 2, 2026 moved the launch from September 9 to October 29, 2026. PlayStation’s announcement identifies the project as a PlayStation 5 game.
Phantom Blade Zero is described as the spiritual rebirth of Rainblood, rather than a straight remake. Its story follows Soul, an elite assassin framed for murdering the Order’s patriarch. After receiving a mystic cure that lasts 66 days, he must find the mastermind before the cure fails.

The setting, called Phantom World, combines Chinese kung fu, steampunk-like machinery and occult elements. S-GAME calls the resulting aesthetic “Kungfupunk.” These established details provide the base for any future expansion or sequel, but they do not reveal which unused characters or stories might return.

How to interpret future announcements
When S-GAME provides more information, the useful distinctions will be the story scope and delivery format. A new chapter attached to the PS5 game would be different from a side story, while a standalone sequel would carry its own release campaign and platform decision. Likewise, 2D scenes embedded in the game are not the same product as an external animated series.

- Visual format: distinguish in-game 2D sequences from a television or film production.
- Timing and platforms: look for an official date and confirmed hardware rather than assumptions based on the existing PS5 release.

Bottom line on sequels, expansions and animation
S-GAME has supplied the clearest possible early signal: it has more stories and characters in mind and expects DLC and sequels to be possible. Its 2D animation idea remains under consideration, while the Year of the Dragon project is self-contained. Until the studio names a project and provides production, timing and platform details, these are possibilities—not announced Phantom Blade Zero releases.
