S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on ROG Ally and Legion Go: Settings to Try

You can tune S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for a Windows handheld, but the available evidence does not establish that it “plays well” on every ROG Ally or Legion Go. The useful starting point is to reduce demanding graphics settings, choose an upscaler, and test a lower output resolution if needed. Treat the device-specific values below as starting suggestions—not guaranteed or measured results.

Start with the settings that most directly affect load

The game selects overall quality settings automatically at startup, but you can change them manually. GSC Game World’s Advanced Graphics Settings guide explains the main trade-offs:

  • Object Quality: Controls textures, hair, detail, and effects. Higher settings use more video memory.
  • Shadows, Global Illumination, and Reflections Quality: Affect lighting and reflection detail. Lowering them can reduce system load.
  • Environment Draw Distance: Can affect frame rate; reduce it if performance remains inconsistent.
  • Resolution scale: A value below 100% reduces load but makes the image less clear; a higher value improves clarity while demanding more resources.

The guide lists TSR, AMD FSR 3.0, NVIDIA DLSS, and Intel XeSS as supported upscalers. Which options are available or useful depends on the hardware and game configuration. Try an available upscaler before sacrificing more image detail elsewhere.

Handheld resolution suggestions are starting points, not benchmarks

A retailer-published guide dated December 19, 2025 offers these device-specific suggestions. They are not controlled tests, and results can differ with device variant, game build, drivers, power mode, and image-quality preference.

Device Suggested starting point What to keep in mind
Legion Go 800p output This is the guide’s recommendation, not a verified best setting for every Legion Go configuration.
ROG Ally 720p with RSR, or 1080p with FSR Performance These are alternatives in the guide, not comparable measured results. Choose based on clarity and smoothness on your specific device.

The recommendations come from Performance Pulse / Evetech’s handheld optimization guide. The same guide suggests different power profiles depending on whether the handheld is plugged in or running on battery, but the available information does not establish universal wattage or profile settings. Test the device’s power modes under the conditions you actually use.

Make changes in a controlled order

  1. Check the game’s detected settings. Start with the game’s automatic quality selection, then open its graphics options and adjust them manually.
  2. Select an available upscaler. Try one of the supported options listed by GSC, if it is offered for your hardware.
  3. Lower resolution or render scale if needed. Use the handheld guide’s resolution suggestion as a first trial, or reduce resolution scale below 100% while watching for image softness.
  4. Reduce demanding details. Lower Shadows, Global Illumination, or Reflections Quality; consider Object Quality and Environment Draw Distance if you still need to reduce load.
  5. Compare under the same conditions. Keep power mode, plugged-in or battery state, game area, and other settings consistent while deciding whether a change helps. Prefer the clearest image that remains acceptably smooth for you.

Patch version can change the experience

In its December 10, 2025 Patch 1.7.1 notes, GSC said it fixed “a massive performance drop on opening PDA while the Shadows option is set to Epic.” The patch also corrected settings values displaying incorrectly after auto-detect or reset. If the PDA causes a sudden slowdown, check that the game is updated and review the Shadows setting rather than assuming the handheld cannot run the game.

Patch history matters when applying any guide: recommendations written for an earlier build may not reflect later fixes. GSC also published an Update 2.0 announcement, but the announcement details available here do not support more specific claims about its technical changes.

ROG Ally and Legion Go results are not interchangeable

“ROG Ally” covers at least two processor variants: ASUS lists Ryzen Z1 and Z1 Extreme versions. Its product page also identifies 16 GB memory, 512 GB storage, and a Full HD 120 Hz display, while cautioning that performance varies by configuration and as newer drivers arrive. These are manufacturer device specifications, not S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 performance results. See ASUS’s ROG Ally product page for the listed details.

The available evidence does not establish a like-for-like Ally-versus-Legion Go comparison. A meaningful comparison would need to identify each exact device variant and hold constant the game build, operating system, drivers, firmware, resolution, upscaler, graphics settings, and power conditions. Without that, neither handheld can be ranked from these recommendations.
