Can your PC run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl? The current official guide maps four hardware tiers to targets from 1080p at 30 FPS through 2160p at 60+ FPS. For the clearest starting point, GSC’s High (Recommended) tier targets 1440p at 60 FPS and calls for 32 GB of dual-channel DDR4 plus a Radeon RX 6800 XT, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, or GeForce RTX 4070. These are official target configurations, not guarantees for every scene or PC. Independent GPU figures below are from launch-era tests in November 2024, not measurements of the current game build.

Official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 PC requirements by resolution and target

GSC’s support guide, updated August 3, 2026, presents these specifications as configurations for different desired experiences. All four tiers list Windows 10/11 and a 160 GB SSD. The guide says its Low-tier evaluation used TSR and comparable technologies; for High, it lists TSR, DLSS, FSR, and XeSS as test technologies. The targets should not be read as native-resolution results or a promise that every listed component will produce the same frame rate in every situation.

Tier Resolution and target CPU Memory GPU examples Storage
Low 1080p, 30 FPS AMD Ryzen 5 1600X or Intel Core i7-7700K 16 GB DDR4, dual channel AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB, or Intel Arc A750 160 GB SSD
Medium 1080p, 60 FPS AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-9700K 16 GB DDR4, dual channel; 32 GB recommended for extra headroom AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, or GeForce RTX 4060 160 GB SSD
High (Recommended) 1440p, 60 FPS AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-9700K 32 GB DDR4, dual channel AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, or GeForce RTX 4070 160 GB SSD
Epic 2160p, 60+ FPS AMD Ryzen 7 7700X or Intel Core i7-13700KF 32 GB AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 160 GB SSD

What GPU do you need for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2?

Start with the resolution and preset you actually intend to use, then compare your whole PC with the corresponding official tier. For a 1440p, 60-FPS target at High, the guide names the RX 6800 XT, RTX 3070 Ti, and RTX 4070, alongside a matching CPU and 32 GB dual-channel memory. For 2160p and 60+ FPS at Epic, it names the RX 7900 XTX or RTX 4080 and a Ryzen 7 7700X or Core i7-13700KF.

Those model lists are practical reference points, not a complete ranking of every GPU or a guarantee for a particular combination of settings. Upscaling, frame generation, driver versions, game build, CPU limits, and scene complexity all affect comparisons. A model name alone cannot answer how a different PC will perform.

VRAM can constrain higher presets

GSC’s optimization guidance says higher texture quality needs more VRAM and recommends lowering texture quality if available VRAM is running low. In TechSpot’s launch-era testing, VRAM use at 1440p High regularly exceeded 8 GB and sometimes rose above 9 GB. That observation describes TechSpot’s tested build and conditions; it is not a measurement or guarantee for the current build. The 8 GB and 16 GB RTX 4060 Ti variants also behaved differently in that test: TechSpot reported that the 16 GB model could make 1440p Epic with upscaling feasible, while the 8 GB version struggled and required moving to High.

How many FPS will you get?

The official tiers give target configurations, while third-party benchmark results describe only the specific builds, hardware, routes, and settings used in those tests. TechSpot said it tested 31 GPUs at three resolutions and three quality presets, following the day-one patch. In that launch-era test, it reported about 44 FPS for the Radeon RX 6600 at 1080p Medium without upscaling. Treat that as a result from TechSpot’s 2024 test, not a prediction for a current patch or your system.

Tom’s Hardware’s launch-era testing used a manual run through Zalissya, a village with NPCs, buildings, and trees. The publication ran each GPU at each setting at least twice, using the higher score; its first result for each preset involved three runs with the first discarded. In its 1080p Medium tests, high-end GPUs clustered around 100–105 FPS, which Tom’s Hardware attributed to CPU bottlenecks in that test setup. That range belongs to its route, hardware, settings, and November 2024 game build, not a general cap or current-build benchmark.

Both sets of results are useful context, but neither establishes a current October 2026 GPU ranking. The two publications used different test methods, and results can shift when the game build, driver, route, upscaling, or frame-generation settings change. Tom’s Hardware also notes that rendering distance and level of detail can affect CPU load, so a test conducted at unusually low visual settings may not represent performance in a visually demanding game.

What to do if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 runs poorly

GSC’s optimization article, dated September 1, 2026, recommends checking the system requirements, updating graphics drivers and Windows, and adjusting settings. It does not attach a specific FPS gain to any individual change, so treat these as troubleshooting steps rather than quantified fixes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check the baseline: compare your CPU, GPU, memory, operating system, and SSD with the official tier closest to your target. See GSC’s requirements guide.
  2. Update software: install current graphics drivers and Windows updates, following GSC’s optimization guidance.
  3. Reduce settings that may be costly: test a lower texture quality if VRAM is tight; shadows may reduce performance, and GSC suggests changing anti-aliasing and effects to see whether performance improves.
  4. Check system configuration: close unnecessary background processes, try Windows Game Mode, review the power plan, and confirm that the monitor is plugged into the dedicated graphics card rather than a motherboard display output.
  5. Change one setting at a time: record FPS and frame-time behavior before and after each adjustment. This makes it easier to identify a useful change without confusing its effect with several simultaneous tweaks.

How to use these requirements for a buying or upgrade decision

Choose a target tier first; then compare the CPU, GPU, memory, and storage together. If you are aiming for 1440p High, the official GPU examples are relevant, but the listed 32 GB dual-channel memory and CPU class are part of that target too. If your current PC is close to a tier, settings such as texture quality, shadows, anti-aliasing, effects, and upscaling may change the experience, but the available evidence does not establish exact current-build FPS for every near-match.

For any purchase decision based on a specific FPS goal, look for a reproducible test on the same current game build and driver, with similar CPU, memory, resolution, preset, upscaling, and frame-generation settings. A launch-era chart can help explain hardware behavior, but it should not be treated as a current performance guarantee.
