Sacred 2 Remaster is easiest to recommend to players who want to revisit Ancaria and are comfortable with an older action RPG. It brings the 2008 game back to current platforms with visual, interface and control updates, but reviews suggest it does not fully modernize the underlying combat or usability. The verdict depends on whether preservation matters more to you than contemporary action-RPG polish.

The game sends six heroes through Ancaria, an open world of quests, dungeons, loot, leveling and character customization. The publisher says the remaster includes all expansions and updates, along with refined combat, a modernized interface, controller support, enhanced textures, lighting and view distance, plus community-driven fixes and stability improvements. Those are publisher descriptions, not independent confirmation that every system or performance target works equally well on every platform. See the official game site for the feature list.
What do reviews say?
Critics: improvements, but a dated foundation
In the PC critic snapshot retrieved October 8, 2026, Metacritic showed a 54 Metascore from 17 reviews, labeled “Mixed or Average.” The displayed breakdown was one positive review (7%), nine mixed (60%) and five negative (33%). Critics recognize improvements such as better visuals, smoother controls and quality-of-life work, but several argue that old combat, pacing and interface problems remain. This is a dated aggregate snapshot, not a permanent score or a current technical test. See Metacritic’s PC critic reviews.

Individual reviews show the usability trade-offs
In a PS5 review dated November 12, 2025, Richard Seagrave of GameSpew scored the game 5/10. He praised its open world and volume of content, while criticizing controller-based skill selection, clunky menus, explanations that may not help newcomers, and the absence of console multiplayer in his review-era experience. That is one reviewer’s assessment from 2025, not proof that the state has remained unchanged after updates. Read the GameSpew review.
Anthony Mann’s PC review for ZTGD, dated March 3, 2026, also reports menu and control problems in his experience, while noting improved textures and the appeal of the original game. He preferred Sacred 2 Gold in his comparison. Treat that as one reviewer’s dated judgment, rather than a platform-wide benchmark. Read the ZTGD PC review.

Player ratings: different platforms, different scales
Store ratings are another mixed signal, but the platforms use different systems and should not be combined into one poll. On October 8, 2026, Steam displayed 54% positive from 1,340 user reviews. The US PlayStation Store displayed 3.09 out of 5 from 1,171 ratings. Both figures can change over time. Check Steam’s listing and the US PlayStation Store listing for current storefront information.
How much has the remaster changed?
The remaster’s appeal is access to the original game with updates, not a wholesale redesign. The publisher lists included expansions and updates, visual enhancements, interface refinements, controller support and fixes. The mixed critical response indicates that those changes have not persuaded all reviewers that the older combat, menus and pacing now feel contemporary. If you want the same broad open-world RPG experience in a more accessible package, that may be enough; if you want modern action-RPG systems, the remaster may fall short.

- Fight alone or with a friend in a stylish, bloody action battle

Patch history matters when weighing specific complaints. Official Steam notes for Patch 4 describe memory and performance improvements alongside gameplay and UI fixes. Those notes also said that Patch 5’s fifth weapon and combat-art slots had been delayed and were in development at that time. That describes the status reported in those notes, not necessarily the latest version. Check the official update feed before treating an older review or patch note as a statement about the current build. The cited evidence establishes updates, not a comprehensive current compatibility audit, so it does not support a blanket claim that every launch issue has been fixed.
Who is Sacred 2 Remaster for?
It may suit returning fans
- You want to revisit Ancaria, its open world and its substantial quest and loot loop.
- You value access to the classic game and its included expansions more than a redesign of its systems.
- You are willing to tolerate older-feeling menus, combat or pacing if the setting and progression still appeal.
Think carefully if you are new to the game
- You expect clear explanations and immediately intuitive controls; one PS5 reviewer found the game’s explanations and skill selection unfriendly to newcomers.
- You want a fully modern action RPG rather than a preserved older game with updates.
- Multiplayer is essential on console. The cited PS5 review reported no console multiplayer in November 2025; that is review-era evidence, not verification of later changes.
Which version should you consider?
The game is offered digitally on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, but the available review evidence does not establish a definitive best-performing platform. Choose based on where you play and how you prefer to control an action RPG; do not assume the publisher’s controller-support claim means every interaction feels effortless. The PC aggregate and the individual PS5 review are not a direct performance comparison.

If accessibility or language support is important, check the exact regional store listing before buying. The US PlayStation Store says subtitles cover the main story and main characters only and lists basic controller remapping. Those details are specific to that listing and should not be generalized to other regions or platforms. Review the US PlayStation Store details.

For fans who want to return to Sacred 2 and accept an old-school RPG’s rough edges, the remaster offers a current-platform route into Ancaria with the publisher’s stated visual and quality-of-life updates. For newcomers, or anyone expecting menus, combat and controls to feel thoroughly redesigned, the mixed reviews are a reason to be cautious. Check current patch notes and your platform’s live ratings before buying, especially if a specific fix or feature is central to your decision.
