Build your five-knight team around the fight you need to win, not a universal tier list: make sure it can survive, has a clear way to deal damage, and uses control or support to enable that plan. Only then optimize its elemental formation bonus and positions. The official English game listing puts it plainly: “there is no strongest knight but only stronger formation.”
How do I build a team in Saint Seiya: Legend of Justice?
Start by identifying what the encounter demands. A long fight rewards staying power; a protected enemy backline may call for disruption or a way to break through its frontline; a dangerous opening may make control especially valuable; and a boss fight needs a dependable damage plan. These are different problems, so the same five knights will not always be the right answer.

- Choose the win condition. Decide whether the team needs to outlast the enemy, interrupt its plan, reach a protected target, or deal sustained damage to a boss.
- Check survival and damage. Make sure the lineup can stay alive long enough to act and has at least one dependable source of damage. A team built only for damage can fold before it gets to use it; a team built only to absorb hits may not finish the fight.
- Add the missing job. Use control, healing, buffs, debuffs, or another damage source to address the matchup. One knight can cover more than one job, so treat roles as a checklist rather than a one-knight-per-slot rule.
- Look for useful elemental bonuses. Compare the bonus available from your roster with what you would lose by dropping a key role or skill interaction. The largest displayed bonus is not automatically the best team.
- Set positions and test. Put a suitably durable knight in the most exposed slot, protect vulnerable support or damage dealers behind the frontline, and adjust after seeing who is targeted and what causes the team to fail.
Which roles should the team cover?
Role names vary between sources and game localizations, so it helps to separate what a knight does from the label attached to it. The official English Google Play listing names four knight types: Protector, Warrior, Assassin, and Skilled. AppMedia’s Japanese formation guide uses a five-category tactical vocabulary—defense, attack, assist, technique, and speed. Those two sets are not established as direct equivalents.
For team-building, think in terms of jobs:
- Damage: Supplies the damage needed to defeat enemies. A damage dealer may be vulnerable, so consider who can protect it and whether it can act safely.
- Durability: Absorbs pressure or protects allies, helping the rest of the team stay in the fight.
- Disruption or control: Crowd control and stat debuffs can interfere with enemy actions or make a dangerous opponent easier to handle.
- Support or healing: Healing and buffs can keep allies effective; debuffs can also help undermine the opposing team.
These are practical functions, not mandatory separate slots. A knight whose skills contribute both damage and control, for example, can free space for another need. The useful question is whether the five together cover the fight’s essentials, not whether every label appears once.

How do skills and synergies make a formation work?
A synergy exists when one knight makes another more effective or helps the team execute its plan. It does not require a single-element lineup. When evaluating a pairing, ask what one skill enables:
- Does control buy time for an ally to use a setup or damage skill?
- Can a buff strengthen the damage dealer the team relies on?
- Does a debuff make a target more vulnerable or reduce a threat to the frontline?
- Can healing keep a fragile but important ally active?
- Does the timing of an opening action interrupt the opponent’s plan or help your team act first?
The official game listing points to attribute restraint and control skills as strategic factors alongside formation. For advanced players, interactions involving opening actions and acceleration can also matter, but combat-engine explanations may depend on the client version; the Codex analysis notes a change dated June 24, 2026, and marks some explanations as hypotheses. Treat those interactions as things to verify in your own version rather than universal rules.

What is the best team formation for your five knights?
There is no single formation that can be recommended for every roster, mode, region, and client version. The practical answer is the five knights that cover the encounter’s needs while preserving the skills and targeting plan that make them work together. A team that earns a smaller elemental bonus can be better than one that abandons its reliable damage source, protection, or key control skill.
Recent example lineups should be read in their regional context. A Codex article dated March 24, 2026, presents Hades, Ice, Endurance, Burst, and Milo groupings for a five-team CN-server setup, with Fire and Rush added for a seven-team setup. It is one advanced player’s assessment, not a universal ranking; it also warns that characters can arrive at different times in different regions. Use those examples to think about roster coverage, not as a prescription for a global account. The article’s approximate win-rate comparisons do not include enough sample or method detail to treat them as established performance statistics.

What elemental formation bonuses are reported?
AppMedia’s Japanese formation guide, dated August 13, 2025, reports the following attack and HP bonuses for these lineup patterns. These are guide-reported mechanics, not independently established player-performance results. The guide says Light and Dark knights can count flexibly toward elemental formation conditions; check the active formation indicator in your own game version to confirm how your lineup is counted.
| Lineup pattern | Attack bonus | HP bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Three knights of one element | +10% | +10% |
| Three knights of one element and two of another | +15% | +15% |
| Four knights of one element | +15% | +20% |
| Five distinct elements | +20% | +20% |
| Five knights of one element | +25% | +25% |
Use the bonus as a roster-building constraint, not as the objective by itself. If matching an element means removing the knight that keeps your backline alive or enables your damage plan, compare the actual tradeoff in battle before committing.

Who should go in front and back?
A sound starting point is to put durable frontline units where they can take pressure and keep more vulnerable supports or technique-focused knights behind them. AppMedia’s guide describes defense and attack types as generally front-oriented and assist and technique types as generally rear-oriented, while noting exceptions. Skills and matchups can make a different placement better.
AppMedia also reports that position 1 commonly draws the default incoming target. That makes a durable, suitable knight in position 1 a reasonable first experiment, not an unbreakable rule: enemy skills, your own skills, and the matchup can change what formation works. Watch which ally gets hit and whether your damage dealers and supports remain able to do their jobs; move units if the frontline collapses or the backline is exposed too early.

How should you adapt a team across modes and roster sizes?
Keep the role framework, but change the job the team is built to do. A boss lineup may emphasize reliable damage and enough healing or durability to survive a longer fight. Against an enemy opener that overwhelms your team, control or disruption may matter more. When facing a protected backline, consider how your skills can reach or weaken the threats that sustain it. In PvP, opposing skills and timing can make a formation that succeeds in story content unreliable.
If you are assembling several teams, divide the roster by function before chasing matching elements: identify who can anchor a frontline, who supplies damage, and which knights provide useful support or control. The March 2026 CN examples illustrate planning multiple specialized groups, but their availability and suitability depend on region and roster. Revisit placements and team assignments as your available knights or game version change.
