Saints Row 7 Isn’t Confirmed: What the Developer’s Prequel Pitch Means

Chris Stockman was asked to pitch a Saints Row prequel, but no new game has been confirmed. His proposed 1970s setting was an idea, not announced game content.

No Saints Row 7 has been confirmed. In October 2025, original Saints Row design director Chris Stockman said he had been asked to pitch a prequel, but a request for a pitch is not approval or the start of development. By February 2026, Stockman said he believed the franchise was dead and that Embracer had ghosted his offer; that was his account, not an official cancellation announcement.

What was actually teased?

Stockman said in an October 2025 Reddit post, “I’ve been asked to create a pitch for a Saints Row reboot. I can’t say anything more than that but my dreams for this game just became a little more than just dreams.” The post and subsequent reporting describe the idea as a prequel, not a confirmed numbered sequel. Stockman’s post

That distinction matters: being asked to prepare a pitch does not show that the rights-holder approved the proposal, funded it, or began making a game. The cited reporting establishes no greenlight, production announcement, or release date for a new Saints Row.

What would Stockman’s proposed prequel be about?

Stockman described his concept as a period piece set in the 1970s, exploring how the gangs from the original game began: “What I would have done was to take the franchise back to the 70s and do a period piece, a prequel of how the gangs from the first one started.” That is his proposed direction, not announced content for an approved game. Stockman also discussed virtual reality as a speculative possibility, but the reported pitch request was for a traditional game, not a VR title. GamesRadar’s report

What did Stockman say later?

In February 2026, Stockman told GameSpot, “I think the franchise is dead, unfortunately.” He also said Embracer had ghosted him about his offer. These are Stockman’s opinion and account of the exchange; they do not amount to an official announcement that the franchise has been cancelled. The reporting cited here does not include confirmation from Embracer or Plaion that a new game has been approved or that development is underway. GameSpot’s report · VGC’s February 2026 report
