Salty Bet is a live-streaming site where AI-controlled fighting-game characters battle while viewers wager site-only virtual currency on the outcome. Salty Bet says Salty Bucks have no real-world value and that it does not pay out real money.
What happens on Salty Bet?
Matches pair fighting-game characters, and viewers watch the bouts unfold on stream. While a match is being set up, viewers can wager Salty Bucks on which character will win. Salty Bet also describes matchmaking across five tiers, tournaments, exhibition matches and a character compendium.
A 2024 academic paper describes the fighters as community-created characters based on M.U.G.E.N. and examines how viewers respond to unpredictable AI-versus-AI fights. That is the paper’s account, not a current technical audit of the site. Read the 2024 paper.
How do you play?
- Start with the site’s virtual balance. Salty Bet’s undated official explainer says a new account starts with 400 Salty Bucks.
- Choose a side during the betting window. When the competitors’ names appear, betting opens. Select a character and enter your wager before betting closes at the start of the match. You can change your bet while the window is open; the latest bet is the one that counts.
- Watch the match. Once the first round begins, betting is locked and the fighters determine the result.

How do the odds and payouts work?
The displayed odds reflect the amounts wagered on each side, rather than a fixed price set independently of the viewer pools. If your chosen character wins, the payout is proportional to your share of the winning side’s pool. The exact return therefore depends on the pool and the other wagers, as explained by Salty Bet.
Are Salty Bucks real money?
No. Salty Bet says Salty Bucks are only for use on its service, are not actual currency and have no value. It also states that the site is for entertainment and that no real money will be paid out. They should not be treated as cash, withdrawable winnings or a real-money betting balance. Salty Bet’s official explanation makes this distinction explicitly.

What else does the site offer?
Alongside regular matchmaking, Salty Bet describes tournaments and exhibition matches. Its compendium provides roster and character information. The official explainer says some features, including compendium access and exhibition requests, require Salty Gold. Salty Gold is a paid membership offered by Salty Bet; its current perks and prices are listed on the membership page and may change.
