The clearest change is in its component businesses: Memory is prioritizing high-bandwidth memory (HBM4), server DDR5, enterprise SSDs, SOCAMM2, GDDR7 and AI-oriented NAND, while Foundry is ramping 2nm and 4nm production and combining logic, memory and advanced packaging. Smartphone demand is more seasonal and competitive, and display growth is concentrating in premium OLED categories rather than broad unit growth.
Samsung Electronics has not disclosed a single company-wide percentage showing how much capacity moved from one product to another. The shift is therefore best understood through disclosed product priorities, process ramps, segment results and management guidance.

What Samsung is changing
Samsung’s businesses are responding to two very different demand curves. AI data centers require large quantities of specialized memory, advanced processors, networking components and high-capacity storage. Smartphone demand, by contrast, is seasonal, replacement-driven and exposed to intense competition. Samsung is directing more investment, engineering attention and production capability toward the first opportunity while managing the second more selectively.

What the financial results show
Samsung Electronics reported KRW 93.8 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 20.1 trillion in operating profit for the fourth quarter of 2025. Full-year 2025 revenue was KRW 333.6 trillion, with KRW 43.6 trillion in operating profit. DS sales increased 33% quarter on quarter in Q4 2025, reflecting stronger semiconductor demand and a richer mix of AI-related products.
Those results do not mean every semiconductor line is equally profitable. New-node ramps, qualification work and advanced packaging can carry provisional costs before utilization improves. Demand growth can therefore occur at the same time as uneven margins across products and quarters.
Why AI memory is at the center of the shift
AI accelerators process many calculations in parallel and need memory that can move data at very high bandwidth. That makes advanced memory more valuable per package than many conventional commodity products. Samsung said its Memory business achieved record quarterly revenue and operating profit in Q4 2025 as HBM and other high-value products expanded.

For 2026, management is emphasizing timely HBM4 shipments and broader sales of AI-related products. In its FY2025 results statement dated January 29, 2026, Samsung said: “The Memory Business will continue to maintain close partnerships with customers based on product competitiveness and aims to address customer demand through the timely shipment of competitive HBM4 and the expansion of sales of AI-related products such as DDR5, SOCAMM2 and GDDR7.”
Memory products Samsung is prioritizing
| Product | Role in AI or computing systems | Why it matters to the shift |
|---|---|---|
| HBM4 | Very-high-bandwidth stacked memory used alongside advanced AI processors | Higher value density and close qualification requirements make it a strategic growth product; Samsung is targeting competitive, timely shipments in 2026. |
| Server DDR5 | Main system memory for data-center servers | AI clusters need large amounts of conventional server memory in addition to HBM, creating a broader demand pool. |
| Enterprise SSDs | High-capacity, high-endurance storage for servers | AI training and inference generate large data sets, increasing demand for data-center storage. |
| SOCAMM2 | Specialized memory module technology for advanced computing platforms | Expands Samsung’s AI-oriented module portfolio beyond standard server DIMMs. |
| GDDR7 | High-speed graphics memory for GPUs and other graphics processors | Relevant to AI accelerators and gaming hardware, where bandwidth can limit performance. |
| AI-related NAND | Flash storage products tuned for AI-system workloads | Supports the storage layer of large-scale AI infrastructure rather than only consumer devices. |
The important distinction is between product mix and total bit production. Samsung can sell more high-value memory without every older product line disappearing. Capacity decisions depend on customer qualifications, packaging availability, expected pricing and the economics of each generation.
How Foundry production is moving to advanced nodes
Samsung Foundry is pairing the memory push with a process-technology push. The company began mass production of first-generation 2nm products and shipped 4nm HBM base dies. It plans second-generation 2nm and optimized 4nm production as those technologies mature.
| Process or activity | Reported status | Practical significance |
|---|---|---|
| First-generation 2nm | Mass production started | Moves Samsung into a newer logic-generation race for demanding processors, including potential AI and mobile designs. |
| 4nm HBM base dies | Shipments started | Shows the connection between advanced logic manufacturing and HBM stacks; the base die is the control layer beneath stacked memory. |
| Second-generation 2nm | Planned | Aims to improve performance, power efficiency or density after the first process generation gains experience. |
| Optimized 4nm | Planned | Extends a mature node for products that need a balance of yield, performance and cost. |
Samsung’s stated Foundry objective is “double-digit revenue growth and improvement in profitability, driven by advanced nodes.” That wording is a target, not a guaranteed result. Advanced-node economics depend on yield, customer design wins, package integration and factory utilization.
Why integration matters
AI systems increasingly combine logic dies, HBM, interposers and advanced packages. A supplier that can coordinate the processor, memory interface, base dies and package may reduce integration friction for customers. Samsung is therefore presenting Foundry, Memory and advanced packaging as connected capabilities rather than isolated businesses.

Is smartphone demand falling?
Samsung’s smartphone business is not described as collapsing, but demand is softer and more seasonal than the current AI infrastructure cycle. Device eXperience revenue declined sequentially as launch effects faded and competition intensified. Samsung Display Corporation also expects soft smartphone demand in early 2026.
A quarter-to-quarter decline can reflect normal product-cycle timing: flagship launches often lift one period, followed by a quieter interval before the next major release. It can also reflect consumer caution, longer replacement cycles, regional economic conditions and aggressive pricing from competitors. These factors make smartphone production planning less predictable than a large, contracted data-center program.
What softer phone demand means for production
- Factories and suppliers must manage more pronounced launch-season peaks and post-launch slowdowns.
- Component orders can be adjusted more quickly when channel inventories rise.
- Premium models may receive priority because they generate more value per unit than low-end devices.
- Samsung can redirect engineering and capital toward semiconductors without exiting the smartphone market.
There is no disclosed Samsung-wide figure showing that a specific percentage of smartphone capacity was transferred to AI products. Any claim of a precise reallocation would go beyond the company’s published information.

The display market is polarizing. Total smartphone-panel shipments are forecast to decline, while OLED takes a larger share and premium categories support revenue. Omdia forecasts, as reported in Samsung Electronics’ 1Q26 Interim Report in 2026, provide the clearest numerical picture.
| Measure | 2025 forecast | 2026 forecast | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total smartphone-panel units | 1.61 billion | 1.48 billion | Lower unit volume |
| Smartphone OLED-panel units | 0.82 billion | 0.78 billion | Lower OLED units |
| OLED share of smartphone panels | 51.0% | 52.7% | Higher mix |
| Samsung estimated smartphone-panel revenue share | 43.3% for 2025 | 47.3% in Q1 2026 | Quarterly share was higher than the 2025 annual estimate |
These are Omdia forecasts and Samsung-reported market-share estimates, not Samsung production totals. They show why a panel business can face fewer units while still improving its mix: OLED penetration rises, and premium customers tend to pay more for advanced specifications.
Premium mobile and gaming-monitor demand
SDC is targeting premium mobile demand with low-power OLED products and more varied form factors. It also reports robust OLED gaming-monitor demand. Gaming displays are a useful example of the strategy: a smaller premium market can offset weaker mass-market volume when panel specifications and selling prices are higher.
SDC reported KRW 6.7 trillion in revenue and KRW 0.4 trillion in operating profit for Q1 2026. It reported KRW 7.5 trillion in revenue and KRW 0.7 trillion in operating profit for Q2 2026. These quarterly figures should be read as period-specific results; display demand and customer orders can change rapidly.
What the shift means for gaming hardware
For players and PC builders, Samsung’s semiconductor priorities can affect several parts of the hardware stack.

Graphics memory and AI acceleration
GDDR7 is relevant to graphics cards and other high-throughput processors, while HBM is primarily associated with specialized accelerators and data-center designs. More investment in these products can improve supply, capacity and technology over time, but it does not guarantee lower retail prices or immediate availability in consumer graphics cards. Product qualification, packaging capacity and customer launch schedules still determine what reaches a particular market.
Consoles and gaming processors
Advanced 2nm and optimized 4nm processes matter because game consoles and other compact devices need performance within strict power and thermal limits. A node transition can improve efficiency or enable more logic in a similar area, but early production may be constrained by yield and capacity. A new process therefore tends to appear first in selected designs rather than instantly replacing every older chip.
SSDs and game-install sizes
Enterprise SSD demand is directly tied to AI data centers, not consumer game drives. However, investment in NAND technology and manufacturing scale can influence the broader flash market. Consumer SSD prices remain dependent on total industry supply, inventory and PC demand, so AI growth alone does not establish a predictable gaming-SSD price trend.
OLED gaming monitors
SDC’s reported strength in OLED gaming monitors supports continued development of premium panels, including low-power designs and different form factors. Buyers should still compare refresh rate, response behavior, brightness, burn-in coverage, warranty terms and connection standards for the specific model; an industry-level demand trend does not guarantee identical specifications across products.
How to read Samsung’s next earnings updates
Because Samsung has not published a single reallocation percentage, the most useful indicators are operational:
- Memory mix: Look for HBM4 shipment progress and the share of sales coming from DDR5, enterprise SSDs, SOCAMM2, GDDR7 and other AI-related products.
- Foundry utilization: Check whether 2nm and 4nm ramps are improving revenue and profitability or still carrying significant start-up costs.
- Packaging capacity: Follow comments about advanced packaging and the ability to combine logic, memory and base dies at customer scale.
- Mobile seasonality: Separate launch-quarter gains from underlying smartphone demand, especially when Device eXperience revenue changes sequentially.
- Display mix: Track OLED units, premium mobile panels and gaming-monitor demand rather than relying only on total panel shipments.
Management guidance and market forecasts are volatile. New earnings releases can change the outlook for HBM timing, smartphone orders, panel volumes and node profitability, so quarterly statements should be treated as the current snapshot.

Mix does not remove cyclicality
Higher-value products can improve revenue and margins, yet memory and display markets remain cyclical. Pricing, inventory and utilization can change faster than installed production capacity.
Consumer-market uncertainty
Smartphones and displays remain sensitive to seasonality, regional demand and competition. Premium OLED growth can coexist with declining total panel units, as the Omdia forecasts illustrate.
Bottom line for readers
Samsung is prioritizing the parts of its portfolio that benefit most from AI infrastructure: HBM4 and related memory, server storage and modules, GDDR7, and advanced Foundry nodes such as 2nm and 4nm. Smartphones are still important, but their more seasonal and competitive demand is receiving a different production response. Display strategy is likewise becoming more selective, favoring premium OLED mobile products and OLED gaming monitors even as total smartphone-panel units are forecast to fall.
