Sanza is the cartographer who gives you the Mapping the Living Lands quest in Avowed. To find him after recovering notes, go to Sanza’s Emporium in High Market square, in Paradis Hightown. If you are following the Dawnshore lead, look for Geirmund’s notes on the region’s eastern side near a cavern, then bring them back to Sanza.
Where to find Sanza
Sanza is at Sanza’s Emporium in High Market square, Paradis Hightown. This is the place to report back after finding a cartographer’s notes; a quest may direct you to return without showing a location marker. PC Gamer’s Sanza location guide, published February 18, 2025, identifies the shop in Hightown’s High Market.
What Mapping the Living Lands asks you to do
Sanza wants to make a proper map of the Living Lands. He sent assistant cartographers to investigate different regions, and the quest asks you to find their discoveries and return the missing notes to him. The Dawnshore portion concerns Geirmund, whose journal clue points to the eastern side of the region near a cavern.
Return Geirmund’s Dawnshore notes
- Use the quest journal’s Dawnshore clue to search the eastern side of the region, near a cavern.
- Find Geirmund’s cartographer notes.
- Return to Sanza at his Emporium in High Market square, Paradis Hightown, and hand in the notes.
The in-game quest record spells the name Geirmund. PC Gamer’s guide uses Giermund; if you are matching the journal text, use the in-game spelling.

Should you talk to Sanza beyond the quest details?
Continuing the conversation is optional if you only want the quest information. In the Official Xbox Podcast’s Avowed deep dive, Obsidian narrative director Kate Dollarhyde explained that players can take the quest details and leave, or keep talking to Sanza to learn more about who he is. That establishes optional conversation context, but does not by itself provide a specific biography or motive.
Sanza is also a returning character from Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, according to the community-maintained Pillars of Eternity Wiki character record. That is prior-game context; his role in Avowed is as a cartographer and quest-giver.
