To unlock Computers in Satisfactory, reach Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing. The standard automated recipe runs in a Manufacturer and consumes 4 Circuit Boards, 8 Cable, and 16 Plastic to produce 1 Computer every 24 seconds, or 2.5 Computers per minute. You can also unlock Caterium Computer and Crystal Computer as Hard Drive alternatives after completing their MAM prerequisites.

What unlocks the Computer recipe?
Computer becomes available when you complete Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing. That tier unlocks the normal Computer recipe and the Manufacturer building needed to automate it. Until then, the Computer entry may be visible in the item database without being available for factory production.

The Computer item page also lists a Crafting Bench option for manual production. Manual crafting is useful when you need a small number of Computers immediately, but a Manufacturer is the production building for a repeatable factory line.

Standard Computer recipe
The default recipe is the most direct way to start manufacturing Computers. It uses three intermediate products, so your Computer line must receive all three inputs at the same time. If one input stops, the Manufacturer cannot complete the craft even when the other two materials are available.

Materials required for one Computer
- 4 Circuit Boards
- 8 Cable
- 16 Plastic
Those quantities are consumed every 24 seconds while the Manufacturer is completing cycles. At a continuously running rate of 2.5 Computers per minute, one Manufacturer therefore needs approximately 10 Circuit Boards, 20 Cable, and 40 Plastic per minute. These per-minute input figures are direct calculations from the published recipe quantities and cycle time; they are useful for checking whether your upstream lines can keep the machine supplied.
How to automate Computers step by step
- Complete Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing. This is the progression requirement for the Computer recipe and the Manufacturer.
- Place a Manufacturer. Select the Manufacturer in the building menu and connect it to your factory’s power network.
- Route Circuit Boards, Cable, and Plastic to the inputs. The standard recipe has a separate input requirement for each material. A missing material will pause production.
- Select Computer in the Manufacturer. Choose the standard Computer recipe rather than an alternate recipe unless you have deliberately unlocked and planned around one.
- Check the output. The machine produces one Computer every 24 seconds when all required inputs are present, equivalent to 2.5 per minute.
- Match downstream demand. If later machines consume Computers faster than 2.5 per minute, add additional Manufacturers or use an alternate recipe with a different rate.
Planning input supply
Use the standard machine’s calculated consumption as a target for the lines feeding it. A single continuously operating Manufacturer needs 10 Circuit Boards per minute, 20 Cable per minute, and 40 Plastic per minute. If you build two identical Manufacturers, double each target to 20 Circuit Boards, 40 Cable, and 80 Plastic per minute.

For that reason, a line that delivers enough total material but intermittently starves one input can produce less than the headline rate. Monitor each input independently rather than judging the factory by the output belt alone.
Manual crafting at a Crafting Bench
The Computer entry lists a Crafting Bench method in addition to automated production. This is the practical option when you have already gathered the required materials and need a few Computers before your factory is finished. It does not replace the Manufacturer for sustained output: a bench requires your direct attention, while a Manufacturer can repeat the recipe as long as it remains supplied and powered.

For a temporary need, manual crafting can bridge the gap between unlocking Tier 6 and building a stable production line. For research chains and later components that require a continuing supply, automate the recipe so your personal inventory is not the production bottleneck.
Alternate Computer recipes
Two alternate recipes can change both the materials and the building used for Computer production. Neither is automatically superior in every factory. Their value depends on which resource chains you can supply reliably and whether changing the production building fits your layout.
Caterium Computer
Caterium Computer keeps Computer production in a Manufacturer but replaces Cable and Plastic with Quickwire and Rubber. It produces one Computer every 16 seconds, faster than the standard cycle.

At full continuous operation, one Caterium Computer Manufacturer consumes approximately 15 Circuit Boards, 52.5 Quickwire, and 22.5 Rubber per minute. Those figures are calculated from the recipe’s 16-second cycle and are not separate recipe values.

Crystal Computer
Crystal Computer changes the production building as well as the input chain. It runs in an Assembler, consumes Crystal Oscillators instead of a large Cable, Plastic, or Quickwire package, and produces two Computers per cycle.

For planning purposes, one continuously operating Crystal Computer Assembler uses approximately 5 Circuit Boards and 1.667 Crystal Oscillators per minute and produces about 3.333 Computers per minute. The fractional rates result from converting a 36-second cycle into a one-minute rate.

- Reach Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing. Both alternate Computer recipes require the same tier as the standard recipe.
- Complete the relevant MAM research. Caterium Computer requires MAM Caterium Research – Caterium Ingots. Crystal Computer requires MAM Quartz Research – Quartz Crystals.
- Obtain a Hard Drive. Alternate recipes are awarded through Hard Drive scans rather than being selected directly from the Tier 6 milestone.
- Scan the Hard Drive after the prerequisite is available. The alternate can appear only when its listed research and building requirements are satisfied.
- Accept the recipe when it is offered. If the desired Computer variant does not appear, continue with eligible Hard Drive scans; the recipe offer is not the same as the standard Tier 6 unlock.
The important distinction is that Tier 6 makes Computer production possible, while the MAM research and a qualifying Hard Drive scan are needed for the Caterium Computer or Crystal Computer variant.

Which Computer recipe should you use?
Choose the standard recipe when simplicity matters
The standard recipe is the right starting point when your factory already has dependable Circuit Board, Cable, and Plastic production. It requires no Hard Drive result or additional MAM branch beyond Tier 6, and it keeps the production building in a Manufacturer. That makes it the lowest-friction option for getting the first automated Computer line running.

Choose Caterium Computer when Quickwire and Rubber are stronger inputs
Caterium Computer has the highest stated output rate: 3.75 Computers per minute per Manufacturer. It is attractive if your Quickwire and Rubber supply can meet the recipe’s demand without destabilizing other production. The prerequisite MAM Caterium Research – Caterium Ingots must be complete before the Hard Drive scan can unlock it.
Choose Crystal Computer when Crystal Oscillators fit your factory
Crystal Computer produces about 3.333 Computers per minute, slightly below Caterium Computer’s 3.75 but above the standard recipe’s 2.5. Its defining trade-off is the input chain and building: it needs Crystal Oscillators and runs in an Assembler, not a Manufacturer. This can be a good fit when Crystal Oscillator production is already established and Cable, Plastic, Quickwire, or Rubber are the constrained resources.
Compare supply reliability, not just the headline rate
The recipe with the largest number on the output column is not automatically the best choice. A faster recipe that frequently waits for an input can deliver fewer Computers in practice than a slower recipe with a steady supply. Compare the complete chain:
- Which input materials are already produced near the Computer site?
- Can the upstream lines continuously meet the calculated per-minute demand?
- Does the recipe require a new building type or a layout change?
- Will diverting Quickwire, Rubber, Crystal Oscillators, Cable, or Plastic hurt another production chain?
- Do you need the recipe immediately, or can you wait for the appropriate MAM research and Hard Drive result?
The available data does not establish a universal winner. The best choice is the recipe whose complete input chain your factory can sustain.

What Computers are used for
Computer is a mid-game component with several research and manufacturing roles. It is used in the Caterium, Alien Technology, Sulfur, and Quartz MAM research chains. It is also an ingredient for:
- Adaptive Control Unit
- Path Signal
- Programmable Splitter
- Radar Tower
Those uses explain why a small manual batch may be enough for an immediate unlock, while a long-term factory usually benefits from automated production. Plan the Computer line around the next item or research branch that will consume it rather than producing an arbitrary excess.

The Computer recipe is still locked
- Verify that Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing is complete, not merely visible in the tier list.
- Check that you are looking at the standard recipe rather than expecting an alternate to appear automatically.
- For Caterium Computer, confirm MAM Caterium Research – Caterium Ingots is complete.
- For Crystal Computer, confirm MAM Quartz Research – Quartz Crystals is complete.
The alternate recipe does not appear
Alternates require a Hard Drive scan after their prerequisites are available. Completing the MAM research does not itself grant the Computer variant. If the scan offers another eligible result, the alternate has not yet been selected; continue scanning eligible Hard Drives when available.
The Manufacturer is not producing
- Confirm that the selected recipe is Computer and that the machine is powered.
- Check the Circuit Board input independently from Cable and Plastic.
- Make sure the machine receives the full 4 Circuit Boards, 8 Cable, and 16 Plastic required for each standard cycle.
- If using Caterium Computer, check for 14 Quickwire and 6 Rubber per cycle instead.
- If using Crystal Computer, verify that the machine is an Assembler and that it receives 3 Circuit Boards and 1 Crystal Oscillator per cycle.
The factory produces less than the listed rate
The published rates assume uninterrupted cycles. Any shortage in one input reduces the actual rate. Use the calculated demand for the chosen recipe to find the limiting line: 10 Circuit Boards, 20 Cable, and 40 Plastic per minute for one standard Manufacturer; approximately 15 Circuit Boards, 52.5 Quickwire, and 22.5 Rubber per minute for one Caterium Manufacturer; or approximately 5 Circuit Boards and 1.667 Crystal Oscillators per minute for one Crystal Computer Assembler.
Version and patch considerations
Recipe definitions, tier placement, and alternate availability can change in a major game update. The values in this guide are the stated Computer recipes for the researched game version represented here: standard Computer at 4 Circuit Boards, 8 Cable, and 16 Plastic every 24 seconds; Caterium Computer at 4 Circuit Boards, 14 Quickwire, and 6 Rubber every 16 seconds; and Crystal Computer at 3 Circuit Boards plus 1 Crystal Oscillator every 36 seconds for 2 Computers. Recheck the in-game recipe after a major update before redesigning a large factory.
Bottom line
Unlock Tier 6 – Industrial Manufacturing, place a Manufacturer, and feed it 4 Circuit Boards, 8 Cable, and 16 Plastic to make 1 Computer every 24 seconds. Later, a Hard Drive scan can unlock Caterium Computer after Caterium MAM research or Crystal Computer after Quartz MAM research.
