Yes—Satisfactory is out of Early Access. The full 1.0 release arrived on September 10, 2024, and Coffee Stain Group later announced that Update 1.2 became available on June 2, 2026. It is a first-person factory-building game about exploring an alien world, building production lines and automating the movement of resources. “Scary wonderful time sink” is a playful description of that sprawling loop, not a measured claim about how long people play.
When did Satisfactory leave Early Access?
Satisfactory’s full 1.0 release was September 10, 2024. Its Early Access history began earlier: the official support FAQ lists March 19, 2019, for Epic Games Store and June 8, 2020, for Steam. Those are separate storefront launch dates, not the 1.0 date. Satisfactory’s official support FAQ gives the timeline, while Coffee Stain Group’s 1.0 launch announcement confirms the full-release date.
The 1.0 launch announcement described a narrative overhaul and late-game Tier 9 content, including the final Project Assembly phase, portals and Dimensional Depots. At launch, the game was available on PC through Steam and Epic Games Store.
What do you do in Satisfactory?
You play as a Pioneer for FICSIT Inc. on the alien planet MASSAGE-2 (A-B)b, gathering resources and turning them into an expanding industrial operation. The story centers on advancing Project Assembly and sending parts through the Space Elevator, while the finer purpose of the mission remains shrouded in mystery, according to the 1.0 announcement.

- [Games need exclusions and runtimes, not malware]Some customers ask why our retro game drives can trigger Windows Security warnings. Many game files are older DLLs that Windows Defender sometimes flags as threats. They are not viruses or malware—just old or uncommon code causing false positives. We temporarily add them to the exclusion list so they aren't blocked, then re-enable Security to keep your PC protected. Many classic games also need legacy VC++ and DirectX runtimes, which modern Windows doesn't include by default. Installing them ensures compatibility and smooth play. Your safety matters to us—these are safe, standard steps for retro games.
- [Important:Before you buy]your OS will show ~12.7TB due to decimal/binary measurement difference – this is a common practice among international manufacturers, not a capacity labeling error. The Steam store describes Satisfactory as “a first-person open-world factory building game with a dash of exploration and combat.” In practice, the main loop combines planning production, building factories and finding more resources to feed them. Belts and pipes move materials between machines; vehicles and trains can connect distant outposts. Exploration and combat add reasons to leave the factory, while traversal options listed by the store include jetpacks, jump pads and hypertubes. These are official product descriptions, not independent performance or playtime findings. See the Satisfactory Steam store listing.
What is the latest verified update?
Coffee Stain Group’s official news listing says Update 1.2 became available to everyone on June 2, 2026. That establishes the update milestone, but the announcement listing alone does not establish a detailed feature-by-feature account of the update. Can you play Satisfactory solo or with friends?
Both options are supported. Steam lists single-player, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. The official support FAQ says single-player does not require an additional account. To host or join multiplayer, it says an Epic Games account is required; it also describes the use of Epic Online Services for multiplayer and cross-play.
The support FAQ specifically says Steam and Epic players can play together using session IDs or linked Epic accounts. Because that setup information is platform-specific and can change, check the current FAQ before organizing a session. The official support page lists Epic Games Store, Steam and Humble Bundle as storefront options; the details above describe the PC storefronts addressed by its cross-play guidance.

How big was Satisfactory at its 1.0 launch?
Coffee Stain Group reported more than 6 million copies sold during five years of Early Access development in its September 10, 2024 launch announcement. That is a publisher-reported historical figure at 1.0 launch, not a current lifetime-sales total.
