Save Koch is a single-player strategy and simulation game built around a mafia boss trying to uncover a conspiracy inside his organization. Reviews point to an appealing mystery, dark humor and meaningful choices, but also uneven guidance and repetition. Whether it works for you depends on how much you enjoy piecing together a story when the game does not always make the next step clear.

What is Save Koch?

Developed by Wooden Monkeys, Save Koch puts you in the role of mafia boss Jeffrey Koch as he investigates a suspected mole and a wider conspiracy. Steambase’s listing classifies the PC game as strategy, simulation and adventure; GameFAQs and Switch Scores describe the Nintendo Switch edition as strategy and point-and-click. GameFAQs lists Wooden Monkeys as the Switch developer and OverGamez as its publisher.

The release date depends on the edition: the Steam release is listed as April 18, 2019, while the Nintendo Switch release is listed as March 6, 2020. Steambase lists the Steam date; Switch Scores and GameFAQs list the Switch date.

What do Save Koch reviews say?

The review excerpts gathered by GameFAQs and MonsterCritic describe an intriguing setting, funny dialogue, an engaging mystery, narrative choices and some replay value. The recurring reservation is that the experience can be hard to follow: reviewers point to unclear guidance, confusing lore, missions that can feel like trial and error, repetitive play and minor technical issues. These are published reviewers’ assessments, not a claim that every player will encounter the same problems. GameFAQs and MonsterCritic collect the relevant review excerpts.

#1 Best Overall
Koch Media After the Fall Frontrunner Edition (PSVR) (FRMulti in Game)
  • Face off alone or with up to 4 friends in co-op mode
  • Venture into the ruins of a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles covered in ice
  • Fight numerous hordes as well as overpowered bosses

The mystery and choices are the draw

If you enjoy investigating a conspiracy, interpreting character motives and making choices that shape a narrative, the game’s premise and dialogue may carry you through its rougher stretches. Its appeal is more about following the case and its people than receiving a consistently clear, mission-by-mission path.

Unclear direction and repetition are the risks

Players who want explicit objectives or a brisk, straightforward campaign may find the limited guidance frustrating. The reported trial-and-error missions and repeated play can also make progress feel less satisfying, particularly if the mystery’s lore does not hold your attention.

How do the review scores compare?

There is no single definitive score in the available review data. These figures cover different platforms, audiences and sample sizes, so they should be read separately rather than combined.

Source and edition Reported score What it represents
Steambase, Steam 63/100 Summary of 155 Steam player reviews; page marked last updated May 31, 2026. This is a player-review summary, not a critics’ score.
GameFAQs, Switch page 63 critic score; 6.8 user score GameFAQs attributes these figures to Metacritic: 9 critics and 8 user reviews. The page does not date this score snapshot.
MobyGames, mixed platforms 71% average Three critic ratings: Windows 84%, Switch 70% and Switch 60%. The small sample spans platforms.
Switch Scores, Switch 6.84 average Average from 8 reviews; platform-specific.

The differences are unsurprising: Steam player feedback, critic ratings and Switch-focused reviews are not the same pool. Each number is a small or platform-bounded snapshot, not a universal measure of how the game will land with you.

Is Save Koch worth playing?

It is a better fit for players drawn to mafia stories, mystery-solving and consequential narrative choices than for those who prioritize clear directions and consistently varied missions. The reviews suggest that the central premise and dialogue can be engaging, while the way the game guides—or fails to guide—you through its conspiracy is the main point of friction.

Which platforms have a listed release?

The sources consulted list a Steam version released April 18, 2019, and a Nintendo Switch version released March 6, 2020. Switch Scores also shows an Amazon US route for Save Koch for Nintendo Switch; that listing route does not establish current stock, price or whether the available product is a physical copy.
