Scadutree Fragments are the main progression material in ELDEN RING: Shadow of the Erdtree. Find them throughout the Realm of Shadow, rest at a Site of Grace, and spend them in the Shadow Realm Blessing menu to increase your attack power and damage negation. The bonus works only in the Realm of Shadow, not in the Lands Between.
There are 50 documented Scadutree Fragments in total. They are spread across churches, Miquella’s Crosses, statues of Marika, enemy drops, Hippopotamus encounters, and several major exploration areas. If the expansion’s enemies are hitting too hard or taking too little damage, collecting more fragments is usually the most direct solution.

What is a Scadutree Fragment?
A Scadutree Fragment is an expansion-specific progression item found in the Realm of Shadow. It is not a weapon-upgrade material, a normal consumable buff, or a permanent level-up for your character.

The bonus is applied on top of your character’s normal stats and equipment, so it benefits every build, weapon type, spell setup, and playstyle. You can see the adjusted values highlighted in yellow in the Status section of the main menu.
The crucial limitation is geographical: the Scadutree Blessing is active while you are in the Realm of Shadow, but it does not remain active after you return to the Lands Between. Scadutree Fragments therefore make the DLC easier without functioning as an all-purpose upgrade for the base game.
How to use Scadutree Fragments
- Collect at least one Scadutree Fragment in the Realm of Shadow.
- Rest at any Site of Grace.
- Select Shadow Realm Blessing.
- Choose the Scadutree Blessing option and spend the required fragments.
- Check the resulting attack-power and damage-negation increases in the Status menu.
The first blessing levels cost fewer fragments. Later levels require more, and the highest levels require three fragments for an upgrade. You do not need to carry out a separate activation at each location: once a fragment is in your inventory, any Site of Grace can be used to spend it.
Scadutree Blessing is separate from Revered Spirit Ash Blessing. Scadutree Fragments strengthen your Tarnished, while Revered Spirit Ashes improve summoned spirits and your spectral steed. Both blessings can be active at the same time, so collect and spend both materials when you find them.
How many Scadutree Fragments are there?
The complete documented set contains 50 Scadutree Fragments. The regional distribution is:

The largest concentrations are in Scadu Altus, Shadow Keep, and Gravesite Plain. The smaller regions still matter when you are trying to complete every blessing level, so a region-by-region checklist is more reliable than trying to remember individual pickups.

Where to look for Scadutree Fragments
Miquella’s Crosses
Miquella’s Crosses are among the most dependable landmarks in the expansion. A Scadutree Fragment is placed at each documented cross, making every cross worth checking whenever you discover one.
Early examples include the crosses at Three-Path Cross and Main Gate Cross. These sites are also useful navigation markers because they remain visible on the map after discovery. Do not assume that every fragment in the DLC is at a cross, however; crosses are one recurring collection category among several.
Churches and statues of Marika
Churches of Marika and statues of Marika are another recurring placement pattern. The most important early destination is the Church of Consolation in Gravesite Plain, where you can obtain two Scadutree Fragments.
Later examples include the Church of the Crusade and Marika-statue locations in and around Shadow Keep. When you enter a church or find a prominent Marika statue, check the surrounding area before moving on.
Pot-carrying shadows and other special enemies
Some fragments are enemy drops rather than static items. Special shadows carrying pots or similar ritual objects may flee or blend into the environment, and defeating the relevant carrier can reward a fragment.

If a suspected landmark appears to contain no pickup, look for a nearby enemy carrying a distinctive object. The fragment may not appear until that enemy is defeated.

Hippopotamus encounters
Several fragments come from Hippopotamus mini-boss encounters. This includes the Golden Hippopotamus at Shadow Keep as well as Hippopotami encountered in other regions.
These rewards are easy to miss if you are making a checklist only from static map pickups. Keep boss and mini-boss rewards in a separate section of your notes, and mark a Hippopotamus encounter complete only after checking the reward.
The Scadutree Chalice
The Scadutree Chalice, located behind Shadow Keep, is one of the most valuable single destinations for fragment hunters. Five Scadutree Fragments are documented there, making it a high-priority stop once you can reach the area.

You do not need to hunt all 50 fragments before progressing. A few early pickups can make the opening areas and first major encounters considerably more manageable.
- Explore Gravesite Plain first. The expansion expects exploration to be part of your progression, rather than requiring you to repeatedly force difficult fights.
- Visit the Church of Consolation. It contains two early fragments.
- Check the early Miquella’s Crosses. Three-Path Cross and Main Gate Cross are useful early landmarks to inspect.
- Search the Scorched Ruins. Look for the pot-carrying shadow and defeat it for its fragment.
- Activate the blessing at the next Site of Grace. There is no reason to leave unspent fragments in your inventory when you are already near a Grace.
- Continue checking landmarks. Churches, statues of Marika, Miquella’s Crosses, unusual enemy carriers, and Hippopotamus encounters should become part of your normal exploration routine.
This is an efficient power-oriented route, not a complete chronological list of all 50 locations. Exact directions and numbering can vary between location guides, particularly when routes cross region boundaries. For completion, record the region and landmark name rather than relying only on a guide’s number one, number two, or number three sequence.

- Gravesite Plain — 10: prioritize the Church of Consolation, early Miquella’s Crosses, the Scorched Ruins enemy drop, nearby churches, statues, and exploration landmarks.
- Charo’s Hidden Grave — 1: check the region’s landmark and encounter rewards rather than assuming its single fragment is part of a larger cluster.
- Cerulean Coast — 2: inspect its major landmarks and Hippopotamus-related rewards.
- Stone Coffin Fissure — 1: record the fragment separately from the larger surrounding regions.
- Jagged Peak — 1: include encounter rewards when checking this area.
- Scadu Altus — 12: this is the largest regional total, so revisit its crosses, churches, statues, enemy drops, and side paths if your count is short.
- Rauh Base — 1: do not confuse this total with the four fragments in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh.
- Abyssal Woods — 3: check both static landmarks and enemy or encounter rewards.
- Shadow Keep — 11: search the keep, its surrounding areas, the Golden Hippopotamus, Marika-statue locations, and the Scadutree Chalice behind the keep.
- Ancient Ruins of Rauh — 4: treat this as a separate checklist area from Rauh Base.
- Enir-Ilim — 4: search the late-game area thoroughly, including side paths and landmark locations.
Why Scadutree Fragments matter so much
Shadow of the Erdtree has its own progression curve, and the Scadutree Blessing is the system designed to help you keep pace with the expansion’s damage demands. It raises both the damage you deal and the damage you can withstand, making it useful whether your problem is a boss surviving too long or ordinary attacks killing you too quickly.

If you are stuck, collecting fragments is often a better first response than repeatedly attempting the same encounter with no change. Explore another route, activate the fragments you already have, upgrade your weapon or spirit, and return when your character is better prepared.
That does not make every fragment mandatory. The DLC can be approached in different ways, and build quality, weapon upgrades, summons, talismans, defensive choices, and combat decisions still matter. Scadutree Fragments are a strong source of extra power, not a replacement for the rest of the game’s systems.
Version note: do not rely on launch-era percentages
Calibration Update 1.12.2, released on June 24, 2024, changed Scadutree Blessing scaling. Early and mid-level enhancements were increased, later scaling was made more gradual, and the final level was slightly increased.
As a result, older launch guides may quote exact attack or damage-negation percentages that no longer describe the current balance. The reliable, version-independent advice is that the blessing improves attack power and damage negation in the Realm of Shadow. If you are comparing exact numerical breakpoints, check that the figures match your game version and any later calibration changes.
Optional reference for completionists
Because the 50 fragments are distributed among crosses, churches, statues, enemy drops, mini-bosses, and late-game locations, a physical reference can be useful if you want to clear the entire Shadow Realm rather than simply collect enough fragments for progression. The Shadow of the Erdtree guide book from Future Press is a 352-page hardcover reference covering the Shadow Realm’s maps, points of interest, enemies, dungeons, quests, equipment, progression routes, and builds. It is an optional tool for completionists, not a requirement for playing the expansion.
