EQ Studios’ official sources provide a current requirements listing and support routes, plus a developer response to one report of a black screen after submitting scenario answers. They do not establish that common PC troubleshooting steps such as reinstalling, changing compatibility settings, disabling overlays, switching graphics APIs, or updating drivers fix this specific game.
The steps below are ways to check and document the problem, not a list of proven crash cures. A PC that meets the minimum requirements is not guaranteed to run without crashes.

Compare your PC with the current minimum requirements
Check the Scene Investigators Steam listing. It lists Windows 10 64-bit or later, an AMD FX-6100 processor, 8 GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series graphics, and 26 GB of available storage as minimum requirements. Steam notes that requirements may change after updates, so use the current listing rather than relying on an old copy.

If your system is below any listed minimum, include that fact in your report. If it meets them, report that too, without treating it as proof the crash must have another particular cause.

Pin down exactly when the failure happens
Write down what you were doing immediately before the crash or black screen: for example, launching the game, loading a scenario, or submitting answers. Include whether the game closes, stops responding, or remains open with a black screen, and whether the same sequence reliably reproduces the issue.

Check the official news for dated update notes
Review EQ Studios’ official Steam news and patch notes for updates relevant to your installed version. Notes dated April 25, 2024 mention “Small optimization tweaks for lowest settings.” That is a historical note about optimization; it does not say that a general crash problem was fixed.

Use EQ Studios’ stated bug-report route
EQ Studios directs players to the Bug Reports / Technical Help forums or [email protected]. Describe the symptom, when it occurs, and whether you can reproduce it. Include your PC specifications and relevant logs when available rather than reporting only that the game “crashes.”

[username]with your Windows account name when locating the folder. The request is specific to that reported symptom; it does not establish that every kind of crash requires these same files. See the technical-help thread for the developer’s response. -
Include the game and system context in your report
Along with the point of failure, give the GPU, CPU, RAM, and operating system information requested in the developer response. Mention whether your PC is below or meets the currently listed minimums, and describe any steps that consistently trigger the issue. These details help support staff understand the report; they are not themselves a fix.

Use Steam Support if you need account-specific assistance
Steam Support’s Scene Investigators page is another support route. It does not provide a title-specific crash resolution, so use it to reach support rather than as evidence for a particular troubleshooting fix.

Treat generic PC troubleshooting as an experiment, not a confirmed fix
Reinstalling, changing compatibility options, disabling overlays, changing graphics APIs, or updating drivers may be suggested in general PC troubleshooting, but the cited game-specific sources do not verify these as fixes for Scene Investigators.
