Scene Investigators is a single-player PC deduction game in which you inspect reconstructed crime scenes, interpret what you find, and piece together what happened. Released on Steam on October 24, 2023, it is designed around observation and inference rather than a story that simply leads you from clue to clue.
What is Scene Investigators?
Developed and published by EQ Studios, Scene Investigators puts you in the role of a trainee investigator examining fictional, near-future case scenes. You look closely at environmental evidence—including objects, marks, and physical traces—then use those details to build an explanation of events. The challenge is not just spotting clues: it is deciding what they imply and filling gaps in the account.
The Steam description frames the cases as a test of whether you can solve them all. EQ Studios presents the game as a demanding deduction experience for people drawn to detective films, true-crime themes, escape-room puzzles, and challenging case-solving. Its cases are fictional; the game is not professional forensic training.
How does the gameplay work?
The central loop is to examine a scene, notice details that may matter, and connect them into a plausible reconstruction. A physical trace can support an inference, but the player has to determine how it fits with the rest of the evidence. Progress depends on careful observation and reasoning, not merely collecting a sequence of narrative breadcrumbs.

The game is listed as single-player. EQ Studios has suggested discussing evidence with friends or family, so solving together informally is possible, but that is not an in-game multiplayer mode.
How is it different from The Painscreek Killings?
EQ Studios distinguishes its earlier game, The Painscreek Killings, as the more story-rich experience, where clues help advance the narrative. Scene Investigators instead emphasizes observation, deductive reasoning, and working out missing pieces. That distinction is the most useful guide if you are choosing between them: expect more focus on interpreting evidence than following a story-led trail.

The official product listing identifies Scene Investigators as a Steam game for PC. Its minimum requirements currently list:

- Storage: 26 GB available space
