Scott Pilgrim EX is a released action-adventure brawler that sends Scott and a six-character roster through a warped version of Toronto. Its connection to the original game is more than a familiar setting: Tribute Games’ founders worked on the first Scott Pilgrim video game before starting their Montreal studio in 2011.
What is Scott Pilgrim EX?
Scott Pilgrim EX is an action-adventure brawler built around an interconnected take on Toronto. Players fight through the city, take on quests and bosses, and find hidden areas while facing enemies that include demons, robots, and vegan gangs. Tribute Games describes a combat system with combos, weapons, special attacks, and badges or other items for customizing fighters. Tribute Games’ press kit also lists an arcade mode with lives, credits, score chasing, and a more streamlined progression through stages.

Why does the game connect Tribute Games to its roots?
Tribute Games is based in Montreal; Toronto is the setting the game reimagines. The studio’s connection to Scott Pilgrim goes back to the earlier video game: Universal Products & Experiences said that Tribute’s founders worked on that first game before launching the studio in 2011. Game director Jonathan Lavigne called making EX “a full-circle moment” in the company’s June 6, 2025 announcement.
The new game reunites Tribute with series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, who served as a creative consultant and co-writer with the studio’s team. The announcement also credits BenDavid Grabinski as a creative consultant, Anamanaguchi with composing new music, and pixel artist Paul Robertson with contributing character animation. The game draws on O’Malley’s six-volume graphic novel series. Reading the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels is an optional way to explore the source material, not a prerequisite for playing.

Is Scott Pilgrim EX multiplayer?
Yes. The game supports local and online co-op for up to four players. On Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Canada lists local and online play for one to four players. Nintendo Canada’s listing identifies that edition as digital.
Who can you play as?
The original game’s seven playable characters are Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Matthew Patel, Gideon Graves, Lucas Lee, Roxie Richter, and Robot-01. The roster expands with Back in the Band DLC, which adds Stephen Stills, Kim Pine, and Knives Chau. Tribute Games marketing manager Eric Lafontaine announced the add-on on the PlayStation Blog on August 27, 2026; the post says the base game and DLC are available on PlayStation, and Steam lists the DLC as well. Check each storefront for current platform availability.

The listed date depends on the storefront: Steam gives March 2, 2026, while Nintendo Canada lists March 3, 2026 for the digital Switch 2 edition. These are platform-specific store dates, so cite the relevant listing rather than treating them as one universal release date.
