Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe Scroll of Knock is a one-use item that lets any character cast Knock to open a susceptible, non-magical lock. It can bypass a difficult lockpick, but it will not open every locked object—and casting it on someone else’s property can count as a crime.
What does the Scroll of Knock do?
Using the scroll spends an action and consumes it to cast Knock. The item page lists a range of 18 m (60 ft). Knock unlocks an object held shut by a mundane lock; the spell’s description covers non-magical locks, regardless of lockpicking difficulty. BG3 Wiki: Scroll of Knock · BG3 Wiki: Knock
Some locks resist the spell. If a target is marked as resistant, Knock will not solve that lock, so check the target rather than assuming every locked door or container is eligible.
Where can you find a Scroll of Knock?
Mason’s Guild Basement
The item page lists a scroll in the back room of the Mason’s Guild Basement at X: 134, Y: -738. Access requires finding a button revealed by a DC 10 Perception check. BG3 Wiki: Scroll of Knock

Trader inventory
Skittle is listed as a seller, and the scroll overview categorizes the item as sold by one trader. Vendor stock can vary or become unavailable as a playthrough progresses, so check Skittle’s current inventory in your game rather than relying on a guaranteed purchase.
Who can use the scroll?
Scroll casting is not limited to spellcasting classes: a character of any class can cast from a scroll, provided no condition is preventing them from casting spells. BG3 Wiki: Scrolls

If you have a wizard, they can also transcribe a wizard spell from its scroll into their spellbook, consuming the scroll in the process. That offers a reusable learned spell instead of a one-off cast, when the spell and wizard meet the game’s transcription requirements.
When should you use it?
- Use the scroll when you need to bypass a susceptible mundane lock and would rather spend a consumable than rely on your party’s lockpicking resources.
- Save it if the target resists Knock, or if an ordinary lockpick is preferable and you want to keep the scroll for a later lock.
- Consider ownership before casting: using Knock on owned property is considered a crime, and nearby NPCs may investigate or become hostile if they hear it.
Scroll, learned spell, or lockpicking?
| Option | What it requires | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Scroll of Knock | The scroll and a character able to cast spells | One use; it cannot open a lock that resists Knock. |
| Learned Knock spell | A character who has learned Knock and can cast it | Still ineffective against resistant locks; casting on owned property can be a crime. |
| Ordinary lockpicking | Suitable lockpicking resources and a character able to attempt the lock | May be difficult; the sources do not establish a universal success-rate or resource advantage over Knock. |
The scroll is not required to obtain Knock as a spell. Treat it as a convenient, single-use bypass—not a universal key.
