That encounter is also tied to the Mage rune progression for Balefire Bolt. You can obtain a scroll from another player or craft one after learning its formula with Enchanting.
What does Scroll of Spatial Mending do?
It closes a targeted Fel portal. The item’s in-game use text warns: “Close a targeted Fel portal. May draw unwanted attention from the other side.” In practice, closing the portal spawns an enemy that you must be ready to fight; nearby players may also contest the encounter.
Killing the spawned enemy can provide Spell Notes: Balefire Bolt, which supports the associated Mage rune progression. The scroll is therefore a progression item as well as a way to trigger a portal encounter. Wowhead’s item reference and Mage rune guide describe the item and its connection.
How do you get the formula and craft the scroll?
The Formula: Scroll of Spatial Mending teaches the recipe and requires Enchanting skill 120 to use. The formula can be found in Otherworldly Treasure returned by a Warlock’s Explorer Imp, or dropped by Fel Interlopers. The formula and scroll were added in patch 1.15.2 on April 2, 2024, according to the item reference.

Should you buy a scroll or make one?
Buying a scroll from another player or the Auction House avoids needing the formula and Enchanting 120. Crafting may suit you if you already have the required skill and can obtain the formula and reagents. Which route is cheaper or faster depends on your server’s current availability and prices; reliable current price data is not established.
